  1. 1. What do you think of the advert? (Public Poll, people can see how you voted)

    • Loved It. More of the same please!
    • Mainly Positively. Fine for promoting us in India, but rather cringe-worthy over here
    • Don't care on way or the other
    • Mainly Negative. Regardless of what it does in India, I hate what it represents here!
    • Sheer and utter embarrassed. Everyone involved should be ashamed

Fair enough

It was the use of the word 'offensive' that seemed OTT, as someone who couldnt care less about religion I don't particularly like or get why they did the cross (apart from the market it may eventually be aimed at) but I don't find it offensive. My issue with the wording 'offensive' is that with everything that is going on with the owners at the moment is that its OTT when simply in other circumstances your latter explanation would possibly be what you would be more inclined to say first time round. Im no fan of the owners but the shiteness of the ad made me laugh and its exposed Rovers to a new market which is a good thing. I think some Rovers fans possibly need to take a step back before they criticise the owners instantly when they see something they don't like, try giving the benefit of the doubt with things like this. If come September we have sold Phil Jones and signed no one but Miles Anderson and we have been promised brilliant things thats the time to go all out in slagging them off.

I hope that makes sense had some beer :D

I'm deeply religious, I worship myself. And I didn't find it offensive.

Guest Rovers4Good

The advert just goes to show what Venky's really want out of Rovers and that is publicity good or bad. The advert is shocking and the one thing that's going to add fuel to the fire with our rivals. :(

Not good Venky's not good. :(

Also, bet Dunny had a real hissy fit when all his chicken was nicked. :) :)

We all know that we are a publicity vehicle for Venky's. No point moaning about it, we knew that from day 1. Look at the unbelievable amount of PR ths one advert has produced.

Plus the Hong Kong Trophy, plus our ongoing PL status, plus the hourly reports of 'Venky's, the Blackburn Rovers owners are rumoured to be linked in x, y and z'.

Their name is now everywhere, good for them! How the team of BRFC is actually going to improve, well nobody can answer that.

I like the Ad, its meant to be tongue-in-cheek and I think it looks well produced.

You can tell the players had a laugh making it and arent taking it too seriously.

Its good to see BRFC getting much needed publicity. Like someone said, its generating plenty of free PR for Venkys being shown on all these programmes which can only be a good thing for Rovers.

I thought the advert was reasonably polished and I didn't see any more problems for Rovers images than any other club who use advertising to earn revenue.

It will be shown in India and that is a great advert for Blackburn Rovers. Can't see why some people want to make such a fuss.

It has nothing to do with slagging the owners off.

Ok, offensive may of been a harsh word, but as a practicing Catholic, I find a sacred gesture such as the sign of the cross used in an advertisement for selling chicken doesn't sit well with me.

I'm Catholic Nate and don't particularly find it offensive.

I think it is in the advert to symbolise Christianity, which Indians must see as the Western religion.

Surely it is simply a case that the vast majority of players seen on TV are crossing themselves before they come on as subs these days?

I don't think it was intended to have any significance beyond that but it was a nice touch.

That was my understanding of it.

I have watched it 5 times now and I thought it was good the first time I saw it and like it even more now. I think they have done a great job here especially if you think how bad/corny a football team advertising chicken could have turned out.

In my view it does very positive things for both the cooked chicken and the Rovers brands.

Certainly that plate of chicken pieces which becomes visible when the players back off from their huddle looks a million times more appetising than any picture of cooked chicken we see on British TV outside of gourmet cooking programmes (and they cook with more exotic fowl!)

My advice if they are to build on this good start would be to build on the personalities of the Rovers players rather like the Renault ads did with Nicole and her Dad and the Gold Blend couple thinking of incredibly successful ad campaigns of the past.

All successful football brands are a combination of the name, shirt AND the players. This is a great start with Dunn, MGP and Nelsen in particular but the ad campaign should build on this so the consumers are looking forwards to seeing what individual Rovers players did next with their chickens... and I am being absolutely serious.

I bet after that ad campaign runs, the player recognition of MGP as the cheeki chappie guy stealing Dunn's drumstick will be pretty strong.

Building a character-based ad campaign like that could overwhelm the automatic advantage that the Man Us and Chelseas enjoy, particular if Venky's take ad slots during ALL PL games showing in India.

Two further observations- why has it taken them SO LONG to start marketing in India. Just think how Venky's would have won the Rovers fans over if they had done what they had promised back in December and made this advert then? Instead they set about systematically breaking every promise they had ever made to the Premier League, the club, the Walker Trust and the fans.

Secondly, the absence in the ad of players who have been associated with rumours they might be leaving Ewood (Andrews, Samba, Kalinic....)

Phil, pleeaase tell me that post was tongue in cheek. Mgp a 'cheekie chappie' ? Develop their characters like the Renault ads ? Is angel dust the drug of choice in Malta ?

Maybe this puts me in the miserable camp, but this terrible ad is embarassing, fuelling the fires of those mocking our new owners and the state of our club.

Sorry I find it pretty demeaning to Rovers as a whole, that might me being a miserable @#/? or whatever, but you have got to ask yourself the question, would Jack have done such a thing to ridicule the football team both he and we love?

I very much doubt it.

You've obviously had the humour-bypass op just like me. Sign of the times I suppose that people think first about branding and marketing before actually winning football matches. Problem is that half on here have never been to ewood so for them its more important that there is a digital presence that they can associate themselves with. I really don't care if people 5000 miles away chuckle about Dunn-of-the-Rahvers as they tuck into their good-4-u drummers. I care about a decent squad of players being capable of winning matches. I care about pride in my home town and local community.

Now imagine that the marquee (sic) signings had been something more that the effluvia it has turned out to be ... this advert would be just fine with Becks and Ronnie smacking their lips! But that was never ever going to happen - just bluster to soften us up to the idea of being used and abused in any way they see fit. After all its THEIR club isn't it!?

I think the advert is fine and on its own merit personally don't find it demeaning or 'cheesy'

However this point stated is what I totally concur with and annoys me totally and the reason its taking my feelings and enthusiasm away from the game in general(not Rovers).

you're probably one of those muppets who still believe in venkys and steve kean....been in work 30 mins sick of the Rovers jokes already

Indeed I am. because, correct me if I'm wrong, they've not really done that much horrendously wrong yet.....

Jesus Christ mate; I think you need to lighten up and stop taking yourself so seriously. Give 'em some stick back you loser.

I bet you're great to be around. A proper man's man who's up for a laugh no matter what...

If the advert and the jokes bother you that much and you can't see the funny side in it, eff off over to old Trafford. "why should I? I've been here longer than them!"

Or better still; create that daft AFC Blackburn team some simpletons have been going on about. Think you'll fit right in. :tu:

Was dreading going to work this morning! The ridicule, the embarrassment! I've been pointed at, laughed at and had the rise royally taken out of me by 2 plastic Man U fans, a Liverpool fan who couldn't find Anfield with a sat nav, (who's best ever comment to me was "well when you are choosing a football team to support you don't pick one that's crap do you!") a North-ender and a bloke who once played for Clitheroe so thinks he's Pele! So I'm just off home to run the bath and sharpen up the razor blades!

For those of you that don't get it that's my little attempt at sarcasm!

These corny sorts of ads re on Indian telly 24 hours a day and I can vouch for that as my parents watch the bloody stuff constantly. Every Ad they seem to show seems to be more cringeworthy than the next but that's what works over there so why change it. For example a Gorilla playing the drums would probably bomb in India whereas in the UK it was voted the best ad of the year. In my opinion the ad is great for it's purpose and that is appealing to the subcontinent audience. This ad is clearly not for the British Market.
