It was a rough 10%, round about 10% but thanks for the maths lesson :-)

Anyway, we could have found out how much he wanted with one phone call at the start of this.

This surely points to us doing exactly the same on other deals.

:D

But the point being that the roughness in you calculation equates to a 50% difference in wage. The economics of Manchester City probably aren't a great place to start anyway! ;)

I struggle to defend Venkys (or even give them the benefit of the doubt at this stage) but it does seem like the player is being greedy IF he wants £30k. I hare to bang in about him but I expect JW would have come to a compromise (much like the Andrews contracts).

It IS no wonder tapping up goes on though.

Follow the link boys and girls. Nothing to do with us. Tis a hold up wrapping up his contract with DU.

As reported by one media outlet.

But why take what they say over what the BBC says?

Not that I am taking what the BBC says over what the Scotsman says, really, who knows what's going on with this transfer. It's a mess.

Yeah fair point about my calculation. It's not just city though paying that amount, United and Chelsea all have players on/around that figure. Without doubt Goodwillie is not worth £30k a week, but when top players are stretching the top amount earned the rest follow.

If you use Shearer (1993 wages) as an example. Widely known to be earning £10k a week at Rovers, highest paid player at the club and in the country. Goodwillies equivalent wage demands would be £1.5k a week .

Tapping up is a wide ranging practice, it appears another trick Venkys are missing

So is it officially dead, a few minor issues to resolve, or still going ahead? There are so many conflicting reports (as usual). Like I said on another thread, if he's being a fool and demanding big wages tell him he can rot at Ibrox and move on very quickly. We need a proper striker now.

Surely the deal is very much on.

The articles provided speak only of issues to be resolved at the Dundee end, before he comes down to us to agree personal terms.

I can confirm that guy is his agent, the club I work for has signed two of his clients this window. He is an odd character but genuine, he is very open with fans of his clients to the point of going on message boards etc, he is agent of wee Barry Ferguson as it happens

71 targets suggests we don't.

71 linked, come on lets put some perspective into all of this, just because we have asked about what size jock strap he wears doesn't mean we had to buy them. ;)

Most clubs are having the same difficulties, valuations and possible wages miles apart. Probably the reason for most of the more serious linked players not materialising.

I agree the infrastructure has many questions to answer, are they capable of the answers, we'll know soon enough.

71 targets suggests we don't.

As of a couple of weeks ago we only had a real interest in 2 or 3 of the 50 odd linked.

Rovers can't do anything about bad journalism.

I'm all for a bit of perspective (running around screaming like your hair's on fire and we're all gonna die gets exhausting after a while), but from my reading of Andy Cryer's tweet, it was 71 players that we've wanted at one time or another. Genuine enquiries, so more substantive than just tabloid tittle-tattle.

I really wouldn't know about other clubs having problems, but if they are, I doubt they're having the sort of summer we're going through.

Yes, I think we're a club where the command structure should be questioned. Is it just the manager selecting the targets? Or is he only selecting some of the targets and Venky's are pursuing their marquee signings? If so, that is a recipe for disaster. Football should be left to the professionals, and the manager should be left to manage. If they don't have faith in him to build a quality team he should be replaced. The manager picks the targets, the chief exec negotiates. The owner stumps up the cash. Blurring these lines creates an accident waiting to happen.

There's still more questions than answers and we are less than a fortnight away from the season's start with no substantive signings completed.

I am just hoping against hope that things can somehow be turned around and lessons can be learned otherwise it's going to be a very long hard season. Particularly bearing in mind it's easier to sign players in close season.

I can only hope.

Sorry, my apolgies, I've just check Cryer's tweet and it's 71 linked in the mainstream media.

You can't tell me we've only made genuine enquiries about 2 or 3 of them?

They've made up 68 names? Do you really think that's true?

And do you have proof that the player doest have unreasonable demands? No of course you dont. The level of hypocrisy by some users is unbelievable.

Yes, coming from the dizzy heights of Dundee Utd he will be asking for £90k a week. You're right.
