davulsukur Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Its not about his ability. That should have already been determined. Its about his attitude and personaility. What worries me is if Kean doesn't take a liking to him and pulls the plug on that basis. That would really dirty our good name even further in light of all the messing about already. He still won't learn enough about him in a short conversation to determine if he is a bad lad or not. The lad will be out to make a good first impresion. he will only determine his personality over the course of a few weeks working with him.

booth Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 How many times do you realistically think we are going to see him this season should he sign? He probably won't get a game until next season. What with keans hand firmly on Jason Roberts crotch and rochina and formica getting a lot of attention. Got a feeling he's going to see a lot of match time this coming season.
patrickvalery Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Which means that it should have been evaluated before calling him down for a medical, no? A classic case of cart before horse. In any case, the player shouldn't have been kept waiting because Kean was sight-seeing. Without meeting him? Thats like me saying "Hey Bryan, i know this bloke you'll absolutely love him. So much so i've booked you both on a 2 week camping holiday in the lakes. Trust me you'll love him!" Edit On second thoughts it's not really like that at all. Apologies. Yes it should have been handled differntly and Kean should have been in the bloody country but he wasn't and it would be foolhardy not to meet him before he signs.

I rate this guy very highly, and I am confident that many of you will be pleasantly surprised by how good, and under-rated, he is. He will ,IMO, be ahead of JR and any other striker in the pecking order.

SG192 Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Not really too sure how much he would learn from a brief chat. Nor how would Kean know if he is going to be a flop based on a chat. If he is a flop its because Kean hasn't done enough homework on the lad. Correct about the home work. I know for sure I wouldn't take a new job without first meeting my new manager. Or vise-versa if I was employing a new member of my team and I was going to live or die by there performance I would certainly want to look them in the eye before I offered them the job.

There's ways and means to do background checks on players without meeting them for a friendly chat. You do want to meet them, but not at the time he's coming down for his medical, no? Bit late in the day, that. Having said that, we do agree that Kean should've been back at Ewood much earlier. Bloody farce.
LeChuck Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 I think we'll still sign a 'main' striker, leaving Goodwillie and Roberts to battle it out to be second choice. We saw last season that Kean doesn't mind rotating his strikers, it seemed at times like he was pulling the names out of a hat each game, so I think Goodwillie will see plenty of action.
RoyRover Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 I think we'll still sign a 'main' striker, leaving Goodwillie and Roberts to battle it out to be second choice. We'd need to. The idea of Roberts and an unproven player at this level being our two main striking options for next season doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.
Lathund Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 can anyone tell me what goes on at "medical" because carrol was injured when he joined Liverpool and Formica was also not fit when brfc signed him . so basically what they check. disclosure : i am new to all this. There are some injuries you can be sure will heal, and an injury like that won't stop a transfer from going through. Like for instance a single, clean leg break with no muscle, ligament, tendon, nerve or major blood vessel damage, in an otherwise healthy person, will heal and be as good as new. Things like knee/hip (Or any joint really) problems are tricky though, to take one example.
roversfanben Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 His medical looks set to start at about 2.30 now, so don't expect to hear anything on the news until around 6ish.
den Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 I think we'll still sign a 'main' striker, leaving Goodwillie and Roberts to battle it out to be second choice. I was hoping [apparently forlonely] that we would bring in three strikers to take us back to where we were. [Robbo, Kalinic, MBD, RSC,] + I've remembered Benjani - has he signed on yet? So that's 5 strikers we had last season. So I guess our strike force this season will be Roberts, Goodwillie, Benjani + AN other. The AN other had better be a blinder then, looking at that list.

But IMO the starting forwards will be whomever we sign as our main striker plus Goodwillie, with Roberts as back up.
Stuart Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 His medical looks set to start at about 2.30 now, so don't expect to hear anything on the news until around 6ish. Kean had to nip onto Charnock Richard services for a number two?

den Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 I would say add Blackman and maybe Rochina to that list. So may or may not see another striker come in. Blackman clearly isn't up to it, while Rochina isn't a striker. If we don't improve on Roberts, Goodwillie and Benjani up front, I think we're in real danger.

So may or may not see another striker come in. blackman hasnt improved any.. since i saw him play at fleetwood the pre season before this 1. didnt look up to it in asia either. wild shots.. and struggled to control the ball and hold it up. be surprised.. no.. i'd be suicidal.. if he features much in the league.
67splitscreen Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 His medical looks set to start at about 2.30 now, so don't expect to hear anything on the news until around 6ish. Pretty wet on Pendal Hill hence the delay. On the striker issue, one good signing marquee or not but a gaol scorer, still leaves room for a loan striker with prem experience. Caciedo IMO would have been good but a 4m deal to Russia put paid to that one.
arab Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 If he goes to Ibrox, then in many ways it shows a lack of ambition. Sure, they win the SPL many times, but the standards there are so low Danny Cadamateri was top scorer a few seasons ago! As for European football, most Scottish teams struggle to reach the group stages of both cups. If he goes to Rangers, then let him go and move on. There will be players just as good as him. Hmmmm. Not true. Danny Cadamateri warmed the bench for Dundee United for a couple of seasons - prob scored less than 10 goals in this time.

Savage: I don't like what's going on at Blackburn, I don't recognise the club any more.

New striker, Goodwillie, Roberts and Benjani sounds right to me. Like you say though, the main striker has to be a good 'un.

From what Roberts has said, Junior could also play as a striker if in a pinch.

Imagine if this AN other gets injured, or when he doesn't play [because none of them play anywhere near a full season] what we're left with - Goodwillie, Roberts and Benjani!
