Stuart Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Firstly, welcome from The Steve Kean thread Jisty.. No need to get all defensive buddy.. The point I was making was some would far rather get their knickers in a twist about a Kean presser than allow themselves to get even remotely excited about a potential new arrival. I know which of those I'm more interested in at present. Because I try to read all of the posts in each thread, I tend to spend a lot of time in the threads nearer the top of the MB. Hence the likes of Kean, Venkys, Andrews, Goodwillie and the (lack of) Sponsor are the main haunts at the minute. I do have other things I can be doing with my time - as I'm sure you do. I'm actually quietly pleased about the Goodwillie prospect but like the other links so far this Summer, I'm not getting excited until he's formally signed and done the photo shoot - Hell, I might even think of a song! But as for the other three topics, it takes a special kind of person to see the positives at the current time, hence a lot of posts are negative - including plenty of my own - although I do try to balance it out. It just grates when posters start on each other. I could easily name several posters a LOT more negative than I but I'm not going to insult them because of it. There's just no need for it. Buddy.

Teacup Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Wow, Venky's are here to meet the player. Impressed with that. I hope they can understand him, there are bits in this interview that I seriously.. like, what? Haha http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWCTL01wioc
den Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Something I'd noticed too. Some of the miserabilists (you know who you are..) are nowhere to be seen on the threads where it actually looks like we're finally going to get some new arrivals. They're far happier shuffling around the Kean thread indulging in self-flagellation. Seriously tedious... Yeah, Rovers Fans, we're here. Read back, you'll find plenty of comments on here from me. I'll wait for you on your favourite managers thread - you've been conspicuous by your absence. anyway, back to the willie jokes.........
yeti-dog Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Yeah, Rovers Fans, we're here. Read back, you'll find plenty of comments on here from me. I'll wait for you on your favourite managers thread - you've been conspicuous by your absence. anyway, back to the willie jokes......... Alright smiler... It's all fairly positive on this thread at the minute. Feel free to contribute. any updates Ben,or is the Goodwillie transfer ticking along nicely to its conclusion??
thenodrog Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 According to pub talk tonight this transfer is taking on an air of the Roy Keane debacle. Office shut and no one to contact who could fax v Goodwillie at Stanley House with no one of any authority from BRFC to meet him. All the while Gers are reputed to be pressing hard to scupper the deal. http://sport.stv.tv/football/scottish-premier/rangers/264713-rangers-make-last-ditch-bid-for-david-goodwillie/

roverandout Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 realists on the steve kean thread as opposed to people wetting themselves on here over an spl player.
yeti-dog Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Realist?? You're one of the most negative, reactionary posters on this messageboard. You dismiss potential targets at the drop of a hat and brand them 'crap'when you've probably never even seen them play. You also swallow every random twitter feed as if it's gospel. Do me a favour...
tony gale's mic Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Yeah I'm not opposed to this signing and I think we're paying an OK price for him. But unless he becomes some kind of surprise package, this is a player with a less than 1 in 2 scoring record in his only decent SPL season. Players who've struggled down here have managed a lot better up there. Haven't really seen him play much so can't actually directly comment on him, but I'll be very disappointed if this is our main striker signing considering we sold a player for £16m and will likely sell another for £6m.
roverandout Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 i have never dismissed goodwillie, i always said he will be a decent player if he is bought in alongside a proven striker. Yes every player that we have talked about rovers signing hasnt been of the ilk that would change us from being in another relegation battle into a top 10 side. So i have shown my worries. I have always maintained if we bought a good quality striker in, we would be in alot better position. The owners seems to be going for cheap unproven players rather than players who would make us stronger. I dont want another relegation battle this season. By the way i dont follow twitter.
RoverMad86 Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Or you could say he dealt with alot of personal stress and still scored 19 league goals. Plus he is only 22 and his goal scoring record is improving every year. He could be our version of Javier Hernandez.
ben_the_beast Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Sorry in advance for this one, but I was gonna suggest 'he's big, he's hard, he'll shoot from twenty yards Goodwillie, Goodwillie'! So good I thought I would re-post it just in case anyone hasn't looked back that far in the thread.

67splitscreen Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011  I could end up in bed with Jessica Alba tomorrow night. But would you enjoy it.
XLM Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011   I could end up in bed with Jessica Alba tomorrow night. No you couldn't.
tony gale's mic Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 No you couldn't. Congratulations! You've managed to work out half of a very obvious joke.
rebelmswar Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Congratulations! You've managed to work out half of a very obvious joke. Was the rest the "end up?"
XLM Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Congratulations! You've managed to work out half of a very obvious joke. I was pointing out how pointless and unfunny those type of comments are.
tony gale's mic Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 I was pointing out how pointless and unfunny those type of comments are. I was pointing out what a ludicrous comment our friend saying how he "could end up the next Javier Hernandez" with absolutely no logical reasoning behind it. Never thought I'd find someone who needed it explaining to them.
Miker Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 i have never dismissed goodwillie, i always said he will be a decent player if he is bought in alongside a proven striker. I have always maintained if we bought a good quality striker in, we would be in alot better position. The owners seems to be going for cheap unproven players rather than players who would make us stronger. I dont want another relegation battle this season. So would you say that a single proven striker would be enough to turn us from a squad of relegation strugglers to top 10 challengers? I think we have a lot of players that need replacing and our squad seriously lacks depth and competition for places. A single proven striker might win games on his own for us, but is that enough? If a couple of key players get injured, or indeed this new "star" striker, we'll be in trouble. Chelsea bought Torres for 50million in January, yet he scored less goals for both Liverpool and Chelsea last season than Roberts and Kalinic combined. Obviously there's great value in having a proven striker, but it's a team sport, and it's not all about individuals. I don't like the idea of needing to rely on one person for all the goals.
Steve Moss Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Contrary to a lot of posters I think that with Petrovic + Goodwillie + Vierinha + 1 more good centre forward, I think we could have a decent season. Ever the optimist... Come on Rovers If you threw a left back in there I would agree with you. So where do I stand, I hate Venkys with a vengeance and have stated I agree with Ben and the player has signed a four year deal? I am sorry for my stance on our owners but in my honest opinion, they have damaged our club more than I could have ever imagined!! I agree with the opinion that Venkys has seriously damaged the Rovers. I agree with the opinion that their decision making has been disastrous and that they are either arrogant or incompetent or both. I don't hate Venkys, however, as I am hopeful they will learn the errors of their ways and make it right. I have this hope, a forlorn one perhaps, as anger and rage will change nothing.
RoverMad86 Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 I was pointing out what a ludicrous comment our friend saying how he "could end up the next Javier Hernandez" with absolutely no logical reasoning behind it. Never thought I'd find someone who needed it explaining to them. If you look I put "our version of Javier Hernandez" not the "next" one. Don't twist comments.

Stuart Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 This is a serious question- was the player at Stanley House or at the Dunkenhalgh? What's the difference? I'd say Stanley Park edges it in terms of quality but they're comparable.
