Ossydave Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Who was the last player to do well in the PL after moving south of the border? I'm genuinely struggling to think.

Backroom Tom Posted August 14, 2011 Backroom Posted August 14, 2011 Who was the last player to do well in the PL after moving south of the border? I'm genuinely struggling to think. Adam?
Ossydave Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Adam? Ah yes, I wasn't saying it hadn't happened by the way I've just got a thick head today after a heavy day on the lash yesterday. Larsson should have come down earlier he would have definitely done a job.
BuckyRover Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Viduka did well but the SPL was a lot stronger back then
LeChuck Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Who was the last player to do well in the PL after moving south of the border? I'm genuinely struggling to think. Steven Fletcher has done well for Burnley and Wolves. There aren't that many players coming down from the Scottish leagues, even Celtic and Rangers buy Championship quality players now.
imy9 Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 The wigan midfield can't remember his name McCarthy?
LeChuck Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 The wigan midfield can't remember his name McCarthy? Forgot about him, good call. Maybe we should reverse the question; who has come down from Scotland and failed recently? I can't think of any.

We've bought some right tosh from Scotland over the years come to think of it. Forgot about him, good call. Maybe we should reverse the question; who has come down from Scotland and failed recently? I can't think of any. In all fairness not that many have come down recently have they? I think there's a reason for that.
Alex Rover Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Who was the last player to do well in the PL after moving south of the border? I'm genuinely struggling to think. Di Canio? Although do you mean an actual Scotsman?
Ossydave Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Di Canio? Although do you mean an actual Scotsman? No just players in general. Good shout with Di Canio also, another I managed to forget about. I really, really hopd Goodwille turns up to be a lil belter though.

Ossydave Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Tugay? Yeah I know, don't really consider that recent though or most of the others mentioned.
bigbrandjohn Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Shane Long has just scored for West Brom v Utd. One that got away. let's start Goodwillie and use him while he still has the goal hunger. sitting on the bench and having to perform miracles for 15 minutes is too much pressure.

John Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 He is clearly not fat, there was a pic of him with his top off doing his induction song (I think) which illustrates this.
DanLad Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 He is clearly not fat, there was a pic of him with his top off doing his induction song (I think) which illustrates this. Most footballers are thin. As a result a player with a stocky build looks large in comparison. They're not fat, they're just heavier built. Goodwillie falls into the stocky category, in my view.
USABlue Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 There was one moment in front of the riverside not long after he'd come on when he stood next to a wolves defender, looking half a sleep. The ball was played into him his reaction to this was far too slow as the Wolves defender easily took the ball away from him and Goodwillie fell on his backside trying in vain to make up for his complete lack of readiness. That missed chance has to hit the back of the net Tom. When he missed it was said at the time remember Ashley Ward missing similar type of chances. Then you will remember the other incident in front of the Riverside too, where he hustled, kept the ball through a couple of challenges and took the ball down the wing stole the ball back from the defender and won the corner or is not the sort of thing you are looking for. For a cameo first in the Prem I thought he did just fine. As for his shot I watched Nani sky a couple today that looked easier than Goodwillies snap shot. God I am really beginning to despise this MB.

roverandout Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 cant critisise goodwillie for his performance, he looked ok, did alot more than roberts did in his brief 20 minute appearance than roberts did the whole game.

roverandout Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 yep, but that was about it, spent more time arguing with the ref
USABlue Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Don't be silly he won't remember that, it was something positive afterall Exactly, and sadly it seems to be a majority on this board that are this way. I was just happy to have the season back, I feared for us when I heard the 3 defenders out and no we weren't good but there was a few things I thought to take positives from. Up the Rovers.
Arablackburn Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Arab in peace! Cant believe some of u guys think Goodie is fat! Fair enough the guy is a bit of a brute but he is definately not fat, thats solid muscle! He's developed rapidly at Utd over the last couple of years, used to be a wee guy who would get bullied off the ball, now he is the one doing the bullying! His physical strength is one of his many attributes. Glad to see he had a decent debut, only saw what was on MOTD but his turn and shot is typical Goodie. He knows exactly where the goal is regardless of where he is. Cant actually belive he is getting slated by some for missing that chance! It was a half chance at most which he did superbly to goalwards! U guys must have big expectations if u expect those to go in every week!! Im sure he will go on to be a star and make u, and hopefully us, millions!!
