Kalinic, in this attacking side, would be banging them in for fun.

Can we blame this post on alcohol? If not then I don't know what to say...

Only Yakubu scores on a regular basis, and Kalinic didn't show anywhere near the same level of finishing or movement that the Yak has displayed. We barely create any clear cut chances, Yakubu just has a very high conversion rate.

Until the boy stops trying to catch a glimpse of himself in any shiny object in the stadium we'll never know how good he can be. Someone needs to get a hold of him and tell him to start using this supposed strength to better effect. At the moment he seems to actually believe the Kean / Rooney talk and he clearly fancies himself in the looks department. For so many clubs to have looked at him, he clearly has talent. He needs to apply himself better and quickly otherwise he'll wind up on the large scrap heap of talented footballers who thought they had made it.

Its so easy to criticize him only because he is good looking and popular with the ladies.

I couldn't give a shiny shilling if he's popular with the ladies, blokes or farm yard animals. I only want him to play well for Rovers. At the moment he needs to focus his energy on this and this alone. He hasn't made it yet and he won't unless he knuckles down. Deary me, it wasn't a post born from jealousy. I'm far more jealous of the likes of Colin Hendry who will always be regarded as a hero at Rovers because he put everything on the line for the club. Goodwille clearly has some talent to have found himself at at Premier League club, i don't want to see him waste it for the sake of vanity.

Where have you seen Goodwillie only concentrating on his looks?

Personally, all I'm interested in is his ability to play football and at the moment he looks completely out of his depth. He's struggling to adapt to the pace of the Premier League and its physical requirements. He is too easily brushed aside by defenders and struggles to retain possession.

Its all I care about too. It was just a respond to the post about catching in a glance of himself in shiny objects.

He has scored 1 and played 1 good game the last 2. Jury still out.

Come off it. Every time he completes a run or dribble or whatever, the first thing he does is adjust his hair! I'm not sure why your so vehement in his defence. He should be doing more. As Parson Blue says above, he struggling with his physicality. For a lad of his size and reputation as being able to handle himself, he should be doing more in this regard. I attribute much of his failings to a lack of application. It is easy to forget what it would be like for a young man to be earning tens of tholusands a week. It must be easy to slip into a flashy lifestyle. I hope for his own sake he can improve and give this opportunity a real effort.

Never noticed this.

Hes been rubbish so far. For me he is struggling with the pace mostly. Also his technique isnt that good which showed on Dunns goal. Goodwillie wasnt able to get a shot away because he fumbled the ball.

I also know that he has been used as a winger which is completely wrong IMO. He is a striker not suitable as a winger at all. His physical presence also makes him almost useless as a lone man. Think he is most suited in a 4-4-2 which we cant play at the moment because we dont have the midfield for it.

Agree. This is always my issue with footballers. Even if you are not the most technically gifted, you should look to make up for it in other ways. Effort and desire have nothing to do with ability. If Goodwillie is struggling in terms of talent, touch etc... he should be running through walls to make up for it. At the moment he isn't. So many pro's have made decent careers out of a good work ethic. Robbies Savage was never the best footballer, but he made up for it in persistence and work rate.

Goodwillie might not cut the mustard in PL terms. But he isn't giving himself the best chance to make a go of it. In my opinion of course.

I really hope he comes good, we certainly need him too. He looked alright in the last 20 odd minutes against Fulham. Granted, I was watching it online, but he was a consistent outlet. I too want to see more of this mooted agressive streak. I seem to recall reading somewhere that we had signed someone Dickov-like in terms of being a nuisance/pain in the hoop for oppostion defenders.

I don't think he was anywhere near fit enough in the first half the season to play that kind of game. You need to be a super-fit to play like Dickov did in this league.

On Saturday he definitely looked fitter and sharper. I'm surprised that he's receiving criticism after that game, I thought he was very good.

Totally agree he isn't very good to say the least and his ability to get the ball out of his penguin feet makes him look like a pub player. :)

Just shows how opinions differ wildly. I think and have thought, that he looks very, very poor. What exactly does he have that's needed in a striker? Compare him to the strikers in the PL who score goals regularly and he's nowhere near any of those in ability.

I'm not saying he will become a good PL player or anything like that, but his performance on Saturday was good. He pressed the ball, he passed it well, he got into some good positions, and he provided a decent outlet.

You're right in questioning what attributes he has that will make him a good player in this league. He seems to be ok at most things but doesn't have any standout attributes.

If he can become more aggressive and get himself fitter and stronger so that he can be more of a nuisance, then I think he can be a decent squad player for us. If they could be his defining qualities, supported by decent technique, decent pace and decent finishing ability (he WILL score a curler from outside the area soon, he's gone close numerous times) then he'll be ok squad striker. For £2 million you can't expect much more than that really.
