Why ?

How many is it down on last season ?

I don't think it is nearly as much as the numbers that people were throwing around earlier in the summer - certainly not in the thousands. Taken from the fans forum minutes:

GC stated that the new season ticket packages had been well received by fans. Sales were at a decent level. Given the current climate and the experience of other clubs the club were reasonably happy with the current level of sales, which was running a little under sales in 2010 at the same time. Last year had seen a lot of sales in the period between mid-July and September so it was hoped that there would be a similar pattern this year. A comprehensive marketing campaign was planned for the weeks leading up to the start of the season. Sales in the Darwen End were slow, but this probably reflected the point that there was no need to sign up by the retain your seat deadline as seats were unreserved.

AN expressed thanks for the new 19 game season ticket for the Darwen End, which the club has introduced following a request from the Fans’ Forum. In response to a question from BP, GC said that there would be discounts for NUS members for match day tickets.

Judging by the season-ticket sales thousands of Rovers fans can see no reason for optimism whatsoever. Do they have an agenda?

You obviously do, because nobody knows how many season tickets have been sold, yet you’re using the numbers to argue a point.

Have you got yours 47er? by the way you're on the wrong thread, this is reasons for optimism :tu:

With that cn174, you would think there would be at least around 23-24,000 for tomorrows game, which wouldnt be too bad given whats gone on this summer.

Any more than 25k and I'd be thinking WOW people really are buying into what Kean and the club are saying.

Hughesy said that they 'are not as good as hoped', which tells me that they haven't picked up that much in the last few weeks.

Hope it is only a few hundred and not thousands sown as a heaving Ewood Park is what we all want.

I think JAL is about right with his prediction, 23/24k and thats a good return.

It is in the thousands. Nowhere near the 5000 that people were quoting early summer though.

I seem to remember it being bandied around as fact that we were DEFINITELY going to lose HALF of our season ticket holders.

Not being talked about so much anymore.

Strange

by who? phil?

The fact we are 0000s down when they are only £200 a pop for 19 PL games is disapointing, whatever way you look at it.

I made it about half a page into this thread before I got sick of all the pansy-ass "fans" on here who seem to want no part of supporting the club and seem to be cheering for us to get relegated. This post is not meant for you. This is a message to supporters that want the club to succeed. The rest of you can go swallow a load spunk for all I care.

Reasons for Optimism:

5 new players have joined since we started last season - Formica, Rochina, Bruno, Petrovic, Goodwillie. Aside from Bruno, all of them are quite young and have great reputations for their age. Half the big clubs were after Petrovic, Goodwillie won a young playre of the season award, Formica's pre-season has been outstanding, Rochina came from Barca's youth academy and showed glimpses of that in his short outings last season. We didn't "lose" RSC, JJones, MB Diouf, etc. We borrowed them and we were always going to have to give them back. Many forget that we didn't start the season with JJones and did just fine. Many also forget that the window isn't over and all reports say we are working to bring in more talent.

Quality football is being played - How quick so many people are to forget how many points we were denied at the end of the campaign due to poor referring decisions, unlucky penalties, and Nani pushing for an Oscar nomination. People for some reason seemed to think that changing our brand of football from hoof and chase to Kean's style is an overnight process. It was a big change for all the players and at the end of the season we played some very good stuff. The growing pains are behind us and now, with a full preseason under our belts, I see no reason why we can't continue the good form we ended last season in.

Moral is high - I've seen a lot of people here slag off Roberts for his happy-go-lucky tweets. Those people are human garbage. What kind of supporter mocks a player for being in high spirits at their club? By all accounts, the players are very optimistic about the campaign, the manager, and the owners. Stop slagging them off and get on board. Happy players are going to play better, any "supporter" who tries to knock them for being enthusiastic about the team should be wearing a Burnley shirt and having threesomes with his sister and her dog.

Our young players are developing better than we could have hoped - Olsson and Hoilett are two of the most dangerous weapons Rovers have had in some time. Their pace, skill, and creativity are great assets, but their versatility is what makes them so valuable. They can each player several roles at a high standard. If they build even 10% on what they did last season then they will be exciting to watch every game. This will be a make-or-break season for N'Zonzi I feel. He was our POTS two years ago and if he can put his head down and work to recreate the form he had in 09-10 then he ought to fare well partnered with Petrovic or even Grella. These players have also all been involved in a high-pressure relegation fight, which will only make them stronger and help them to mature on and off the pitch. There's a lot to look forward to in these guys.

Our Senior Players still have much to offer - Nelson, Emerton, Dunn, Peders and Salgado will have a lot to do on and off the pitch this season and the young guys will be looking to them. Emerton can still do a job almost anywhere on the field, Nelson is still a top premiership center back, and Salgado is among the smartest defenders in the league (thank God, he ain't getting any younger) I heard a few places he was top-10 in the league for intercepted passes last season, our younger players can learn well from him. If Dunn stays fit then he is a consistent performer who will do well for us and can help Formica to become a premiership-quality player. Peders hasn't been good lately, and the only positive to take from that is that he may work harder to fight for his place, if not he will be sold. We have one of the top keepers in the Premiership to anchor us in the back. He had to come in and fill Brad's giant shoes a few seasons ago but he has succeeded with aplomb. There's no doubt that he is a massive asset to us.

That's 5 reasons for optimism. I have no doubt that I'll get flogged for this post, as often is the case for Rovers Supporters who actually support Rovers and don't slag them day in day out on this board. I don't give a damn if folks take a ###### at this though, because I for one am I'm excited for this season and think we can do alright. Either way, I'll be cheering us on.

UP THE ROVERS

Who wants us to get relegated? stop taling utter tripe.

As for the rest of your post, I've read the same from numerous posters, hope you're right, the time for talk is almost over.

You know thats uncanny. Its exactly how I thought about all the idiots moaning constantly about hoofball when Sam was in charge and saying they weren't renewing their season tickets. Of course you and all the other people on here critising the pessimists never did that because that would be just hypocritical beyond belief. But it happens under every manager, there's always some fans who aren't happy with how things are done, doesn't mean anyone wants us to go down.

All you Kean knockers and Andrews boo-ers take note.

Great post Amazing Tim. You've lifted my spirits.brfcsmilie.gif

sorry tim, half of that it utter tripe.

quality of football? we were still nearlly relegated, i didnt see that much of a difference between kean's style or sam's.

so your blaming referees for us nearly being relegated? i can think of alot of moments in games last season where we rode out luck.

yes we have some experienced players at the club, which means theyre not getting any younger, dunn is struggling with injuries, pedersen has been useless for a number of years,

the young players, fair enough are promising but still unproven, how do we know formica or goodwillie are up to it at this level? rochina has potential, how long will hoillet and olsson be with us if they continue with their progress?

some of your points are valid, others are not
