Kamy100 Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Just talked to Venky's PR, have confirmed that Milito is a target BUT he is not the number 1 target. There is someone else who is equally big. Under strict orders not to reveal who it is or even drop any hints, so won't be saying anymore at this stage. Will be trying to talk to Milito's agent (Fernando Hidalgo) later today.

This could be a very very interesting fortnight. Thank's for the update kamy. Always appreciated.
cruz Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Hopefully this rumour has more substance than the 'Venkys to Sell' fairytale
Mattyh1983 Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 great signing for us if we can pull it off... how come everyone is expecting us to sign Raul as well.. is this an active transfer? get his mate Salgado on the case. will be good if it happens id prefer signings done and dusted for the Wolves game than the last minute scramble of deadline day so we can get our shape and attack mind in focus.. COME ON!!!!! :!:
alexanders Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 He was awarded UEFA Club player of the year in 2010.
magicalmortensleftpeg Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 The only issue here is that one of these marquee signings actually needs to be bought. We have heard all summer how we're after Raul/Honda/Podolski and now Milito, but if none of them sign then whats the point? Sooner or later we need to be making some progress. I'd love for us to sign one of these players but so far we've heard alot of players linked without there seeming to be any real effort made to actually sign them.
scunnyrover Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Would love this to come off but just can't see it happening, as soon as we lodge a bid in old 'arry will probs go in for him. Would deffo be a quality addition if he stayed injury free, and would surely bang goals in. But as kamy said not our number one, excited at the prospect who this is if milito isn't number one

Too much is made of rumour; how interested were we, clubs enquire about availability etc and journalist and ITKs spark a feeding frenzy.

This "not the number 1 target" business makes me think we won't get him, because for clubs like Genoa he will be their number 1 target. Will be interested to know who the number 1 target is.
chris Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 I've been at work all night whilst trying to find a way to make 'Milito' sound like 'Camel toe'. Sadly i can't do it. Shame because a strike force of Goodwille and Camel Toe would have been too priceless. I could really go for a sideways sloppie joe or a tuna casserole baby don't you know Just talked to Venky's PR, have confirmed that Milito is a target BUT he is not the number 1 target. Thanks Kamy, interesting times indeed, not been as excited for a long time, lets hope at least one of these come off, it would be SUPERB. Do you think this is why the players were excited?

daveoftherovers Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 top trying to make him reveal it or Venkys will not give him info in the future. What on earth are you talking about? Can you not read (Or spell?) I simply asked if anyone thought if these were the reasons the players were so excited after meeting the owners and tweeted so. So how on earth is that me asking for confidential information you clown? Think before you type.

No will not give you my telephone number what kind of man so you think I am, I have a girlfriend thank you. Was winding you up, worked well.
imy9 Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 I'll throw a name into the hat- Diego Forlan, would be a marquee signing, similar age and a top class striker.
neophox Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 yes Diego Forlan has been linked a while, same age as Milito and i think he's the better one of the two and Milito is second choice. I also believe that Forlan is cheaper.
Nelsta Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 i'll throw in Lisandro Lopez. Just cause he's ace on fifa
Bobby G Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Lisandro is at his peak. Unlikely. But my initial instinct was Diego Forlan too.
chris Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Forlan has something to prove in the Premier League, I bet he wants one more shot at it. I definately think we will be creating chances for a striker.
roverandout Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 no chance of getting forlan, i bet the number 1 target is raul, of which we already know about.
LeChuck Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 I expect somebody to mention his poor goal return last season and describe him as a waste of money. I was going to do something similar. In fact, I still am. I'd be very wary of signing him personally. Even his prime I don't think he was the sort of player who would have easily adapted to the Premier League. He's not even in his prime now - a poor record last season and a few niggling injuries. We don't have to get all bleary-eyed just because he's a big name - bigger and better players than him have failed on these shores. I think he'd be another Shevchenko if he arrived - past his best and without the natural game to be an instant hit. If we've got the money required to bring him here, it would be better spent elsewhere.
promoted2001 Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 They are desperate for a "marquee" signing. The way to go is a mix of youth and experience IMO. The January signings of Formica and Rochina were good and I think both will be put into use (Formica more so than Rochina). Personally I'd be happy to see them go for Barton even if he is an pain in the rear. He would be a good battler in DM. Mix him in with another striker and a defender and we should meet expectations.

Take away the name and look at his age, how much he would cost (£8m?) and his performances/injury history last season and it's not worth the gamble imo. They are desperate for a "marquee" signing. The way to go is a mix of youth and experience IMO. The January signings of Formica and Rochina were good and I think both will be put into use (Formica more so than Rochina). The jury is still out in regards to Formica and Rochina, they haven't proven they are a flop yet but also haven't done anything yet to suggest the money was well spent. We will know a lot more this season about both players. I agree with you on Barton, but accept there is far too much baggage for him to be accepted here both by the majority of the fans and the owners. On the marquee issue clubs like United, City and others could afford to bring in a veteran player for a season or two, can Rovers?
