[Archived] Allardyce on Kean and Venky's

Recommended Posts

We were heading for relegation under Souness and he was heading for the sack before he jumped ship to Newcastle. Hughes lost interest when the Trust did not back him in the transfer market. The point is, both managers could not take the club any farther and their time was up - Sam was never given the chance to do so.

Allardyce was brought in to work on a limited budget, he had a reputation for finding players for little money and making them into a better players. He didn't do that here, in fact he pulled his mush when told the budget was limited the following season, and then tried to jump ship when funds got frozen because of the takeover.

We plucked him off the scrap heap, gave him a job with restrictions that he was happy to take, then he moaned and groaned and eventually tried to leave, and you see him as some sort of messiah?

Allardyce was given money over his tenure, he just blew that cash, Hughes wouldn't have done that.

We were also heading for relegation under Ince, looked a team truly down and out however thanfully Sam came in and saved us - fans should be grateful for that achievement alone.

Fans are John, I certainly am, that gets lost on here though, you can't give credit and dislike someone, thats not allowed <_<

Sam? Yes.

He certainly came out with comments that indicated he was open to a move elsewhere. There was talk about how he could manage a huge team like Real Madrid and do a good job, then there was comments about how he would love to manage an international team and finally there was a team in Dubai? That he was heavily linked to.

I can't mourn the loss of Sam because I wanted him out, but I wasn't expecting or wanting Steve Kean to be appointed.

Allardyce was brought in to save the club from releagtion - which he achieved and then improved on massively the next season. I don't see him as "messiah" - your word - but he saved the club from when it was in desperate straits. If we had gone down I don't think we would have recovered. For that I am grateful to him and I regret that he was not allowed to take the club farther. All managers have a limited shelf life but Sam left Rovers too early.

Well Jim I may save this post, because by your definition Kean could be your next 'messiah' saved us from relegation and may well improve us this season :D

Hope WHAM lose today !

Be interesting to see how they play. Will they play football given that West Ham now have the best squad in the Championship so Sam can't trot out the excuse about being limited to 'hoofball' by the players he's got, or will Sam revert to type and the Upton Park regulars will have to get used to the ball in the air 90% of the time?

Agreed.

Commentator just said "They're queuing down Green Street for season tickets"

You just need to look at the Trevor Brooking stand to know thats just not true, its empty.

I really hope that Big Sam does well this season for WHU and they come back up.

SA did a great job at rovers and should get the credit he deserve. Save us from going down when he came in. Get us into the top 10 season after rovers needed to sell players to balance the books and got us to a semi final.

Most of you weren't slagging him off when he keep us up after the Ince reign were you???

That's because most people saw the agricultural football of that period as a necessary evil, a means to an end.

However, when we continued to play the same way the following season, people began to get disgruntled. The poor excuses (no money - but wasted £6m on Kalinic?), and the constant self-aggrandising only added to it.

Anyway, he's gone - West Ham fans have to put up with the direct football and overblown ego now. Good luck to them.

I was fully behind Sam after 2009/2010. We ended the season with a flourish and the football improved. I thought he was taking us in the right direction. Then came last season and we were back to playing crap, with the same squad of players who finished 10th, while Sam shunned others like Hoilett who could improve our game. His percentage game was sucking the soul out of the club and fans supported the man through gritted teeth. Watching Rovers became a mere routine instead of a hobby. I knew that until the club was taken over, we'd be stuck with him. No one was to know that Venky's would sack him mid-season and call-up the teaboy.

And please, I don't care if you want to dissect any of my points, I won't be debating them. We've been over this crap about a million times now. Blackburn Rovers existed long before Mr. Samuel Allardyce and it'll live long after. Wish some would realize that.

Messiah is your word - and you know Kean didn't save us from relegation. A silly post.

Very sad seeing all the Sam haters queuing up hoping to see West Ham stumble in the first match.

I somewhat agree with you topman but I think if SA was allow by the walker trust to spend 10 to 15 million pounds he would have bought in better quality players. I know when we sold RSC, Sam Allardyce wanted Darren Bent or Peter Crouch but we couldn't afford them. These type of striker would have improve things.

I agree over Hoilett with you Topman. It's the best thing Kean has done.

When the owners sack him, I thought someone like Martin Jol was coming in.

Anyway think it is time for this debate to be left now. I won't comment anymore about SA and his time at rovers.

One thing I would say is that sam has promised west ham attacking football this year, yet he still starts their first home game of the season with 1 striker up front and cole on the bench. Surely 2 up front would have made sense.

Nothing to stop clubs sacking their managers and hiring Allardyce, if he's truly the bee's knees.

Allardyce said himself he was disappointed to receive no interest from the vacant clubs in the summer. You have to ask yourself why he wasn't in the running. Not only last summer but before *we* hired him, as well. Seems strange that such a successful and proven manager would be so unpopular. That was the point I made to Drog about Sam and his media contacts, before you decided to jump in.

Two former England managers are now in the Championship. It does not mean they are crap. There are only so many teams for all ex-managers to apply for and many of these jobs have long-established employees at the helm.

It is a shame that SA generates so much interest across all Rovers boards. The reason being many months on, is that we employed a complete moron, plank and no-mark to replace him. If we had employed someone with some history, quality and ability then he would rarely get mentioned now, but with the present idiot / non entity / fool in charge of the club many remember back to days gone by.

Indeed. You are spot on there. Unfortunately I don't think the only ones with more of what you stipulate, namely Ferguson, Wenger, Moyes or Redknapp would come.... and especially not for Keans money and after they saw the way Allardyce was bulletted.

We didn't go down, Kean was the manager, so he saved us from relegation, lets deal in facts Jim not fiction.

I didn't really care about West Ham at all, until Allardyce opened his big mouth again yesterday.

He's in good company with Gold, Brady and Sulivan though isn't he, a right 'rent a gob mob'

Need to get your facts right. WHAM have a stricter segregation policy and do not sell season tickets for that stand.

Kean did not save us from relegation - he took us to the brink of relegation with one of the worse runs feasible.

Your hatred of Allardyce is embarrassing.

You should be careful what you wish for.

Maji, I was going to add to my initial point in that yes most teams play one up front but have fast attacking midfielders supporting the forward. West ham don't seem to have that. Piquionne has been up top alone on more than one occasion waiting for support.

Seems you're wrong once again Mercerman, the upper tier of the Trevor Brooking standing is a family area with season tickets available for £500.

Like most of what you write on here, complete and utter cr@p.
