Glenn Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 I heard earlier today that the Blackburn End is to be renamed the Ronnie Clayton stand, but as I couldn't verify this and I'd been asked to keep quiet until tomorrow, I did kept quiet. But it seems it's hit twitter now, so figured it's out there, so there you go.

Backroom Tom Posted August 12, 2011 Backroom Posted August 12, 2011 Brilliant move by the club if true.
Stuart Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Bit more credibility you saying it Glenn, than some random tweets. Great news! Well done Venkys. Perhaps they are learning after all.
Josh Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Great news and a fitting tribute to Ronnie and his family
NookRover Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 If it's confirmed I'm very very happy with that!
AggyBlue Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 It will always be the Blackburn End to me, I'll never ever call it anything else.
Rover9 Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 It will be a fitting tribute to one of the all time Rovers greats if this is true, and it won't come a minute too soon. Just a shame he isn't around to see it himself
chaddyrovers Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 excellent news is that. good move by the owners and Paul Hunt
bringdunnback Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Just a shame he isn't around to see it himself Some people will probably blame Venkys for that. A fantastic gesture from Venkys and one that should be applauded.
Iceman Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 will that ugly stand be redeveloped, the one that looks like a bus stop? good stuff Venkys if true, would be a nice tribute to Ronnie Clayton and his family
JAL Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Rather than pissing about renaming stands Venkys should be focusing all their energy on bringing in some much much needed quality players.
goodwillie_style Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Rather than pissing about renaming stands Venkys should be focusing all their energy on bringing in some much much needed quality players. oh will you shut up and give credit were credits due for once, your unbelievable and must be one miserable person to be around
Josh Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Rather than pissing about renaming stands Venkys should be focusing all their energy on bringing in some much much needed quality players. Yes because I bet they've been sat in the board room for 6 weeks deciding what to call the stand.
slough_rover Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Rather than pissing about renaming stands Venkys should be focusing all their energy on bringing in some much much needed quality players. Who says they arent doing both at the same time? Of course to appease your agenda they aren't.
JAL Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Yes because I bet they've been sat in the board room for 6 weeks deciding what to call the stand. Judging by the lack of transfer activity you'd have to say so. oh will you shut up and give credit were credits due for once, your unbelievable and must be one miserable person to be around Earn the respect on the pitch first, then you'll get the full praise for things like this after.
mark1875 Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Rather than pissing about renaming stands Venkys should be focusing all their energy on bringing in some much much needed quality players. for god sake, this is a thread about paying a tribute to an absolute Rovers legend!! for goodness sake have some decency and don't use this to aid your anti-venky's agenda.
67splitscreen Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Top decision and well deserved. Picture of the legends around the outside of the ground next please.
Grez Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Can we call the darwen end the Brian Douglas stand then? He is still alive, a cracking fella who I speak to each week and know that if you cut him in half would be blue and White. I would just like to celebrate his opening a renamed stand whilst alive to see it. Great idea for ronnie clayton stand and would be nice if his wife officially opened it.
NookRover Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Some of you lot are just totally unbelievable!
Mercer Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Clayton was an absolutely great servant, no doubt, however, where do you draw the line. What about John Lewis & Arthur Constantine (joint founders), Bob Crompton (45 year association), Bryan Douglas. Are they any less deserving ? So 'many greats' and the wrong decision at the wrong time. Political spinning at its worst, in my opinion, in order to try and deflect from the mess we are in.
Glenn Posted August 12, 2011 Author Posted August 12, 2011 I SHOULD STRESS. This isn't my usual reliable source (aka Kamy ), so I don't know if there is any truth in it, only that the same rumour has now surfaced on twitter,

Not like you to look on the negative side Also regarding your point in bold, if only we had a stand named after Jack Walker. A 'Jack Walker Stand' if you will. Ah well, we can only imagine I suppose.
