A cup of beans
Clayton was an absolutely great servant, no doubt, however, where do you draw the line. What about John Lewis & Arthur Constantine (joint founders), Bob Crompton (45 year association), Bryan Douglas. Are they any less deserving ? So 'many greats' and the wrong decision at the wrong time. Political spinning at its worst, in my opinion, in order to try and deflect from the mess we are in. unbelievable. its a tribute FFS! ronnie clayton was an all-time great. respected throughout the country! stop polluting every thread. show some decency and respect! dont reply to this post, mercerman. it'll take away from discussing the gesture. SAS
I heard earlier today that the Blackburn End is to be renamed the Ronnie Clayton stand, but as I couldn't verify this and I'd been asked to keep quiet until tomorrow, I did kept quiet. But it seems it's hit twitter now, so figured it's out there, so there you go. Sure it wasn't my scoop at 9:18pm in the transfer thread
texasrover
Every week Mr. Clayton used to hand deliver a match program to my grandmother, who wasn't able to get out much. She would bring them over to America every Christmas and give them to me and my dad. Great gesture by the man, and it was neat because every week he would get one signed by a different player. She's since passed away, too, and when we were cleaning out her house, next to her old radio we found notepad after notepad of every score from every game across the league for the past who knows how many years. Once a rover, always a rover right?

Zac - Clayton did a lot of great things for the club and the locality, some of which I both saw and was part of. However, with these things, you have to be very, very careful. Are Messrs Lewis, Constantine, Crompton, Douglas etc any less illustrious or deserving ? Correct me if I'm wrong but don't we already have an entertainment suite named after him and Dougie ? As for showing some decency and respect, think you need to preach to many others before you get to me !

He gave stadium tours and brought local schools to ewood. He was a heck of a lot more than a footballer. He was a lifelong ambassador for Rovers and deserves a lot more than having a stand named after him.

Or the stand his shots went over is just as appropriate. The issue of naming stands for Ronnie or Dougie was in an earlier thread re the renaming of Ewood? I think I said it would be good to have both commemorated with the BB and Darwen Ends. The Darwen End presumably off limits at the moment. How about the B. Hole Riverside Stand.
