Clayton was an absolutely great servant, no doubt, however, where do you draw the line. What about John Lewis & Arthur Constantine (joint founders), Bob Crompton (45 year association), Bryan Douglas. Are they any less deserving ?

So 'many greats' and the wrong decision at the wrong time.

Political spinning at its worst, in my opinion, in order to try and deflect from the mess we are in.

Totally agree though it would appear there are at least seven numpty's who seem to disagree.

So anyone who doesn't agree with your opinion is a numpty?

No ! with Mercerman Tom as he seems to have gotten a lot of stick along with Philipl and a few others over the past few months.

Nice gesture although I wonder who made the decision and for waht purpose?

Just a shame that it was done on a losing performance against the very club that must have provided Ronnie with his greatest professional disappointment.

It will always be the Blackburn End to me, I'll never ever call it anything else.

What about The Ronnie Clayton Blackburn End?

You guys get a lot of stick for good reason.

And, no, it's not because you're "Anti-Venky's" or however you wish to martyr yourselves. There's plenty of posters who can criticize them in a calm, reasoned manner, without resorting to the histrionics that you and your little cabal do.

It is good to see one of the stands named after someone who is undoubtedly an all-time great, though I never saw him play his achievements and devotion to the club are still there for all to see.

However, as regards the gesture, it's all about context. In my mind either one of two things happened.

1) Our owners suddenly became well versed in the traditions and history of our great club and were inspired to name the Blackburn End after one of our club legends.

2) Our owners asked their advisors which gestures could be made to placate the fans after a disastrous summer of incompetence and more broken promises. Ronnie Clayton's name was used for these purposes.

Since I wasn't in the relevant meetings, I have no real way of knowing.

Round of applaues for Venky's [and anyone else involved here].

The Ronnie Clayton Blackburn end would be as good a tribute to Ronnie as could be.

Now, let's rename the Darwen end "the Bryan Douglas stand".

and let's do it while he's still around to see it.

Rovers should bask in their history, and remember other greats, such as Bob Crompton with statues, bricks or whatever.

It looks as though it will be known as the "Ronnie Clayton Blackburn End" - just been on OneRovers and that's how it is named.

To be honest that sounds like a decent compromise to me. Obviously its great to honour legendary players but I'm a big fan of the traditional names personally. Ewood Park hasn't changed in over 100 years and presumably neither have the Blackburn/Darwen Ends.

yes, can't believe Crompton hasn't been honoured in some way already

Please tell me you are kidding? The Bob Crompton suite is a well used venue in the Blackburn End...

A true gent in the game and a fitting tribute to someone who gave his all for us. :)

Finally the Venky's have got something right. :)

Yes, I realised that after I posted mum.

I think the general point still stands, especially the point about doing something for Bryan Douglas while he's still with us.

I'm pretty certain that Bryan will have his tribute, people are well aware of his legend status and contribution to the club. Meanwhile, can we not appreciate Ronnie's honour?

Of course we can mum. Not complaining about that at all.

You don't seem your usual happy self these days?

Doh! Apparently it's been a while since I've been round that end of the stadium!

Don't think any of us are at the moment, Den. A few new faces to bolster the squad and a couple of wins might perk me up a bit...

I'm sure you noticed 4 new stands go up between 87 and 94?

The only thing remaining from that era is the boardroom, albeit removed and re-fitted

But Nuttal Street became the Jack Walker Stand and the Riverside became the Walkersteel Stand/Fraser Eagle Stand/CIS Stand etc etc

So half of the ground has kept the same stand names for over 100 years ;)

I wonder if we will see Ronnie's name on the front of the stand roof as they do at many clubs?

Jack Walker stand

Ronnie Clayton Blackburn End stand

Bryan Douglas Darwen End stand

Bob Crompton Riverside stand.
