Backroom Tom Posted August 20, 2011 Backroom Share Posted August 20, 2011 I'm also wondering what mercerman is referring to as the shocks in the lineup?? We knew there was a question mark over samba, we knew givet was out. Only chane I see is Formica for Goodie, not a massive shock really. I just fail to see where the big issue mercerman mentioned is!! Nothing he did his usual alluding to knowing something hoping he's right. Wasn't he the one who had heard rumblings Formica couldn't trap a ball and we had been conned? Ha ha that reply is brilliant, because nobody was sure of the exact team that makes him right? slough_rover
Or he's easing him in. Funny that people defend a certain ex manager for doing the same with Hoilett yet criticise the current one for the same thing. Plus a million!!
T.J.Newton
im presuming that he has put goodwillie in ahead of formica because mauro isnt that big, and goodwillie has some strength to give them some problems goodwillie n formica are the same size, goodwillie prob stronger though. philipl
Will we get the ball into their half often enough to give Goodie and JRob the chance to tire them out? What is our likely ball posession today?
watford-rover
goodwillie n formica are the same size, goodwillie prob stronger though. i didnt mean height, i meant that goodie looks to have some upper boody strength compared to mauro who must weigh 10st soaking wet, against centre halfs like collins and dunne mauro would be bullied and really struggle. Waggy76
Not going to get into any debates but doubt anyone expected that team. Playing Nelsen, IMO, is a huge, huge risk both for this match and longer term. You would have thought that given "the spirit within the group", Samba would have at least travelled (speculation is that he hasn't). Most also be some bug that Givet has. Formica impresses on debut with his goal and workrate yet he's dropped for Goodwillie who looks to have some way to go in fitness terms. Roberts - Venky's and Kean's mouthpiece - looks untouchable. Enough said. Looks like we are going to need to sign more than one defender. When you have the sitaution we have with senior pros such as Samba, Givet and yes, Diouf - there has to be something amiss with the management and our club. Surely, surely, the alarm bells are ringing loudly and clearly. Even Cryoer on Twitter says the Samba stuff is 'strange'. I agree with the Nelsen comments , I don't think he has kicked a ball since March .

Plastic Head
goodwillie n formica are the same size, goodwillie prob stronger though. The idiot maintains his policy of dropping anyone who scores. Why is he still here? Another depressing defeat.
RibbleValleyRover
Well from reading some of the comments on 'Villatalk' most don't seem too happy with their lineup and think it's far too defensive. It's a bit laughable really as most of those players would walk into our team. Perhaps some hope there if their assessment is correct?

I am glad I am not the only one looking at that line up and thinking that stretched as we are, we could have put a much stronger team on the park today from the Rovers-registered players who are fit. And yes I am counting Samba, Givet and EHD as fully fit and really fear for Nelsen's long term future in plying him today.

Don't get into a debate? Why is there some legal issue? Playing Nelsen is a risk BUT who else could you play? Nzonzi? Risk worth taking. As there were issues with Samba and Givet when Sam was here there something amiss with his management too no? I want Kean out but the constant rumour mongering nonsense on here is getting pathetic and is harming our club not just Kean.
daveoftherovers
I'm not looking forward to Agbonlahor against Salgado Salgado should make him a permanent fixture to the advertising boards in the first minute and accept the yellow as he's stretchered off It's probably on these occassions where you'd like to borrow Andy Todd or The Axe for the 1st 5 minutes LOL

philipl
We have three senior pros not playing because of Kean fall-outs. Yes they are strong characters and difficult to manage but collectively the absence of Samba, Givet and Diouf points to Kean not being up to the job. Then we move on to the mis-management of Kalinic and what happened with the oddity of blowing all our transfer budget in a relegation scrap on two players who between them managed 150 minutes in half a season. Anyway, over to Kean to prove me wrong and take the heat off himself with a win today.

We saw him play in the Asia Cup, nothing heard about him since then but he can't even make the bench and his name is on the list of players Venkys are looking to sell.
