This from the Guardian report is awful:

However, he could not provide an explanation about where this had happened or who was responsible and the district judge Nicholas Sanders said he had a public duty to ban him from the roads so he could "no longer represent a danger to the public".

"There is no evidence of lacing of drinks," Sanders said. "No one has come forward and said: 'Yes, I put 17 vodkas into his beer.' There is another explanation – and that is Mr Kean had more to drink than he has admitted."

The judge concluded this was "the more likely explanation" and questioned whether Kean's account could be regarded as truthful. He said: "It is perhaps relevant that when he was stopped by the police and asked whether he had had anything to drink he replied 'no' and that was clearly not true."

and

The judge, however, decided that Kean had failed to prove his case and that there was "a strong public interest that people who are guilty of drink-driving are dealt with expeditiously so they can be taken off the roads and no longer represent a danger to the public."

Earlier, Kean's solicitor had asked for an adjournment because one of the key defence witnesses, the Sky Sports interviewer Geoff Shreeves, had said he could not attend because he was covering a press conference at Arsenal's training ground.

The application was dismissed and the judge said: "What I do not know is why that particular work commitment had to take priority over what is his [shreeves's] public duty to attend court to give evidence. It seems to me that Sky are a big organisation and could have found someone to cover."

Pretty damning.

This clown has to get the sack.

I have never been so ANGRY in over 20+ years as a Rover's supporter.

In my opinion, people who drink and drive are one of the lowest scumbags in society.

Family orientated club?????? Not with this idiot in charge.

Time to wake up Venky's!!!!!!!!!!!

My initial reaction is sack for footballing reasons, as he has been unquestionably awful.

Look at the results under him as a whole, speaks for itself.

I abhor drink-driving and will make no apologies for it.

However, if he had admitted the offence like a man, taken his punishment and moved on, this incident would have now been in the past.

But instead he choose to try and weasel his way out of it, constantly lying and trying to find excuses (he tried to blame the Rovers fans!!!), only for the judge to see right through the blatent lies and punish him.

I didn't like him anyway but was willing to give him chance to provide results. Results = success and staying in a job, simple as.

But now, after today, I just want him out of my club and I can't see myself wanting to go to a Rovers match whilst he's still at the club and I know that I'm not alone in that sentiment.

Now is the time Venky's - do the right thing for our club and sack the pathetic liar.

Just a gentle reminder that the chairman's work e-mail address is on page 413 and 418 (or thereabouts) of the Steve Kean thread.

P.S. Even now, he is only 9/4 second favourite to be the 1st manager to go. Warnock is evens (at William Hill)

True, if he took it without the bull that followed, the judge says it all really.

Should have just owned up in the first place and not just tried to pull the wool over everyones eyes, admit he made a mistake, kept his dignity and faced the consequences like a man.

As for the drink driving charge, Idiot - NO excuse.

Sack him, gross misconduct, by his laughable defence has further tarnished the clubs name. If I had done the same, I would have potted by my employer for the above reason

Wow, this even made the paper here in Canada and I never see Rovers related news here. This is embarrassing for the club and he should be forced to resign if for anything PR reasons.

SACK HIM.

It's pretty obvious to see the direction the club is headed in under Venky's, but not having to look at Steve Kean's hapless mug on the touch line would be a small crumb of comfort.

He is a scheming, backstabbing liar that should never have got near the hotseat in the first place. "Some fans spiked my drink" - pathetic.

I felt sorry for Steve Kean at first, if anything he was winning me over. I honestly thought he was a decent person who was going the extra mile to help improve the club despite the shambles behind the scenes. Now I have lost all respect for the guy.

Anyone who drink drives is a disgrace and to lie about it in court just makes things a lot worse.

Get rid Venkys.

Bit controversial but bring back Graeme Souness. He'll whip the club into shape on and off the pitch!

Consider this.

If Kean is not dismissed, will he feel any negative impact from this conviction?

Posted

82% sack.

If this were politics the buzzards would be circling.

Like the bothersom crap he is, he will float on and refuse to be flushed.

Maybe the Chickens are....... ^_^

this should be the final straw he has to go, Hes now been proven in court to be an arrogant Liar, not trying to demonise him or anything hes just a regular bloke i suppose but he is definetely not fit to run a premiership football club.

I know it won't change much, but has anyone sent an e-mail yet? Or should that be another e-mail?

praneeth_rao@venkys.org

vineeth_rao@venkys.org (Isn't this the new chairman who came in at the same time as Simon Hunt?)

Sorry if this is a bit personal, putting e-mails up like this, but I actually got them from another poster here, and they look like work e-mail addresses, rather than personal e-mail addresses.

Apparently, several biggish bets placed, in London area, in last couple of hours on Kean going. P.P. supposed to be monitoring carefully and looking at the 'pattern'. One local bookie wont offer odds.

My bet is on and off on a short city break now.

Hopefully, back to a new manager and some winnings.

This has happened 3 times with Kean now, I wont believe anything till it happens.

No way. We've had two top managers since the turn of the century and Souness is not one of them.

btw I have voted which is quite unusual for me. I have voted exactly the same as I would have yesterday. Todays carry on is just an irrelevence, a side issue.
