No way. We've had two top managers since the turn of the century and Souness is not one of them.

btw I have voted which is quite unusual for me. I have voted exactly the same as I would have yesterday. Todays carry on is just an irrelevence, a side issue.

....and only 1 trophy winner :P

Anyway, like I said, controversial but I liked the early days under Souness and I like him as a person. Only my opinion ;)

Should be sacked for this AND footballing reasons... but then he should have been sacked for footballing reasons roughly 5 or 6 months ago. Scrap that, he should just never have been given the job permanently in the first place.

I'm not holding my breath on him being sacked though. It's difficult to remember the last time the club did something I actually agree with... probably at a stretch keeping ST prices the same, though it doesn't seem to have stopped crowds falling.

No sure if Souey has the heart for it these days. Looks quite comfy on Sky Sports.

As a short-term fix, he wouldn't be a bad shout.

If Venky's do sack Kean, they need to act swiftly and decisively. We still need a batch of new players, and the upheaval of hiring a new boss could jeopardize that.

As a short term appointment - to the end of the year/season - that's a great shout.

But would he come? And does he have enough contacts and current knowledge of players (at our level).

It would need to happen pretty rapidly to give us any chance of taking advantage of the next 2 weeks transfer potential.

Regardless of who might come in, we need personel, not just a bit of barking. Plus Dunny's nose would be put right out of joint.

Me too but the bad days and the squad he left behind would never allow me to back his appointment. Neither would the bad smell surrounding us (and subsequently NUFC) funding Glasgow Rangers allow me to either.

As for winning trophies yeah OK but I have one massive gripe about him treating BRFC in the UEFA cup as a distracting sideshow to be got out of asap. I had some great craic in Europe when Hughes was manager.

What an absolute mug. I cannot believe the "laced" thing was actually used in defence?? That is a pretty damming verdict, going by the Guardian report.

Enormously disappointed. The club must have a disciplinary procedure for the players for similar incidents and he should be treated in the same manner. I would very much doubt we would sack a player (or a less unpopular manager) on this basis. Therefore, I've voted no.

However, after the Myles Anderson call, deciding it was appropriate to get on the wine with RFM in the first place given our situation at the time and a less than impressive record, I hope Venky's quietly find a way to move him on somehow AFTER a suitable replacement has been sought.

Sack him. Both for drink driving and being an awful manager.

He should also be sacked a third time for lying in court;

According to the daily mail, Kean "frequently left the glass unattended as he talked to football supporters, signed autographs and posed for photographs."

I'm fairly certain people don't pose for photographs with Steve Kean, or ask for his autograph.

I don't think we need to fret unduly about that 'distraction' just now though, theno!

I might seem a bit cynical, and I don't know if anybody else's mentioned it, but if he pleaded guilty in May wouldn't it have been easier to get shut of him, rather then after the season starts and with two weeks till the transfer window closes!

Kean cannot and should not be sacked for drink driving UNLESS his job specifically requires him to hold a driving licence. I have to drive to do my work and would expect to be sacked if I could nit attend appointments through my own fault.

TBH those calling for Kean to be dismissed for the DD offence are wrong. If we are talking football that would be another discussion.

I think this poll and thread is at best unfortunate. I'm surprised it's been posted.

Kean could have pulled a real stunt there, knows that the window has only two weeks to go?? sly B******

I've worked with two people who were sacked for gross misconducted after drink driving, neither required a licence to do their job (though it made it much less convenient for them), I honestly believed it was the norm at most companies these days ?

This FOI request seems to agree that the Met sack people for drink driving offence http://www.met.police.uk/foi/pdfs/disclosure_2011/february/2011010000829.pdf (though is seems a few get by with a formal warning). I know there is a world of difference being employed by the met and by Rovers, but it was the first hard data I found.

If we're going to sack the manager, it should be for football reasons only.

In a way that is true but it isn't up to rovers to provide transport for him as 90% of people who work that got caught for drink driving would have to look for work near to home if they couldn't commute and Southend to ewood would take ages on the bus or train

666 Rovers forever

1. Why would they tell anyone at work? There is no need unless it appeared prominantly in the papers.

2. If I had a top salesman who earned me lots of money and brought in enough work to keep the company going and pay the bills as well and keeping prodn and admin staff employed then I'd get him a driver for work hours and split the cost. Alternatively if I had a salesmen who brought little to the party and who I wanted rid of......

Not true Glenn.

I know personally of Prison Officer's who got done for drink driving and were allowed to keep their jobs. Now,if they're allowed to keep incarcerated those sentenced to custody then I think a Football Manager has no issues in that regard.

This feels a bit like a witch-hunt and no doubt I'll get -56 for even suggesting it but it's just how I feel.

Having said that,it does appear that Kean's position is untenable if the strength of feeling on here is a true barometer of fans' feelings.

It just feels a bit 'wrong'...like one or two others have dared to suggest I'd prefer it to be a football decision only (and I know loads of people will say in that case he should go anyway),lets at least try and keep the two issues separate.

Judging by the mood on here though I'm sure glad I'm never going to be in front of the BRFCS bench for sentencing...
