He'll never resign. Have a look at his expression when he is on the sidelines, like a stoned bunny in the headlights. He must be pinching himself everyday. The only people in the world of football that thought Steve Kean would make a good manager is Venky's. McDonald would have been my shout, if we really had to promote from within, I was impressed by the games in which he took charge(the cup performance vs Chelsea was one of the best in years). I'm starting to believe the back stabbing rumours.

Are we definitely sure that Venky's aren't Dingles in disguise?

I have a slightly different take on this from many of you, having been banned [but only for 12, not 18, months] some 4 years ago by Macclesfield Magistrates for being over the drink-driving limit. The night I was arrested and spent in the cells [i was in my car on my own and was too ashamed to ring and ask someone to come and collect me] was, literally, the most shameful of my life and I went off work on long-term sick. The meant that, afaik, my employers were never actually told of my offence; and my contract with them was eventually ended on the grounds that neither my GP nor the doctor to whom they referred me could foresee me returning to work any time soon.

As I imply above, I'm not proud of what I did [and I've never got behind the wheel of a car since]; but the nearest I ever got to making a light-hearted remark about the whole business was that, if I'd had £5 for every person who, when I told them the circumstances, said something like "There but for the grace of god go most of us", I'd have had more than enough to pay my fine, the Court costs and all other expenses [legal advice before the hearing].

So, on balance, I don't think we should sack him on the grounds that he's been convicted of this offence. Having said that, I'd have been happier if he'd not made a laughing stock of himself [and by extension This Great Club Of Ours], by trying to find a loophole.

No; if we are going to sack him, it should definitely be for footballing reasons. And I think that there are more than enough of those. God knows, our squad was thin enough last season; trying to come up with a team for my contribution to the Wolves' preview thread, it felt even thinner.

And yesterday, a mere fortnight before the transfer window closes, we read on the club's website that 'Steve Kean is eager to add to his playing squad as soon as possible. ... "What we have to do is to get some players in to help the squad." '

Well, hello, Steve; welcome to the read world! How long has the transfer window been open? Oh, I remember now; a full close-season. And how many trips has he had to Venky's HQ during that close season: two?; three? Has he not been impressing on the owners on those trips the need, which was all too obvious to members of this Board, to enlarge and improve the squad ? If not, then, he's not a football manager; he's a coach, working with the players.

And if he did impress that need on the owners and they replied, "No sorry, Steve; we can't finance that sort of buying", then why did he not resign? Possibly for the same sort of reason that his original defence to his drink-driving charge was to try to evade responsibility for his actions.

Having said that, I think that the club is presently between a rock and a hard place. As others have pointed out on this thread, if we get rid of him now, then we've got to recruit a new manager with even less time for that new recruit to attract the sort of players he feels he could work with.

And that's the thought-process which leads me to vote, "other". I don't think he should be sacked because of the drink- driving conviction and I don't think that we have enough time to recruit a suitable replacement before the transfer window closes. However, if [god forbid] we have the same sort of start to the season that we had under Ince, then I just hope that someone will have the balls enough to do what John Williams did that December and replace someone who seems to be out of his depth.

To conclude, it seems distasteful to use on this particular thread the phrase I sometimes use on here to describe myself: "a glass-half-full man"; but that's what I am when it comes to Rovers. Having written all that I have in this post, I still feel that there's enough about the club to keep us in the Premier League.

SK can talk the talk, but not walk the walk. His excuses in court were as much of a fairy tale as his press releases. His one virtue from Venky's point of view is he is an excellent 'yes' man. No manager worth his salt would work for Venkys unless they dramatically change their approach to the Club and the team management. Despite the 2 results at the end of last season, SK's points performance, pro-rata, from December to May was the worst in the Premiership. He should have gone over the summer on football alone.

Sack... especially after he tried to blame the fans of the club that employs him with spiking his drink!! the man is unscrupulous and a down right liar (the liar bit borne out by him telling the police he hadn't had a drink when first pulled over).

C'mon trueblue don't hold that against him...it's probably the answer that most would give in that situation.

I'd have hoped for a more sensible judgement from someone in your position and maybe a little leniency too given your avatar and signature.

44 years old likes wine, likes beer but doesn't know what whisky tastes like or vodka.

Bull.

Champions league in four years, I'm starting to think he was making that up too lol

It's obvious. Loads of fans were there having their photos taken and getting autographs with him. Must have been Dingles.

Can't see a Burnley fan wanting Kean out. It's like us spiking John Bond's drink a couple of decades ago. Wouldn't happen would it?

There are 4 options not 3, and only the last one carries any relevence imo

i can count!! you have quoted my question but failed to answer ????

surely it can either be yes (for either reason) or no, what can the 'other' signify?

edit: I know Glenn has told us why the option is there but i just wondered if anybody who had actually voted 'other' could explain further?

:rover: if he was sacked for footballing reasons he could not argue, but i ask all you drivers out there hand on heart how many of you have driven over the limit, plenty of you. :brfc::wacko:

He is an ambassador for the club, a spokesperson for what Rovers are which is first and foremost A FAMILY FOOTBALL CLUB, not only that he sets the tone for how the players react in the public eye, lying to the police, making stories up to the judge and actualy drink driving.

I think it would be fair to dissmiss him on these grounds alone.

I can say with hand on my heart that I have driven over the limit, BUT only the DAY after consuming alcohol. It is absolutely a NO NO to drive a car after consuming both wine and a bud the same night! He is a rolemodel and a proffessional and therefore should be more vary about what he does. No excuses!

Glenn, why can't i + or - your posts?

It's a quirk of the software and not one on I'm fond of. I was also pilloried last night for strongly expressing my own opinion (rather than 'the sites' which is strictly neutral). So I many go back to using an alias for my own thoughts.

It's the web of bull he used to try to get out of it that I feel uncomfortable with

Do I think he should be sacked ? Yes probably.

Once fans turn against the manager there is no going back and he hasn't helped himself either with this DD charge.

Should he be sacked before a replacement is found ?

NO absolutely not. Why should the club suffer even more because of what Kean has done. Despite what people think of him I think it would do more damage if he was sacked and someone like Jensen was put in charge.

If (and this is a big IF because Venkys have known about this since May) he was going to get sacked Venkys must get someone in experienced before they sack him.

Could this court case be the simple reason why things are moving so slowly at our club? Maybe the owners dont want him to splash their cash as they have been advised that he is going to be convicted of drink driving.

Its just a thought Ive had since yesterday

Over 82% of fans wanting him out, I bet even Ince had a few more fans behind him than Kean. I don't see how he can possibly stay in the job now, even if we win a few games he'll struggle to change opinion. Someone please send a link to this poll to the venky boys, it's not like they're at Ewood every game so we can't voice opinion that way!
