[Archived] Ewood first timer

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, first timer to these boards. Dundee Utd fan but followed Rovers since the SAS days. Im coming down to Ewood next Sat for the game vs Everton, my first at Ewood but my second to see Rovers. Funnily enough, the first one was against Everton at Goodison a few years ago!

Anyway was wondering where is best to sit? We are fairly tight when it comes to money (aren't all Scots!!), tight as in skint this time tho! Obviously the Riverside Stand is coming in at £19 but will my Ewood experience be lost in there? Atmosphere, view, facilities etc etc? Dont want to come down and wish id paid the extra for the Jack Walker or Blackburn Stands.

Cheers for any help in advance!

PS Youve got a gem in Goodie!!!

Welcome to the site Arab.

If you want atmosphere, I recommend (under fear of wrath from BBEnders) the Darwen End. You will be closest to the away fans so it should make it more exciting.

Finest views are probably Jack Walker upper (but everyone has their favourite).

Old favourite is still the BBE.

And all this coming from a Riversider!!

Not necessarily but you wanted atmosphere. I like my seat though.

If you do go for the Riverside, make sure you aren't sat in what is classified as a "Restricted View". There are a number of stantions (sp?) holding up the roof and if you are sat behind one you'll know about it.

My seat isn't classed as restricted and even that has it's problems with those damn posts! (I've sat in the same seat for years now though so it can't be a massive problem!)

Watched my first match from the back of the Blackburn End Ronnie Clayton Lower on saturday and it was a dreadful view compared to the JW Upper Middle. If you want a good view treat yourself to that, if you want atmosphere I think Jisty's advice of Darwen End Lower might be good.

btw nothing wrong with the Riverside middle either apart from a stanchion or two and that they built it 5 yards too far away from the pitch. I cannot believe the thinking on that one. Whatever pea brain sanctioned that should be strung up under one of those stanchions.

Not necessarily just after atmosphere, just dinnae want to feel like im sitting in my usual seat at Tannadice, which is either quiet as a mouse of full of greeting face would be managers!! Think id rather be in with a full stand of Rovers than beside the away fans tbh. I take it the hardcore of Rovers fans are in the Blackburn End?

Im aware of the restricted view seats, definately wont be sitting in one of those!!

Cheers.

The Darwen end is a mixture of home and away fans (although segregated). Sorry if I didn't make that clear. You would be stood with Rovers fans, just across a row of stewards (and some empty) seats from the Everton lot.

Funnily enough, many of the hardcore Rovers fans have moved to the Darwen end in recent times, on account of the unreserved seating offered.

Up to you mate.

When I went on the Ewood ground tour, I was told the stand was built that way so an ambulance could drive along it in an emergency.

That will be handy for when it falls down very soon!

Hey, don't be saying that!

Given that the Ewood pitch is 69m wide and the maximum width allowed is 75m (or even 90m if we don't plan to host any International matches), we could just widen the pitch and fill in the gap!

If Mohammed can't come to the mountain...

Either Darwen End or 'RONNIE CLAYTON BLACKBURN END' Arab.....

Bring the bagpipes too!

Haha i aint no bagpipe player, but i could bring a set for you guys to try ur luck if u want!!

Out of interest does the team have a preferred end to shoot towards first/second half?

Why do u say either end, rather than the main or Riverside?

Better atmosphere in the ends than the Jack Walker I find.

Rovers shoot towards the Blackburn End/Ronnie Clayton in the second half.

blackburn end(although full) seems very quiet these days and full of kids(think it doubles as the family stand), darwen end is the most vocal and you get the good facilitys, riverside varies but there facilities are poor, jack walker stand offers the best views and facilities but lacks any atmosphere(its where most part time supporters sit).

What do you call hard core Jisty?

I'd call myself hardcore, approaching 50 years attending through thick and thin. I'd never move to the away end.

Probably the wrong term. I'm thinking of the groups of very vocal (mainly) lads who tend to congretate together and start the songs and chants.
