rog of the rovers Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 My recent viewings Noah - Don't bother - 3/10 Anchorman 2 - Ok, not as quotable as the first film, Very silly in parts, but watchable - 5/10 Gravity - Excellent - 9/10 Philomena - Tough watch at times, but a good film, great acting from Coogan and Dench. 7/10 Enemy Mine - An older film (80s) but under-rated, good message. 6/10 The Fisher King - Another older film. Different, but enjoyable, 7/10 Saving Mr Banks - Whimsical, good family movie, more good acting. 7/10 On the slate for the coming weeks The Butler 12 Years a Slave X Men: Days of Past Quote

I was sat there waiting for it to get going and then.............It finished For me, t'was total pants!(Superb CGI though. Could have actually been shot in space, it was so realistic) Quote
Backroom Tom Posted May 17, 2014 Backroom Posted May 17, 2014 Currently watching Aftershock after browsing the amazon prime horror section - if you come across it don't bother its crap Quote
RoyRover Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I went to Godzilla on Friday. Very disappointing. Quote
Nelsta Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 (edited) /\/\ not the first time i've heard it's(godzilla) dissapointing.Myself on the other hand bloody loved it.a solid 8/10 for me. Edited May 19, 2014 by Nelsta Quote
T.J.Newton Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 How does it compare to cloverfield or pacific rim, both great monster/disaster films in their own way(imo!) Quote
T.J.Newton Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Some really good action scenes in looper towards the end, but the film isnt half as clever as it thinks it is(or critics made it out to be) and im never going to believe gordon levit as a younger Willis(no matter how much make up they use) Quote
donnermeat Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 I quite enjoyed Looper, agree about the make up it looked a bit silly but they had to try something I suppose. Quote
Backroom Tom Posted May 20, 2014 Backroom Posted May 20, 2014 I saw it at the cinema and loved it, it was perfect for a braindead 90 minutes and the use of 3d was brilliant and had a gimmick that worked. I watched The Raid after and realised that the raid is the same concept but much much better mind. I didn't realise until recently that Mama was Cersei from game of thrones either Quote
gumboots Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 We watched White House down last night. so awful it was good for Friday night entertainment. all I need on Fridays is something to relax me after a tiring week at work. If I were taking over the world or whatever though I'd make damn sure my footsoldiers could hit a slowmoving target at 10 feet. Baddies are always such awful shots 1 Quote
Paul Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 (edited) Our film club choice for March was "What We Did On Our Holiday" written by Andy Hamilton and starring David Tennant, Billy Connolly, Rosamund Pike, Celia Imrie, Ben Miller and Emilia Jones. Quite brilliant and hugely entertaining. Edited March 31, 2015 by Paul Quote
ABBEY Posted April 6, 2015 Author Posted April 6, 2015 We watched The Guest over the weekend . A very good thriller . We had no idea what it was about snd best way to watch it . Pretty good . Quote
donnermeat Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 We watched The Guest over the weekend . A very good thriller . We had no idea what it was about snd best way to watch it . Pretty good . I've seen that, really good indie film. The soundtrack was superb. Quote
Stuart Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Bit of a bonkers ending. I thought it was brilliant until then. Quote
donnermeat Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 The guys who did that did another similar throwback to the 80's style film called 'You're Next', which I plan on watching off the back of this one. Quote
adopted scouser Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Watched Last Knights yesterday. Not good at all. Quote
Backroom Tom Posted April 6, 2015 Backroom Posted April 6, 2015 (edited) Will look The Guest up, loved You're Next. Just seen The Raid 2 is now on Netflix so that's being watched soon Edited April 6, 2015 by Tom M Quote
otto man Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 "Stretch" is one we watched last night. Entertaining movie. Made by the same people who did "We're the Millers"(I think). Definite "Friday night beer and pizza" movie. (Yeah I know. We watched it on Sunday!) Quote
T J Hooker Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 (edited) I watched nightcrawler yesterday(yea I know perfect Easter viewing ) have to say I was expecting better, the acting was very good(if a little ott) and it was really well shot but I thought the plot was very predictable and a bit mediocre. I think Ill finally get around to watching interstellar for the 1st time later, my expectations are fairley low as on the whole, but nolans films are still usually entertaining and look great however many plot holes and flaws they all have. Edited April 6, 2015 by I.must.be.batty Quote
otto man Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I loved "Nightcrawler Dave. Thought it was a top movie, but "Intersteller"?...meh! Quote
T J Hooker Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 (edited) John wick kicks serious ass, the film was really good fun aswell, it doesnt take itself as seriously as other films of its type(taken, etc...) And it definitely doesnt hold back on the violence. Edited April 6, 2015 by I.must.be.batty Quote
broadsword Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 (edited) Raid 2 was epic, maybe the best action film I've ever seen. 71 was a good thriller, great action and holds your attention. A British soldier becomes separated from his unit in northern Ireland at the height of the troubles. Sleepless night, great action film that had some twists in the tail, Keeps you interested right until the end. A cop steals a drug lord's cache of merchandise and in return the drug Lord kidnaps the cop's son. Well worth the watch. Fury, brad Pitt world war two tank epic as they go behind enemy lines trying to push back desperate German rearguard. Wasn't expecting the awesome ending which was pure win. District thirteen, free running stunts on steroids with no wires or CGI. Story takes a backseat but the action kicks so much ass you won't care. lavender hill mob. Found it hysterically funny, a real treat Edited April 6, 2015 by broadsword Quote
rog of the rovers Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Watched Interstellar over Easter....hmmm I can't decide whether it was a tour de force or a bit of a let down? I suppose you can't argue with the ambition of the project, the scale of the set pieces and the thought provoking scientific parts, but was the storyline a bit of a stretch to far? Intrigued to know what others thought. Quote
