A cup of beans Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 As a Bond fanatic, i'm usually really critical. Hated Skyfall. But SPECTRE is incredible I smiled from the 1st minute til the last. I wasn't expecting it to be this wonderful. Quote

Mattyblue Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Went last night, classic Bond really. No pis$ing about- fast cars, women, gadgets. Nice nod to the back catalogue with the SPECTRE organisation. Daniel Craig is really in his element now, ridiculously OTT at times, but he does it all with a knowing smirk. Quote
BiggusLaddus Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Watched Spectre last weekend, thought it was terrible. Quote

T J Hooker Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 (edited) I really don't get what all the fuss is about recent bond films, they're just throwaway action films, nothing more nothing less, aside from some nice cinematography and action scenes they have nothing else to offer and the last couple of films have just been more like tribute movies to the earlier connery/moore films. Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted November 7, 2015 Moderation Lead Posted November 7, 2015 Seen all of them bar the ones with Daniel Craig. You'll never beat Sean Connery as Bond imo. Quote
Backroom Mike E Posted November 7, 2015 Backroom Posted November 7, 2015 Seen all of them bar the ones with Daniel Craig. You'll never beat Sean Connery as Bond imo. Particularly with Casino Royale and Spectre, you're missing out. He's not Connery but he's hit the spot in Spectre imo. He's a proper Bond in this one. Cool, suave, doesn't give a @#/? 1 Quote
BiggusLaddus Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Casino Royale was excellent. Spectre felt like I was watching the longest advert I'd ever seen. Not because of the product placements, just the feel of the film. There was a bond themed martini ad before the film started (bond escaping from bad guys, hot girl accidentally swept along while water skiing, etc), which was just making fun of all old the bond clichés. Right from the very first scene the film felt just like that martini ad. 1 Quote
tomphil Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 (edited) Funny how peoples opinions differ on the Bond films. Love the old ones of Connery and Moore as most do and I even thought the Lazenby one was good. Never watched all of the others with Dalton, all 80's films were a bit cheesy, Brosnan a bit too flash for me but some great casting and acting of villians. Then I thought the Craig bond is excellent with it's dark edge but wasn't overly mad about Spectre as I think it's going away from that now. Nevertheless it is a good film in patches. Prob a good one for him to bow out on really as I don't want to see him trying to be a Brosnan type but in what are increasingly becoming action movies. He suits the ruff, raw edge stuff better for me and I think they had more way to go with that type of character. Edited November 26, 2015 by tomphil Quote
T J Hooker Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 I wish the broccolis would just let go of the reigns(as Lucas did with starwars) and just let quality film-makers go back and do proper mature adaptions of the original novels, real spy movies(not silly overblown unoriginal action movies) I think the Bourne films(there's a new one being made with Damon&Greengrass back) and the MI films are superior to the modern bond films(in both the action and spy departments) Quote
tomphil Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 Agree with that TJ get it back to being more Bond less Bourne although some would say Bourne is the Yank take on Bond. They must however keep the actor who plays Bond British. Once Hollywood grabs it it'll become a farce and just a vehicle to promote the latest American poster boy ! Quote

Steve Moss Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 Star Wars was incredible Pretty safe but they nailed it Watched it last night. My kids loved it. I confess a preference for the original 3 episodes, but that's me being a cranky old man and thinking my generation's way is the only way. Quote
T J Hooker Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 (edited) Theres is a capt phasma aperently, Ive not seen it yet, i am a big fan of starwars but I'm waiting for all this pathetic fuss around it to die down first, it makes me cringe seeing adults act like children and getting all giddy over a popcorn movie(light entertainment) Edited December 19, 2015 by T J Hooker Quote

adopted scouser Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 Star Wars was good but just a remake of episode IV. Watching Creed, can't take my eyes off it 1 Quote
Paul Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 First film my now wife and I saw together was Star Wars. Went tonight, I thought the script might have changed in 38 years. My lad loved it so mission accomplished. We'll be back at the Reebok tomorrow when I hope the force will be with us. Quote
Audax Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 (edited) I've really liked "Joyeux Noel Happy Christmas" since it first came out in 2005; I don't agree with all of the slants of the movie but find more positives and on top of that, the aerial photography starting at about 2:30 seconds stays with me, aerial film of the UK. I was surprised to find the whole movie on youtube and for all we know, it could be taken down, other parts of the movie have. A good Christmas film. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JukKmy40pm4 Edited December 28, 2015 by Audax Quote

Stuart Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 All this bitching about Star Wars being a remake is starting to grate. A bit of excitement and hype and everyone thinks they're Barry Norman. I thought it was a fantastic, true to the original trilogy, and a very fitting way to hand over the franchise to the next generation. If you want something to bellyache over go and watch Episode 1. 1 Quote
