Cant wait till I come accross to see Rovers v West Ham at the weekend I am going to see if I can pick these up on those new fangled video cassette thingys They are called "Beta" Found a GREAT British film and seeing how I love horror was quite embarrassed I never picked it up before Dog Soldiers Was a bit weird though because they were all part of the Scottish Division yet the biggest football game in their life was England V Germany? Flopsy Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 Dog Soldiers is a great film, acted like proper squadies too "You board up those windows. You sort out defending upstairs. You stick the kettle on I need a brew" Quote
Rovermatt Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Dog Soldiers is a great film, acted like proper squadies too "You board up those windows. You sort out defending upstairs. You stick the kettle on I need a brew" Dog Soldiers is good but not a patch on The Descent. I saw Ghost Rider last week. I have to say I thought it was crap. Absolute rubbish. Quote
neekoy Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 (edited) Nicholas Cage is crap, I cannot say I have seen a decent acting job of his that involves him as the main character, unless he has great supporting actors or people to share his limelight he is woeful. Edited March 14, 2007 by neekoy Quote
Ronin Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 I'm currently on holiday in the US and went to see 300 last night. It is absolutely mind-blowing. It's about as deep as a conversation with Robbie Savage but that's really a negative that should be levelled at the graphic novel rather than the film based on it. That is one film I definitely want to see, since seeing the trailers. I'm a fan of Frank Miller's work (loved Sin City, looking forward to the next movie installment) and like some of the decent comic to movie translations. Alan Moore's stuff I like too. V for Vendetta is good and looking forward to The Watchmen, seeing as it's the same director as 300. Quote

That's a pretty narrow criteria - almost a one man show. For what they are, I enjoy; Raising Arizona, Snake Eyes, Con Air, The Rock and National Treasure. Each to their own I suppose. Quote
broadsword Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 I think Wild at Heart is a wicked movie, he's fine in that. As well as The Rock. (I haven't seen Raising Arizona and didn't really like Snake Eyes). He just plays the same character in each film, as far as I can see. I don't think he has any Shakesperian pretensions, but who gives a toss, the films are fun. Quote
JC4LAB Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 My a favourite film is Revenge of Billy the Kid..lots of Dingle types being hunted down by a mad goat..One for the Away travel coach if we go to the cup final Quote

FourLaneBlue Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Nicholas Cage is crap, I cannot say I have seen a decent acting job of his that involves him as the main character, unless he has great supporting actors or people to share his limelight he is woeful. His earlier films tend to be better than the more recent. Cage was excellent in Leaving Las Vegas and rightly received an Oscar. Quote
JC4LAB Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 The women seem to love him..Nichloas Cage face is everywhere in our office including on the computer screensavers...I've no understanding whatsover of what woman see as attractive Quote

What a let down, like watching a two hour pop video. Some of the fight scenes are OK but get a bit samey, it gets boring very quickly. Leonidas meets Xerxes is a sort of highland laird meeting a gangsta pimp, then to cap it all off Ephialtes does his best impression of Quark from Deep space nine. Blood, slo-mo, blood slo-mo, blood, slo-mo, irritating. Quote
Flopsy Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 bah, i bet you didnt like Sin City because it was in black and white Quote

adopted scouser Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Do you like history themed epics or Graphic novels?if the answer is no then thats probably the reason why you dont like 300 I know what a graphic novel is, and thought 'Sin City' was a laugh but the level of expectation for 300 resulted in nothing more than a frown. Add to the points I've already made Lena Headey approaching the senate with all the acting skills of Patsy Palmer, and *drum roll* the closing credits are to the theme from Gladiator FFS. If you're a crusty who collects rare comics then you'll have a hard on for two hours, but this one's not for me, sorry. Quote

Jimbo Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 Nice to see the Iranian government's take on 300 as an insult to Islam ??? Quote

neekoy Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 (edited) I also enjoyed National Treasure, although I haven't met many people who have. And it's you people who keep this clown in a job I will give him Leaving Las Vegas because that is the only character he can play Don't get me wrong, I love some flicks with him in them The Rock, Face Off, Lord of War, Con Air but ALL with extremely strong supporting casts Get him running the show and providing the drama and poise on screen and you end up with National Treasure, Bringing Out the Dead, The Family Man, The Weather Man, Wind talkers and Ghost Rider.......... ugh!! Edited March 17, 2007 by neekoy Quote
Shevchenko Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 I haven't seen Ghost Rider yet (probably will...since its a comics film) and although I'm no Nick Cage fan, I reckon you can't blame the crapness on him this time. Mark Steven Johnson made the film. He also made Daredevil. I can not understand how they gave that man more money and let him make another adaption of a Marvel character after Daredevil. It defies all logic. Quote
accyrover Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Casino Royale was by far and away the best film I've seen in the last 12 months, if not the last 12 years ! Other faves of mine are (in no particular order) :- The Hunt For Red October, Constantine, Layer Cake, Snatch, Pirates of the Carribean (Dead Man's Chest) and The Hitchhikers Guide To the Galaxy.
