FourLaneBlue Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 Hoping to watch 'The Departed' this weekend...it has been getting superb reviews. Quote
Radagast Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 I saw Children of Men yesterday. Breathtaking. Hoping to see The Departed before too long. Quote
Ozz Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 I saw Children of Men yesterday. Breathtaking. Really? Didn't look like it could be breathtaking in the reviews and trailers, but I fancy going. Quote
Radagast Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 It was very good, if a little confused. There are three particular sequences, all filmed in one take each, that are worth going for alone. Quote
Rovermatt Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Saw The Departed earlier. It's absolutely pulse-pounding stuff, Scorcese at his very best. If no Oscars spring from it then I'll be very surprised. The best line belongs to the superb Alec Baldwin: "Patriot Act! Patriot Act! I love it!" Quote
FourLaneBlue Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Yes, also went to see it last night and it's excellent film with a lot of twists at the end. Nicholson is unsurprisingly good in it but so too is DiCaprio who gives a great performance. There are some aspects that don't seem to make too much sense when thinking about it afterwards but all in all, recommended. Plenty of red herrings too Quote
blue phil Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 It's about time Scorses came up with something decent - it's been too long for a man of his talents . That is , if your review is correct , Matt Quote
Flopsy Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 well he has a hell of a lot to answer for after "Gangs of new york" Quote
Rovermatt Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Gangs of New York was so bad that it hurt. The Aviator was good but this is something else entirely. Quote
adopted scouser Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 (edited) Gangs of New York was so bad that it hurt. The Aviator was good but this is something else entirely. Agreed Matt, got the Aviator soundtrack in the car. I haven't seen the Departed yet, but by all acounts it's a refreshing blast away from all the dross that's out at the moment. Took the girls to see 'Devil Wears Prada' yesterday, they're getting too old for 'Hoodwinked', it was OK I suppose. Oh well, nearly Nov 17th - Bond and Dec 1st - Flushed Away. If you're thinking of watching Flushed Away on the opening weekend It might be a good idea to start booking now ! Edited October 8, 2006 by adopted scouser Quote
blue phil Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 well he has a hell of a lot to answer for after "Gangs of new york" It was a let down . Even Daniel Day Lewis couldn't save that one Quote
Flopsy Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 I wasnt to upset till the end fight. I'd sat down through three hours waiting for this fantastic big fight and bam - blink and its over. I felt used Also am I the only one to think that Taxi Driver isnt as good as the majority says it is? I like it a lot, but one of the greatest ever? Quote
neekoy Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 I didn't rate Taxi Driver that much. I suppose for it's day it dealt with drugs, violence, kiddy porn so it was probably a very powerful image to those not used to seeing it everyday on the news. If it didn't have the DeNiro scene then I don't think it would have sat up there for so long. Also I thought that Gangs of New York was excellent. Quote
Biddy Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 Watched "Click" last night. Not bad for a couple of hours of cinema. Nothing groundbreaking or hasn't been done before but still good fun. Also Kate Beckinsale is lovely Quote
Ronin Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 A new and improved trailer for 300 can be seen here. Frankly, it looks awesome. Definitely on my list of films to see. Shame it's not til next year though. Quote
speeeeeeedie Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 The Departed was excellent. I recommend it. There was also a trailer for 300; that one doesn't look to be my cup of tea. I also liked Gangs of New York. Quote
Nelsta Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 Gotta say 300 looks awsome. For those intrested check out http://www.myspace.com/ephialtesbornofsparta Some trailers and general info Quote

Flopsy Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 anyone seen V for Vendetta? (im looking for a DVD for tonight) Quote
Rovermatt Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 It's good. Though don't expect much action. It's nothing like The Matrix in spite of the obvious connections. Quote
Radagast Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 It's good. Though don't expect much action. It's nothing like The Matrix in spite of the obvious connections. Yeah, it was a lot better for one thing. Quote
The Dart Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 Hey now, I consider "The Matrix" a gem of our time. The sequels however are trash. Quote
Cocker Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 Hey now, I consider "The Matrix" a gem of our time. The sequels however are trash. I dont want to open another Matrix debate but I liked the sequels Quote
Rovermatt Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 Me too. Very much. V for Vendetta is good but not a patch on The Matrix. Quote
