SouthAussieRover Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 The product placement in the last film was outrageous. Sony Vaio, Sony Ericsson (the model I own in fact), Ford, Omega, Aston Martin all made an appearances. The film still managed to kick ass. I wouldn't worry. Even Richard Branson made a cameo appearance apparently on the basis he lent the producers/filmakers a plane at short notice. Quote

Not sure what you mean: "non make", maybe it was the police car at the airport? Quote

" "No Omega" Kerrrrchhhing also if you watch Casino Royal, check the cars, there's only one non make of car that wasnt owned by Ford, anyone know which one it was? I think Ford has sold both Aston Martin and Jaguar to venture capitalist firms. I don't know whether they had changed hands when the film was made. I agree with the product placement point though-it does suck. The later Brosnan films were terrible for that. Quote
broadsword Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 The later Brosnan films were just terrible full-stop. He only did one decent one and that was his first film. Not necessarily his fault though, the scripts were just plain awful. And John Cleese in a Bond film? No. Quote
Billy Castell Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 I agree, that Arctic one with the godawful Madonna tune was dire. Bond became a generic action film during Brosnan's time. As for Cleese, I can't help thinking he's going to go off on one like at the end of Clockwork. Bond shoud be a dark, quite unpleasant character with psychological problems and not some international shag star. Quote
broadsword Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 That was one of the worst Bond films ever, easily. Right up there with "View to a Kill". Quote
American Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Hold you tongue! I loved View to a Kill! Quote
Billy Castell Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Goldeneye was good, but I have to say all the Roger Moore films I've seen were pants. Anyway, I wonder which will come first, the Red Dwarf film, or the Guns n Roses Chines Democracy album? Last I heard of the former was that one of the writers was still trying to get people to fund it a few years ago. God knows about the latter. Quote
Nelsta Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Red Dwarf is dead in the water i'm affraid.Trouble funding. It's just never gonna happen. Quote
Billy Castell Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 I think its been too long since the TV programme anyway. And You'd have to have the very irritating Kochanski character that ruined the last couple of series. Shame, as it may have worked, unlike the Simpson's Movie. Quote

Films like Pineapple Express can find funding year after year, but something like a Red Dwarf movie can't? Insane. I think if they gassed people when they were in theatre to watch Pineapple Express the world would be a much finer place... (P.S. what's happened to the 'hiding' smilie?) Flopsy Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 back to product placement - Jag and Aston were still owned by Ford at the time. I might be wrong but the only non ford brand I saw in the film was two police Skoda's that turn up to arrest the police chief in the market square outside the Casino. Moonraker is patently the greatest Bond Film. "Bond, what do you think you're doing?" "I think he's attempting re-entry Sir" Quote

Whilst I've not seen Pineapple Express, I agree with your point. If crap comedy films like Evan Almighty, those ones with LL Cool J (or was it Ice Cube?), or other films that are just rubbish like Mamma Mia can be funded, surely a Red Dwarf film should get some money. It may not work as a film, but who knows? Quote
Nelsta Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 It does make you wonder what goes on inside a studio execs head. Least we get the comedic genius of Meet The Spartans Quote
Billy Castell Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 There's a new ____ movie called Disaster Movie that's opened. It looked as funny as finding out you have AIDS. How that crap can be made, let alone watched by anyone is beyond me. That reminds me, I have to see if I can download the last Mark Kermode review from Radio 5. Quote
Flopsy Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 he was blowing a gasket about Rockanrolla if I remember rightly. bless Quote
Billy Castell Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 I love the arguments between them. Mayo would say something like "Film X is quite good, I think it is better than film Y." which Kermode responds with a rant about how Mayo is wrong, and Film Y is a masterpiece. Quote

How that crap can be made, let alone watched by anyone is beyond me. That reminds me, I have to see if I can download the last Mark Kermode review from Radio 5. Those films keeping getting greenlit because countless people flock to see them and come away proclaiming them the funniest thing they've ever seen. They make lots of money. Studios would be mad to stop producing them. I saw the trailer for Disaster Movie the other day and was unsurprised to find that the gags simply focus on people dressing like the characters in other films (Hancock, Iron Man and, for some reason, Juno) and peddling risible 'jokes' that a toddler would roll its eyes at. The movies being sent up are extremely recent releases, suggesting that this 'spoof' sh*t is being churned out at a rate of knots. And you can't half tell, most of it looks like it has been put together by some failing film students. Oh wait... Edited September 11, 2008 by Rovermatt Quote
Billy Castell Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 It's proof that the masses are indeed idiots Rovermatt. It would be daft to stop, as it makes loads of money like you say. What I find so crushing is the fact that these films involve one or more of the Zuckers who made such great films as Airplane, Naked Gun and the TV series Police Squad. As Mark Kermode said, people should not see Disaster Movie as it will only encourage them to make more. Just listened to the good doctor on the BBC Iplayer, and his review of Rock 'n' Rolla is worth listening to. has anyone else seen Wag the Dog? That is a very entertaining satire about the US elections. Quote
