Sandiway Blue Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Thought I would give that a go and I am surprised how few I had seen of the top 250 and indeed how many I have no intention of ever watching! :-) Me as well, only seen 79... Blade Runner is not on that list but the Borne Ultimatum is? WTF?!?! Number 114... Quote

broadsword Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Wow ... you've not seen V for Vendetta Glenn? Would've thought that was right up your street. And Full Metal Jacket as well. That film is just pure brilliant. "You better start ****ing me tiffany cuff-links Pyle, or I will most definitely **** you up!" Quote

I may have seen Full Metal Jacket, but I'm unsure enough to watch it again, and no never seen V for Vendetta even though it *is* right up my street. Quote
rebelmswar Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Number 114... Thank you for helping me make an ass out of myself. And Full Metal Jacket as well. That film is just pure brilliant. "You better start ****ing me tiffany cuff-links Pyle, or I will most definitely **** you up!" "Did your mother have any children that lived?" "Sir yes sir" "I bet they regret that. Your so ugly you could be a modern art masterpiece" I've been having fun playing with http://www.framerater.co.uk It tracks which of imdb's top 250 films you and your friends have seen. I'm on there as tilt (and this evenings tick off the list will be scarface). How do I peruse the movies you have seen? Quote

broadsword Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 "Did your mother have any children that lived?" "Sir yes sir" "I bet they regret that. Your so ugly you could be a modern art masterpiece" The whole film's one great big quoteable line. "Is that you John Wayne? Is this me?" Quote
rebelmswar Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Type tilt under Search For Users Okay thanks for that I see your list now, Children of Men should go close to top of your list also. I thought that was a heady and rather well put together movie, of course the book was deeper. I have only seen 108 of them, I was sure it would be higher. The whole film's one great big quoteable line. "Is that you John Wayne? Is this me?" You are quite correct. That line holds special love for me though as it was used against me in boot camp. It sucked as I knew what was coming but still had to say "Yes Petty Officer!" As well as the famous cadence. "I don't know but I've been told, Eskimo P%^&@y is mighty cold." Quote

American Rover12 Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 (edited) registered for this as i'm usually the friend of my group who has never seen anything good. Was surprised to see that I had seen 47 films on the top 250, a pretty good number for me. Neat site that I'll def use again to help guide and watch some new, quality stuff. Also, on V for Vendetta. I know this isn't everyone's opinion but it is my favorite movie ever. I could watch it all day every day. Recommend it to anyone. adopted scouser Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 The whole film's one great big quoteable line. "Is that you John Wayne? Is this me?" I bet you're the kind of guy that would f*** a person in the ass and not even have the goddamn common courtesy to give him a reach-around. I'll be watching you. Apparently when Hartman came out with that line it was an ad lib, not even in the script, they had to stop filming as the place fell apart. Quote
T4E Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 http://www.empireonline.com/100-greatest-movie-characters/ A good fun read - thoughts on the list? Quote

American Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Getting on this Framerater now as ChuckBudd 38 of top 50 and 62 of top 100 so far. Quote
DeadlyDirk Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Anyone else seen 'Felon', very good prison based film, would reccommend it to anyone who is a fan of prison films or just violent drama's in general. Got around to watching 'Eastern Promises' as well, another good film. Quote
Backroom Tom Posted September 30, 2009 Backroom Posted September 30, 2009 Wow I've only seen 70 of 250, a few of them I have seen but can't remember so not ticked them Quote
rebelmswar Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 http://www.empireonline.com/100-greatest-movie-characters/ A good fun read - thoughts on the list? Don't with some of it. Buzz Lightyear? But I am happy to see that many of my favorites are on there. Don't know about No.1 though, if the criteria were for messed up sociopaths, Jack for the Shining gets that every day. It was such a strange mix of characters but most verged into the violent genre. Mel's character is worthy of more than #100 don't you think? And where was Kurt's classic from Big Trouble in Little China? Quote
T4E Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 I'm not sure how the list was put together, public vote or committee. Funnily enough The Shining was on Sky Movies today, had never seen it so I watched it. Brilliant. I never realised that the avatar someone has on here of the boy with his head in his hands is from that movie. Tyler Durden is a superb character, massively memorable and as such probably has a place high on the list. I'm a bit of a cheesy movie fan, so would have liked to see Rocky and John McClane higher up the list. Quote
neekoy Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Tyler Durden and Hans Gruber? Seriously? 98 was Charles Foster Kane? Yoda higher then Jack Sparrow or The Dude? ET at 74? No Dorothy Micheals, Tony Manero, Jake LaMotta, Harry Lime, Oskar Schindler, Tommy DeVito, Blondie or Harry Callahan? Fan boy jerk off list. Quote

Jake LaMotta isn't a movie character. Quote

Fair enough on LaMotta and Schindler then, I didn't see Callahan first time round.... What about Brian Cohen, Begby, The Princess Bride, Ann Darrow or Major Reisman I don't want to be too harsh here there are some very memorable characters in film but Donnie Darko, Martin Blank, Jack Dawson and Marge Gunderson...please in the top 100 Quote
Glenn Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Well. I've recently ticked off two "I can't believe you've never seen" films from Frametracker in the last couple of days. Tax Driver I thought was awesome and wished I'd seen years ago. Dark, broody, gripping, loved it. Scarface on the other hand was a badly paced, overly long, shot em up with no real plot. Pacino's performance is excellent, but it's tied around something much poorer than it's cult following would leave you to believe. Casino, Goodfellas, La Confidential, Untouchables, the list of better gangster movies is pretty long. The one upside is I now recognize a lot of the references in GTA:Vice City. I think next up will be Wall-E (because it's the only one left that I haven't seen, but I own). Quote
rebelmswar Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Scathing Callaghan was on the list though. Jake LaMotta isn't a movie character. I know where he is coming from though, as I still can not get over Buzz Lightyear. Hans Gruber did make that movie though, if it was anyone other than Bruce Willis being the star, Rickman might well have stolen the whole thing. I think his portrayal of The Sheriff of Nottingham in "Robin Prince of Thieves" is worthy of a mention, as it was pretty much the movies only saving grace. Quote

Hans Gruber was great I just can't get over him being in the top 20 FFS. I know I sound like I am getting worked up over this a little too much but it just annoys me when fanboys flood the voting on these kinds of things. Quote
