Kean or someone else?

  1. 1. Simple really, who do fans want as Manager, should we sack Kean and get someone new?

    • Stick with Kean till 8-10 games in
    • Mark Hughes
    • Martin O'Neill
    • David Moyes
    • Rafa Benitez
    • Ancelotti
    • Bob Bradley
    • Tugay/ Shearer/ Hendry/ Flitcroft/ Grayson or some combination
    • Alan Curbishley
    • Ranieri
    • Dave Jones

You didn't think that when we sacked Sam, Gav.

Suppose that was different.

We hadn't just sacked a manager 9 months previous den, big difference, but don't let that stop you :P

Teams that continually sack the manager inevitably end up in the mire philipl, so I’m not surprised some people are saying stick. This coupled with the fact he’s about to bring in 3 more players, in any other circumstance it would be madness to sack him.

Some clubs stick with a no hoper and finish bottom of the table- exhibit a)- West Ham.

From reading between the lines, it looks like Kean has a fairly strong bond with Raos and he talks with them regularly. Also I am sure he would have highlighted it is only 2 games in to the new season, we have had key injuries, and players will be joining soon which should add quality to the team/squad (these are all fair points)

Whilst I have little/no time for Kean, due to a few reasons, I don’t necessarily think sacking him right now would be a logical decision – he did show some very faint hope that he could get the team performing at the later end of last season (this shows he is not as bad a manager as some make out even though his results record is appalling).

That said, if I was the owners, I would also be sounding out potential replacements at the moment because a few more bad results then surely his position will become untenable – as I have said previously, if there was to be a managerial appointment, who would Venky’s turn to for guidance? Can they afford to change the manager?

I have read people saying that anyone is better than Kean, however we still want a decent manager being appointed if a change needs to take place. The season is still very early, no need for all out panic, yet.

Souness left just as he was about to get the sack, Ince was sacked and Sam was sacked.

I knew it would be different sacking Sam though.

Gav, I guarrantee you that I wouuld be a better mnager of Rovers than Steve Kean.

Incidentally, Roy Hodgson's record as boos of Rovers the day he was sacked was W22, D18, L18.

Kean would never achieve that if you gave him all the time since the Big Bang.

Was it the manager or the players who stepped up last season? Personally, I think the players with manager having a hand in motivation (you only have to listen to him talk to now)

When is the time for 'all out panic'? I can see how people who are against a sacking would want to wait awhile longer as we are only 2 games in but surely if the club were to wait and see and things did not improve (evidence for this is managers track record) wouldn't that leave us with even less time to change.

Difficult decision but one which our late benifactor would not of stood for.

Kean Out

I voted for Mark Hughes. He is just the type of manager we need at rovers.

Did great in his first spell as manager. Just hope he would come back to rovers whether he will is a different thing tho

Brilliant manager Hughes, but I don.t think I could welcome him back,as he couldn't wait to get away to a "big club" and he's done the same at Fulham, hoping for the Villa job,and seriously do you think he or MON would work under the Venkys,it doesn't matter what anyone thinks or protests he aint going anywhere untill at least the first 12 games,I still think if Samba stays and he brings in a couple of decent strikers we can have a good season, keep the faith COYB..............

I don't disagree philipl, but I can understand why some would support sticking with Kean, as continually changing managers is never a good thing.

Keep him until he has recruited all the new players then stab him in the back and sack him on 1st September, just like he backstabbed Sam. He can then take his compo. and his airmiles and have a long holiday.

We haven't had a manager for 9 months, we should probably get one soon really Gav, unfortunately the calibre we would be able to attract would be very poor due to the catastrophe that is BRFC at the moment.

No self respecting manager wants to be controlled by those berks! Never mind fly to bloody India for a chat every fortnight.

Kean will take us down. Just as Ince would have done if he had not been sacked when he was!

Agreed but back then we had a top man Williams but now we only have a go between the chicken farmers and the club so will they make a change? I don't think so, not yet anyway. :(

Personally I can't see them sacking Kean, not until its too late at least. And as i mentioned, who would take over this sinking ship?

There is no way Kean will leave before the window closes

Personally I don't care about the league cup at all.

We need 3 points against Everton. Which will be difficult as Everton are a good team had a wobble against QPR and will no doubt be fired up to play a very week Rovers team.

Who knows we may need this after sunday....just hope that when/ IF the owners pot Kean they dont replace him with a numpty like Jensen or Dave Jones.

We have to go for a big name, someone who has respect and can get exciting talent to sign for us.

That is a really worrying thing!

They could be stupid enough to do this, cause theyve already done it with Kean!

Lets hope they could tempt either Hughes, O'Neill or maybe Benitez.

They could promise them cash to spend, which is what every manager would listen to. They have already spend some cash (not a lot I know), but maybe they think a bit long term instead of just splashing all the cash at once. Not a bad idea to save some of it, though they should have spent some of it on a quality striker!

They could give the "new manager" a healthy wage, money talks you know. And as I said, promising funds available to the new manager is always a good thing.

As of Hughes coming back. Why not? Its not like he can just walk into a big club right now. He needs to build himself up again at this point, and why not try with us? He knows the club (whats left of it anyway  ).

Let me put it this way: Santa Cruz came back earlier this year. On a loan though, but still, he came back and he seemed delighted to come back.

I dont think Hughes coming back would be such a massive shock really.

I would be extremely delighted if it happened, and I hope Venkys know that this is what the fans want the most. That has to count for something!

Why the eck do people think Mark Hughes, very much a head strong character, would come back and work for this lot is beyond me.

Indeed. There are a number of reasons Hughes won't come back:

1. Left Fulham because he wanted a bigger club that could finish higher up the table than 8th.

2. Suffered quite a bit of abuse and taunting on his return with City, fans that always do this seem to assume it'll just be forgotten about, with someone like Hughes I doubt it has.

3. Why would he want to work for owners with an already poor reputation who are inflexible to strong personalities?

4. By the looks of things so far would have a smaller transfer budget than he had at Fulham.

5. Going back is seen by many professionals as an admission of defeat, Hughes would probably rather manage another club on equal standing to Rovers than actually manage Rovers.

This desperate hope that Hughes will return is like some homeless kid expecting Santa Claus to arrive, massive shame but honestly there's almost no chance of it happening.

'Other' option removed for those who sat on the fence......

About time you made your choice on who you want as a replacement - saying "Anyone but Kean" isnt good enough - do you really want John Jensen? Or Dave Jones?

We don't know who is available Hughesy. Pretty much anyone would be better than our coach. I can't see Jensen getting it as the fan backlash would be huge, but Dave Jones would do a better job than Kean.

A good solid manager Imo would be Moyes. He has a good eye for talent,is used to working for the smaller club and I think would give us back that consistancy that we need. As much as I admire Hughes as a manager I think the trust wouldn`t be there if he came back,it would always be a worry that he`d be off at the first bigger opportunity that came along. With Moyes (if we could get him)you`d be sure the guy would be with us through thick and thin and be able to get the best out of our squad. The guy has stuck with Everton and got excellent results with really limited resources,I should imagine he could really get us moving in the right direction with just his tactical and organisational skills.
