[Archived] Henry Winter Article in the DT

Thing is, he cites Jason Roberts in that article as one of our 'old pro's' who we should be feeling sorry for, yet, according to his tweets and numerous interviews, he seems blissfully unaware that the perception of our club has changed for the worse. He comes across as a clever chap, yet refuses to say anything negative about the situation. All of those players mentioned happily made complete arses of themselves for an advert, for the same employers who are supposedly, making their club look bad. So, which side of the fence are they really on?

Roberts is 100% pro Kean and Pro Venkys he was never going to get a new contract under BFS. Yet has now and of course he is is quiet happy about this. Maybe someone should ask him if he thinks its acceptable for a EPL striker to score a goal every 5.25 games?

Somebody did and got deleted/blocked from viewing his twitter feed!

To be fair, Cryer may well be pro rovers and anti venkys but his job is to report on Rovers. He cannot do that if he cuts off his food supply can he.

He also has the issue that anything he sends to print without 110% proof is likely to end the LT with a Libel case. like i said, he has confirmed that he is aware of a lot of the things that Glen mentioned in his blog but would be career suicide to take it to print as there is no "hard" evidence in his possession.

Glen has taken an enormous chance and I commend him for it and I hope that all of the information comes to light so that all Rovers fans can see what we are up against here, make no mistake about it, Theres a big challenge ahead!

This libel gets rolled out far to often, why can the Mirror print Barclays kept the Phil Jones money and the LET not? If you have a source and your source tells you x y and z are happening and you believe that source the story gets run.

As for cutting off his food I will repeat when as the last time the LET broke a story? They were a million miles behind the take over talk and in the end rushed out a cut and paste story of the BBC article. Maybe I am just expecting to much from them? But when people do other full times jobs and still come out with new news it does make people wonder.

As for being pro Venkys how can anyone be pro Venkys at the moment? Even Venkys themselves must have realized things are not right.

You need to check up on Criminal Libel in the Uk Bangkok! Anything slighting them would be defamation. Messy business to get dragged into. If the mirror ran that story it is because they had impirical evidence to back it up. Yes with transfers, you get told "Arsenal want to buy Samba" and that is run as a potential transfer but with that type of story, you are not defaming anyone.

If LT or Mirror or even Sky ran the type of information that Glen and others have been given without hard evidence, they would recieve a cease and desist letter faster than you can say "Balaji Rao doesnt take no for an answer!" along with a writ of some sort.

If i goes to court, you have to show your information as to the reasoning behind running the story. Yes Journos can argue "Qualified Privilege"; it being in the publics best interests but that usually applies to public bodies and not privately owned football clubs.

As for the LT, no they are the poor cousins of the digital age in terms of news reporting but if they still have a good circulation number, do they need to be the "news breakers"? I would suggest no.

Hate to say it Bangkok Rovers but they broke the Vuckevic deal, broke the Bruno Ribeiro deal and I think they were also the first outlet to get quotes from Blackburn saying Venkys would buy club. They were also the first to report John Williams had left the club and that Simon Hunt had joined. Cryer may be a mate of mine so Im biased - but he has been spot on this summer (well as much as you can be with this lot in charge)

I'm sorry but that stuff about Cryer is nonsense. He has been criticising Venky's and what is going on for a long time now. I know for a fact the club believe he is against them and have not been happy with his last two match reports or his summer columns. I know the guy and Rovers are making nis life hell at the moment

Agreed.

Read this on my HTC this AM on the way into Manchester on the train, I tweeted him to say a well done to him on a great article.

He is one of the decent ones that doesn't just follow the normal garbage you see churned out by the big 4 lovers.

Be nice to see a reasoned response from our owners perhaps with a sprinkling of humility?

Did anyone hear Winter on BBC lancs?

Yes, heard the R Lancs interview. Didn't reveal too much as there was no direct reference to the main points of the article so when HW was referring to the fans concerns about the running of the club it wasn't clear what evidence he had used to write the piece.

He was v supportive of Rovers fans understandable expectation of more communication from Venkys and more public acceptance from Kean that we are in dire straights and that his record does not entitle him to claim we have played well in every game etc etc.

Sent it to Andy Cryer to see if it can wake him the Kean Presser spell and instead of just repeating what he is told. He would actually do some digging or reporting for himself. The local paper should be leading the fight to Venkys and not just suckling up to Vinkys and Keans teats.

Glen's blog article was better than anything that Andy has created in recent months. IMHO Andy and the LET are fast becoming irrelevant.

Andy Cryer has written a good, hard-hitting article in todays LET under the headline "Venky's, the fans deserve much better" (can't see it online at the moment).

I'm sure it will get attention in the right places, as will Henry Winter's article.

These are the things which will make a difference - not email bombardments of staff at Ewood and in Pune, or false promises of banners and demos at games.

On the false claims of protests, well no arguments there Tris, but on the email campaign, didnt Kamy et al say it was having an effect?

Seems unlikely considering the friendly wave to Bilaj and Jerome last night, but there you go...

They're never going to sack the manager on the back of a few hundred emails received one Tuesday afternoon (as I posted last night - the likely effect of email bombardment triggered by an online campaign is that they switch off to it).

What will have an effect is clear and vocal dissatisfaction expressed by a majority from the stands, and I'm quite sure that will happen at 4.50pm on Saturday if there's anything less than 3 points in the bag.

So the way I see it, Kean is on an almost game-by-game "trial by home fans jury" at the moment so he must get a string of wins. It is very helpful of the likes of Henry Winter and now Andy Cryer, to put things into very understandable context for the owners to digest.

And beyond the immediate fate of the manager (which IMO is a sideshow), it also gives much needed public exposure to the bigger and far more important questions which have to be answered in public as well.
