1864roverite
I have pondered the game since leaving the game yesteerday, once again before the final whistle. I just knew Everton were going to score and take the points. I have to say there was some good football on show but for me that isnt enough. The following questions need answering and Kean needs to think about resigning as soon as possible. David Dunn is clearly not fit so why play him ? MGP - enigma shirking tackles is shocking especially from a senior player. Salgado - all Rovers problems this season revolve around his lack of movement and bad decision making. He is so far past the starting 11 its time to grass him out. Roberts - what exactly does he bring to Rovers starting 11 ? Cant jump, pass, shoot or score and yesterday was simply a joke of a centre forward. Not worth ever a starting spot at Ewood. Rang 606 but didnt get a call back because I would have asked his comments on his own non performance. SHOCKING. Tactics - wrong set up for me although we had the better of the game Kean got the set up wrong. Penalties - SHOCKING that a senior player backs off the chance to score goals. SHOCKING that two players should miss them in the same game. (I do agree that all of the penalties were bad decisions). Referee - truly shocking performance. Rovers seem to be a nearly team but as it stands it is my view we are heading downwards, the positive is the football style but the clearly opbvious negative is Keans lack of common nouse where football is concerned. Why and how he doesnt address it is unfathamable. Roberts and Salgado are seriously week links in the team. SORT it out. The balance is nearly there but we need a leader up front, we need a leader in the middle and we need a leader at the back. I cant stick listening to his excuses, his positiveness just doesnt wear on me. Its a big 72 hours or so in Rovers existence as a Premier League team. If he gets the wrong decision its curtains for the club. If the ckub can see this they will take action NOW. Never in my time have I walked off two games with over 8 minutes to go. I am so underwhelmed.

broadsword
Based on yesterday's game (this is the Everton thread after all), I don't know how you can come to conclusion that we need two defenders more than we need two players elsewhere. The defence wasn't the issue yesterday, Everton barely had a chance all game. If Samba goes we will have a back line of: Salgado- Hanley - Givet - Olsson or (when Nelsen is fit): Salgado - Nelsen - Hanley - Givet Would you like that back line to face Spurs, Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea? We'd get absolutely reamed. And what happens if two defenders get injured, as well as losing Samba? We need a right-back, a centre-half, a midfielder who has Premier League experience and one or two strikers. In the next 72 hours.
Gamst
Can I ask why people are moaning about Petrovic after only his second appearance as a sub? You can't expect him to be world class from the off. Some people are strange on this messageboard. Having been to the match yesterday and seen him play I am rather concerned. I appreciate that players need time to settle and I will support him of course, but my main concern was his lack of pace. He was seriously slow! Pace is not something that can be improved dramatically. Kean described him as a box to box midfielder....it appears that this would only be feasible if he was able to use a motorbike. It is difficult to assess how well a target in an inferior league would fair in the Premiership, but surely one attribute that is fairly constant and easy to judge is pace. Yet as the season went on he just got better and better.

The defence wasn't the issue yesterday, Everton barely had a chance all game. Why would you base it on just one game? We definitely need a right back urgently, and just because Everton were utterly toothless and playing without an experienced striker doesn't mean we are suddenly ok there. The reality is, we could do with strengthening all over the pitch. A Left back OR centre half (left back means Olssen could play as winger, centre would mean Givet could move over), right back, and a forward would see us right. Not likely all that will happen, though.

Not likely all that will happen, though. Agree, although I'd most definately go for a left back instead of a cb - as prefer Givet in the centre and have reservations about Hanley. Olsson on left wing would be like a new player, and give us a lot more attacking flair. We don't have much money and a lb would be cheaper than a midfielder (generally), so getting one freeing Olsson to play further forwards would be a big boost to the team. A right back is desperately needed, although if I were Kean I'd have given Emerton a run there. Both measures seem a bit penny pinching in the transfer market but I'd rather all the money we had went on a top class striker - or as near as we can get. We need someone who can put the ball in the back of the net on a regular basis, and guarentee us at least 10 goals even in a struggling team. Like FLB I'm not sure any of this will happen though. McClarky
I thought we were pretty unlucky yesterday but that's what happens when you're struggling. Kean is going the way he was during the bad run last year, it's like he has no idea what to do so just changes players, tactics etc from game to game in the desperate hope that he'll find a winning formula. Looking at our fixtures coming up we have 4 really tough home games in a row so if we don't start winning away we're going to be almost dead and buries before we get to the end of November. philipl
To be honest, until we get a competent manager who can organise a defense it is hard to see what we really need apart from more PL bodies who can tackle.

Duffy
We should have won the game yesterday without a doubt. Yes, we were unlucky, but then as many people say you make your own luck - Everton rode theirs and we got punished for missing the chances we did have. My own views on the starting line-up were that, Formica and Goodwille should both have started - we looked much better when they were on. Olsson I would prefer to see on the left wing as he would be a great asset to our attack. I actually though Givet and Samba had excellent games at the heart of the defence - losing Samba without a decent replacement would be a disaster - his presence yesterday showed what we miss when he doesn't play. There is potential in the team and (I say that advisedly) but to turn potential into a winning force needs the right manager and one that will have the respect of the whole team - I don't think Kean is that man. Another striker and central defender is a must - to provide cover and competition and hopefully strenghten those areas. The first penalty was poorly taken, the second much better. To sum up: poor result, disappoitment in front of goal, decent performance, now we need someone who can turn a decent performance into one that wins us a few games. thenodrog
I can see what Kean is trying to do - if he can pull it off we will have an exciting team to watch over the next few years. If he doesn't we will possibly be relegated. Indeed. The final few matches of last season certainly provided plenty of 'excitement'. Dunno bout you DMTP but funnily enough I didn't enjoy the excitement one bit.

Bluefudge
Samba? Played for himself and not the team? Explain please exactly what made you think that? Watch him play. Samba is a very very vocal player, body language yesterday said everything. You seem to think I'm having a go, I am a massive fan and was it not for the way he played LAST season we would not be in this division. What I'm saying is it's obvious he is not playing for his manager and in turn us.

He does have the demeanour of a man who's mind is elsewhere. Again I must stress I think the guy is a massive plus for us and we are a better team for him.
