[Archived] Rovers v Everton

Recommended Posts

An experienced international who can tackle and' sit' in midfield to allow the attacking players to flourish, who else have we got who is better playing that role?

Grella tackle :rolleyes: he must be one of the sofest Australian sportsman to ever come out of Australia. Just ask Frank Lampard when he did him in front of the Riverside a few seasons ago, the soft lad, get rid asap.

He definitely 'sits' on his arse sat at home because hes that sort of soft lad. If only Graeme Souness was here to sort him <_<

As for Grella picking a pass :wacko: now ive heard it all about this lad, maybe he should be going into our hall of fame.

With the huge caveat of 'when fit' Grella is very good defensively and can pick a pass. He's better suited to playing a stronger attacking team though, as he offers very little going forward and as mentioned is very slow. In a 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-3-2 he's a good fit, but in a conventional 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 he will struggle. I would like to see him at least on the bench at the moment, but it seems that he's been given his marching orders as he's not even mentioned in the injuries list anymore. Shame but in terms of wages to games played he's an awful drain on our wage system, and as an Australian it's frustrating because he's shown in the national team what he's capable of when fit.

Agreed.

He's the guy in the huge roll of bubble wrap near the bench on Saturday

Thanks for the preview, philip.

Fwiw, as a glass-half-full fan, I think [sorry; make that "feel sure"] that we can take Everton tomorrow. I know that Moyes always has them playing as more than the sum of their parts but I just feel that the force is with us. The team I'd like to see Kean put out [which, of course, means he won't] is:

Robinson;

Emerton [so we can all say farewell], Nelsen, Samba, Olsson;

Pedersen, Petrovic, Nzonzi, Hoilett;

Goodwillie, and Roberts' last game before a free transfer to Radio 5.

Rovers to win 2-1 or 3-1.

I've been wondering the same.

There were some articles about him a few days ago saying he'll be called up for Australia.

I don't think he's injured. My best guess is that we're still trying to flog him so don't want to risk injuring him.

Literally wrap him in cotton wool!

The only way we are going to move forward is by playing the kids. Granted there's not much experience in the middle & up front but there's also no fear.

Bench Roberts, Salgado, Pedersen, Dunn.

If we play the old guard, we'll lose.

Robbo

EMerton - Givet - Samba - Olsson

-Petrovic - Nzonzi

Hoilett - Formica - Simon

Ruchina

Lets go for pace and trickery.

If Steve Kean really believes in his signings he should have no problem naming that side.

2-0 rovers - if we play the kids

Yeah this team looks good to me, a little young up front but could see the front four being a goal threat. N'zonzi and Petrovic need to get use to playing together.

I think we'll win tommorrow.

Looking at all the suggested team sheets does this mean Vukcevic (spelling?) is not eligible?

He is available (thankfully) but people might be using 'simon' instead because that is the name which he will wear on his shirt, also it's his first name.

I like Rochina but he is a risk and I'm not sure I'd start him yet.

He has bags of skill and ability but even on wednesday was guilty of overworking it in our own half.

Tough decision that really.

Thing is though Ruben potentially cost us goals agaisnt City and Everton last season with inexperience.

He looks like he can create or score from nothing though so as long as we have a solid core with Samba, Givet, Nzonzi and maybe Petrovic in I'd throw him in up front not on the wing.

At the moment I am feeling positive. I hope to see the new signings starting and those that scored on Wednesday rewarded with a start. Best time to play Everton although they'd say the same about us I think. Salgado was crap for the first few games last season but then improved dramatically, and so far he's been crap this season. I think he likes his summers off too much and then takes a few games to get match-sharp again. Hopefully that will start today and we tighten up considerably at the back.
