[Archived] Steve Kean

Glenn

We're now had our worst start since the 1950s, but an improved performance and some bad luck. So how do people feel?

People who are good salespeople are dumb people that doesn't realize or is affected by all the dumb ignorant stuff that comes out of their mouths.

Unfortunately, good salespeople aren't necessarily good managers, where you actually also need personal skills as reflection and smartness.

Kean OUT

First game - Lost at home.

Second Game - Lost at Villa.

Third Game - Lost again at home.

The only reason people were saying we'd have no points by September is because it was clear from the last 8/9 months that Kean is clueless and is only able to gain points when it involves driving after massive excesses of alcohol.

it was a fair prediction because most Rovers fans saw the writing on the wall at the end of last season, when Kean almost took a safe mid-table side to relegation.

Fixed :)

The next run of matches are very difficult - including Fulham away for a newly created squad.

So if the Manager is 'sacked' by the witchunt on here that is not the end of the story....we have to appoint the right replacement from the football 'establishment'. On this I agree with Madon's little piece.

Guarantee me Hughes and the Taffia coming back and I will support the knee-jerks on here.

All that might happen is 3 weeks of speculation on here. But then again that is what this Messageboard is for -isn't it? BRFCS.com needs to emphasise the 'S'.

Knee-jerk?

We had the worst run of results in 25 years last season and the worst start to a season in 60 years this season. And he's had almost 30 games, we are not talking about a manager that has just had three games in charge here.

Our next three fixtures:

Fulham Away

Arsenal at home

Newcastle Away

Can anyone see us getting a win out of those three fixtures? I can't...

He should have gone as soon as the final whistle was blown on the final day.

First game - Stephen at Centre back meaning we had no DMF.

Second Game - Away at Villa.

Third Game - battered them and got really unlucky.

The only reason people were saying we'd have no points by September is because they despise Kean so much.

It shouldn't have happened and we shouldn't be on no points but...

it was a ###### prediction because they let hatred and emotions get in the way. I ain't bowing before them joyless mugs.

Good description of some of the problems faced by the team in terms of missing players.

The issue of Kean appears to polarise views and close eyes to some of what actually goes on, on the pitch. My view of Kean is still ambivalent because I thought there was a good display against Everton and it was our forwards inability to score penalties that was the problem. Chances created and generally Everton were allowed to only offer little.

The transfers brought in look better now with the addition of an outstanding young English centre-half in Scott Dann and despite a lot of negativity about Yakubu I suspect that he will start well. I doubt if the Yak will keep it up but I will be happy if we get a good season out of him. Jordan Slew is very much an investment but hopefully a shrewd one. More improtantly we kept Samba and N'Zonzi and it looks like Hoillet will sign an extension. The Serb and the Montenegran will need time to settle in so they may be a while off.

Anyway, I am in favour of Kean staying for the time being because of the Everton performance and also the signing of Dann. If results remain poor and performances are also poor then yes, the owners should review the situation again.

I am comfortable that other posters may feel differently and respect their views, hopefully the courtesy will be returned to those of us who aren't of the same persuasion.

End of the day he aint going anywhere right now, and I still don't think he will if we lose the next 2 games. So, you will get your wish of him staying for now.

When/if the axe does fall, he can't say he wasn't give 'time'.

First game was lost due to lack of planning and forsight, Kean was in Pune buggering about with Roberts and Nelsen etc just two weeks before the seasons opener, Jones moved in June to Man U, he knew Nelsen was not going to be ready for the first game and that there was an added possibility at that time that Samba could also leave.

With that knowledge, we shouldnt have had to wait for a deadline day signing of a Centre Back, extremely poor planning, second game was lost due to the silly formation Kean played which left the back four exposed, by that time we had played 2 and lost 2 so the added pressure to win the Everton game was even greater with the knowledge of a difficult run of fixtures to follow!

I stated weeks ago, we needed to hit the ground running the way the fixtures had panned out, if I can see that, why not the thinker who works long hours with an abysmal record as a supposed manager!!

If thats a witch hunt, I feel sorry for you as in my opinion and many others too, a total lack of planning and foresight!

Yeah, let's start judging him now.

The previous 9 months have been a free go. Just so he can get his hand in, like. He's done appallingly, but he was just testing the parameters, seeing how far he could go with certain tactics, dipping his toe in the water.

Now we've spent some of the money we got when we under-sold Phil Jones, it's his team now. You can't judge a manager if they've got someone else's team you know.

There is no knee jerk reaction, we have seen what he has done over the last 9 months and the numbers do not lie.

That being said with the players he has brought to the club there can be no excuses from Kean and results should pick up due to the standard of player (IMO) being better.

I am confident of finishing higher than 15th...but not by much.

I reckon Venky's will give Kean another ten matches and insist that we average 1.5 points over that period and remain in the League Cup. This will take us to a third of the way through the season with HIS team including the players that he brought in Jan and August and thus 15 points expected out of the next ten fixtures. If it becomes apparent Kean cannot make this 13 match deadline target then he goes sooner and new, experienced manager is lined up to take over with a January Transfer window backing promised. If he makes 15 points from 13 matches then he continues with a review after 19 games (half-way etc).I cannot judge him on last season as he was left with the hangover from previous regimes including an aging/crocked midfield , an impotent attack and creaking knees in defence. These problems were NOT addressed by either the last owners nor the last manager IMO despite them being obvious for at least 2 years.

Seriosly though Kamy. I heard your and WENs podcast this morning while eating breakfast. If you consider glen mullans info about fans day etc as well they are aware of the horrible run we have. They are aware of fans becoming extremely anxious and angry at their manager. They are aware of what all the papers are writing.

If we lose again against Fulham I see no way this guy can continue. His record speaks for itself. It is horrible!

I have been a member of this board during Mark Hughes, Paul Ince, Sam Allardyce and Steve Kean and there have always been people who have been unhappy about each of them , but NEVER EVER have I seen such a massive dissatisfaction with a manager at the Rovers.

It will be be ironic if he is sacked after the Fulham game, that should have happened last season.

I think the man is totally bulletproof.

Okay, few things for me (That I think others have pretty much stated, but here's my 10p...)

1. Kean isn't going anywhere yet is he, clearly.

2. It's HIS team now, no excuses

3. Looking at the overall squad, we should be do better than we have

4. The owners will back him until at least November, unless we get humiliated, which of course, the vast majority of us don't want to see

5. Most of us have no problem backing the team

So on the basis that we will have a love / hate relationship at least until we start climbing the table, and, the owners prove that they are listening, we should start afresh.

After all, the fans are vocal enough?

What do you guys reckon?

I say give the guy a run. He inherited an industrial, rigid team from Mr Vain, and should be given a fair chance to stamp his philosophy on his players. The trouble with the tremblers is they do not give managers a chance these days.

The perfect example of being given time is RFW. (and no I don't ecpect Kean to emulate his success, but to be given enough time to be judged on his players and ideas)
