John Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Would be quite a novelty if all our new signings settled in straight away, some will need time.

chris Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 First of all Dann is a 5-8 million pound player who just a few months back was values at 14 million by Brum, their money issues and our quick thinking has meant a brilliant bit of business for us. A player is only worth what someone is willing to pay for them, as far as I know nobody bidded for Dann but Blackburn, just because Birmingham value him at 14 million, and we value Kalinic at 12 million, it doesn't mean thats what someone will pay. I'm not saying hes not a good player but he didn't after one decent season of relegation, derserve to be valued with Samba and Cahill. potential 7.7m was a more then fair price.
imy9 Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Watching Petrovic against Everton was far from inspiring, as he passed the ball out of play under no pressure, passed the ball to an Everton player under no pressure, failed to track back as Falaini blazed over the bar from a good goalscoring opportunity, got cautioned for dragging an Everton player back lazily, and producing one of the weakest shots you'll probably see from distance. But hey, time will tell. But it definitely isnt a good start from the lad then again maybe i'm being a bit unfair as we should be judging him from now on and not then my mistake. This isn't directed to you in particular JAL but there is this mentality of writing of players early on this MB. Formica could not "trap a ball" in reserve games last year, Petrovic has been compared to Andrews on here recently too. Petrovic is technically a very good player, can he make it the PL? Time will tell, one thing I will stick my neck out and say, he will be a success in Spain and Italy where the slower pace of the game is ideally matched to how he plays at the moment. A player is only worth what someone is willing to pay for them, as far as I know nobody bidded for Dann but Blackburn, just because Birmingham value him at 14 million, and we value Kalinic at 12 million, it doesn't mean thats what someone will pay. Why would someone offer £14 million when they know Brum are in a dire financial state? Many Blues fans I know think that their relegation is linked to Dann being missing for the second half the season. If we are relegated do you think Samba is worth less than £15 million? I bet no one offers more than £6- 8 million for him- its not a true reflection of the players value.
chris Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 "Petrovic was wanted by Roma, confirmed by our own Roberto, highly rated." Funny that Roma didn't buy him at 2.5 m and 22 years old, instead paying 10m for a 19 year old midfielder in Lamela.

Roberto did explain why it happened the way it did- cannot remember off the top of my head. We wanted Ibi for £6 million and George for £1 million, a week later we sign a defender for £6 million and a striker for £1 million! Things and priorities can change lol!
mick Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 I wonder how much moaning would have been done if we had dropped 9miilion pounds on an unknown youngster from Mexico called Hernandez. No prem experience. Huge gamble. Hindsight is the best. Everything is a gamble.
John Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 We have got no Fergie though, Keano Kentaro with the marvellous Jensen by his side. With Blackman on an extended dead with the amazing Myles too. Cheers Jerome.

No prem experience. Huge gamble. Hindsight is the best. Everything is a gamble. Lets go back a year, Dealine day Blackburn Rovers have sign Dann for 7.7 million and purchased world cup star and the quickest player in World Cup 2010 Hernández (22) for 9 million who has 11 international goals in 20 games and 21 goals in 28 games for club. I wouldn't have moaned.
John Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 if you want talk about signings all night chaps, we have a manager who is basically out of his depth. Results to date illustrate that.

No prem experience. Huge gamble. Hindsight is the best. Everything is a gamble. Totally different gravy, his star quality was obvious. Our cluster of signings are not household names. They will now need to start making an impact as we have a run of difficult games. The biggest problem remains on the sidelines, however. if you want talk about signings all night chaps, we have a manager who is basically out of his depth. Results to date illustrate that. Agreed, you could have the best orchestra in the world, but if the conductor is clueless, you won't be making much music.
Hekla Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Every player is a gamble, it's the manager and the way he manages which is the key. You can have an average team and work wonders with a good manager.
Veevs Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 First of all Dann is a 5-8 million pound player who just a few months back was values at 14 million by Brum, their money issues and our quick thinking has meant a brilliant bit of business for us. Simon has had a major falling out with his coach and coupled with 1 year left on his deal has meant a bargain 2 million fee. I may be mistaken but I think Sporting paid over 2 million last year to buy 100% rights for the player,i think they only partpaid for him. Petrovic was wanted by Roma, confirmed by our own Roberto, highly rated. The rest of the signings in my eyes are the big gambles and the chances of working out are more limited,i am confident that the players mentioned will be 5-8 million players by the endof the season. Dang it Imy didn't you use the reason for Kalinic not settling in like Bellamy and RSC as they had EPL experience and big league experience.. don't really think anyone considers the leagues in portugal and serbia as that great. I agree we should not write these players off but we should not bank on them neither, as you yourself just pointed out Formica and co took a long while (more than 6months) to settle and as it stands these guys are ALL expected/needed to hit the ground running, never mind Goodwillie from the SPL who is now our third choice striker and the Yak at number two who has never looked the same since his injury. How many times in the past have we been let down by foreign signings.. and Kean has basically gambled everything on a bunch of young lads, a player who has not been the same since injury and one single experienced EPL player (who also happens to be a young lad). We should of dumped Kean while when he was done for drink driving (A legally proven method for firing someone) while we still had time during the transfer window, because its to late now for anyone to come in and fix the issues that already exist.
Seggie Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Its hard to judge signings that are going to be new to the league, some players adapt to different leagues better than others regardless of their quality such as Schevchenko who looked out of his depth at £30m, some players need time regardless of their fee such as Edin Djeko, Some just slot in straight away such as Aguerro. I could put that into a Rovers context too, Grabbi failed, Pederson needed time, Chris Samba was an instant hit. What Steve Kean will be judged on because he has made these signings now is immediate results, I have the feeling that Vukenvic will be a hit and Petrovic will need time, realistically we need Petrovic to hit the ground running more than Vukenvic because we have other players that can fulfil his role. If these players don't perform immediately(I'll include Dann and Yak in that catagory too) and our results continue to be poor then Kean will be gone. If 1 or 2 perform and results pick up results he'll stay if the unthinkable happens and we get the best from the players purchased and the likes of Rochina and Hoillett and Kean gets us playing nice football and winning games then the guy will have proved us all wrong showing us what a fickle world football can be although I can't see any tactical nous in Steve Kean currently to see that happening unfortunatly.
BPF Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 So we have 94 people totally out of their mind now...
BuckyRover Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 So we have 94 people totally out of their mind now... It's Saturday night
mike at picture Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 So we have 94 people totally out of their mind now... 94 people have an opinion different from yours. It does not mean that they are "out of their mind" just that they have a different opinion. Are you one of those that has to shout down or deride folk who dont agree with you? Jesus, this forum becomes harder and harder to read.
sam_rovers Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 So we have 94 people totally out of their mind now... Companies in India are highly labor intensive- 94 employees is not that much

Agree. If these new signings are so good then why does Kean seem to have little faith in them? Why does he always start with Roberts, Pedersen, Dunn and Emo (can't do that anymore of course!)? Why did it take injuries to get a decent side out against Everton when we were as poor as them first half? If Kean lacks confidence in his new signings why should we have any?
roverandout Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 the 94 must be on a wind-up, some are doing it to bait those who voted sack.
broadsword Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 the 94 must be on a wind-up, some are doing it to bait those who voted sack. Important that people are allowed to freely express their opinion on here without fear or favour. In the case of this vote, even if they are complete maniacs/wind-up merchants.
mike at picture Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 the 94 must be on a wind-up, some are doing it to bait those who voted sack. .......and that's me out.
roverandout Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 bryan, the same must be applied to those who voted sack, as the 'negative' ones get alot of stick if they dont conform to the 'glass-half-full-brigade'.
67splitscreen Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Perhaps the glimmer of hope we have been waiting for maybe his days are numbered.
