[Archived] Steve Kean

Glenn

We're now had our worst start since the 1950s, but an improved performance and some bad luck. So how do people feel?

Are you an idiot Abbey? Clearly if you think the smiths weren't any good

They were and still are one of, I'd argue, top 3 influential bands of all time. And that's fact not fiction

Oh and great work ballboy. Thinking of one for hang the dj now

Sorry---your view is your view--its neither fact nor fiction.

See my post regarding Ince's failed tenure. He went after 17 games!

Ince's record is actually better though! :P

But we had a squad that had just finished 6th apart from Brad. Now we have a squad full of potentail. Put it this way, if we were playing a promoted side with our squad we'd be senting blood as i think most premiership sides are.

Brilliant isn't it, these fans happy to either ignore or re-write history.

Kean has been here longer than Ince and has obtained, unbelievably, a worse record.

Three games? Hardly, try 24 and then come back with your tired argument about "Giving Kean More Time" and make it stick.

I am very happy with the news reported in The People.

Shows that they are taking the fans views into account.

Kean has his own squad and if he succeeds in the next couple of games- fair play, because it will mean that Rovers succeed, if not then he needs to go, Jones is a respected manager, as is Hughes either one would be fine with me.

Edit: just read this on twitter from Glen...

"Lose at Fulham and he is gone, Options for replacements have been in motion since March"

Why wait for the Fulham match. If this has been considered since March. Then it is obvious - especially as things have not changed for the better - that he needs to go now. But first and formost they need a replacement willing to come in.

Last season it was said lose at Fulham and he is gone - yet he is still here. Why wait any longer. Rovers need a victory, not risk a defeat at Fulham. May as well say, next time Rovers lose, he is gone. sorry, I don't want another defeat, I'd rather not risk waiting for a defeat. We have a very good squad of players in my view. That a decent manager could turn into a decent team. A team being successful answers everybodys desires (apart from the media), the owners, managers, players and the supporters - but Kean is unable to provide that.

The time to act is now - especially if it has been considered since march.

I'd rather quote myself to retort than "re-write history"

Back to the point; We now can safely judge Kean on his results, because he has absolutley no excuses now. I am one of the glass half full merchants, so I am prepared to give SK the benefit of the doubt in terms of his first 6 months in charge. Replacing an experienced manager, under new owners is always a difficult task; especially when a lot of your senior players come out in "revolt". You could say that he only kept us up on the points SA accrued early season but then you could also say that his decision to sign JJ on loan almost saved us on it's own

He has his own players now, he has his own staff. He has had plenty of time for the players to know what he wants and we are entering "last chance saloon". Losing 3 games on the spin is an awful start to the season. I would suggest that his team selections didn't help what was a dire situation in terms of defensive injuries. If he can replicate the performance against Everton - adding to our defensive and attacking capabilities we may just suprise a few people this season. I think we have a great home game in Arsenal coming up, which normally scare me to death, but this is obviously a good time to play them.

Results will save Kean. My only worry is he will carry on selecting Pedersen and Dunn - who in my opinion; have been well below standard in the short time I have seen them this season. Dunny is on a rapid slope in my eyes. I get the feeling that SK will carry on utilising Dunn in a 442 whilst he is fit, and I think this is suicide. He does not have the capability in terms of engine (see JJ) to cope with this position. When Petrovic came on in the Everton game (Besides a few mistakes that JAL seems to have only seen) we looked stronger through the middle of the park. Everton had to resort to using the flanks.

The future needs consistency - firstly from the owners in terms of media, and secondly in terms of management. Surely those who beleive Sacking Steve Kean after 3 games have forgotten what sacking Big Sam did to our performances. Also, even if we lost the first 10 games, that would leave 28 games; plenty of time to finish mid table nevermind avoid relegation. With the squad we have, as I said previously, SK has no excuses now. If his team selections don't lead to improving results soon though, he will be walked into the Rao backyard and given thee old "yeller" treatment.

the fact remains that kean has had long enough to prove himself and he hasnt. How many chances are some people on here going to give him? Nothing is going to change all of a sudden, you cant become a good manager overnight, if he had a trackrecord at other clubs of good management then fair enough but he has no trackrecord so therefore there is no basis for people to believe he can turn it around.

I can't remember any side losing their first 10 matches and staying up. Has any side?

Interesting;

The Sheffield United vintage of 1990-91 are still in there leading the way.

Having been promoted the season before, Dave Bassett's side looked totally out of their depth, picking up just five points from their first 16 games before beating Nottingham Forest 3-2 on December 22. After that win, their star midfielder Vinnie Jones said that finishing fourth from bottom would be like winning the Championship.

Yet United finished safely in 13th - 12 points off relegation. In fact, they finished the season showing Championship form: ten wins and three draws from their last 16 games, including seven straight wins.

So Kean, you ask now to be judged?,you say 'the season starts now'? <_<

How long do you think we as loyal fans can wait for you to blunder this club into the lower leagues of oblivion?

Make no mistake, the pressure is on you to get results Kean, and you and this faltering team, who apparently think your a fantastic manager  better start to deliver and ruddy well fast!!.I have a worrying feeling that far too many of our senior players are in the comfort zone at Ewood....its time to turn the heat up a little.

It's quite clear the fans wont stand for this crud much longer.

Nope nearest would be 05/06 Everton 4 points.

And were they relegated that season??No.....Oh dear! How COULD they possibly escape relegation with a start like that?

Absolute impossibility according to around 90% on this MB.

If Kean goes, the Venky's get a chance to start agin so far as I am concerned.

But the guy has far too much toxic history so far as I am concerned even if he gets the odd result or two.

The damage has been done and at the end of the season, getting 0 points from those three games could easily cost the club its Premier League status and the Venky's their £52m in the club.

Could you explain the £52 million, I must have missed something!

The amount Mrs D said that Venky's were in effect paying for Rovers.

It was made up of:

£20m paid immediately to BRFCI (Walker Trust)

£3m to be paid in three annual stages to BRFCI (Walker Trust)

£5m subscription in new shares as investment in BRFC required by the terms of the contract of sale

£10m additional investment in BRFC required by terms of the contract of sale

£14m existing BRFC overdraft taken off Rovers' books and put onto Venky's books required by the terms of the contract of sale

£52m total.

Ok

Game 1 - inexperienced centre half playing alongside 22 yrd old central midfield player.

Game 2 - inexperienced centre half playing alongside half fit ageing centre half

Game 3 - miss two penalties - hit bar - hit post - largely play them off the pitch

Your disdain of Kean is well known - however, even an experienced manager would have struggled in that situation.

Quite happy for you to look at his overall record and say how poor it is - but in our first three matches I think Kean has been genuinely unlucky. 0 points from the first three matches would have been likely no matter who was in the hot seat.

What I find interesting - most of your anger is directed at Kean. It was our owners that messed up the initial stages of the transfer window (possibly leaving us exposed for players in our first couple of matches). It is our owners that have undermined the overall managerial fabric of the club - and indeed it is our owners that appointed Kean and have (up to now) stood by him.

If Venkys are SERIOUS about taking the club forward then we must get rid of Kean asap.. Even if he was to win against Fulham and Arsenal AND City I have no confidence in this guys tactical ability.. I doubt he can win any of the games and he will have excuses, like it takes time for new players to gell..or like in his case for ever..
