[Archived] Steve Kean

Glenn

We're now had our worst start since the 1950s, but an improved performance and some bad luck. So how do people feel?

In my opinion, Blackburn Rovers are extremely unlikely to have made a more damaging appointment of any employee in the club's 135 year history. The fact he is a rubbish manager is probably incidental.

Totally agree and unlike JFK (Kennedy assasination) the secrets of Steve Kean will not be locked away for decades to come. The truth will come out, and others will understand how detrimental he has been to the whole situation Rovers currently find themselves in, both on and off the pitch

If Venkys are SERIOUS about taking the club forward then we must get rid of Kean asap.. Even if he was to win against Fulham and Arsenal AND City I have no confidence in this guys tactical ability.. I doubt he can win any of the games and he will have excuses, like it takes time for new players to gell..or like in his case for ever..

As a Blackburn Rovers supporter first and foremost I find this a bit odd. If we won these 3 games I would be starting to give Kean a little bit of leeway to be honest. To say the least. And I have questioned his abilities along with everyone else.

Spoken with a wide number of people over the last few days, since the window closed.

Main points - the feeling with supporters against Kean is hardening even further, and seemingly also in the game. The behaviour of Kean and Rovers in the window, in the opinion of a good number, has left us with very, very little credibility.

Win, lose or draw at Fulham, he's not the right man for the job and this has been very clear since very early days.

He needs to go now to give us a fighting chance.

Whats he done during the transfer window to give Rovers very little credibility ?

I fully stand by it, But hey i'm hoping for three points because I don't want his downfall, to effect our teams Premiership future.

Thing is Glen, delaying the sacking of Kean is the main risk to our prelonged Premiership survival.

Although none of us wants Rovers to ever get beaten, sometimes to have to take one step back to make progress.

Keeping Kean at our club is just horrific news on all fronts, football being the primary.

A difficult position then - if we win he gets an extended run. If we lose - we are further from safety - but have no manager (with nobody qualified to cover as Parkes did on numerous occasions).

Glen - though I appreciate confidences etc. - I just wish people would come out and say what they know rather than the numerous insinuations that seem to do the rounds.

From reading your posts - you are obviously well informed. But I do fear that the numerous rumours - true and and untrue - are totally undermining the club.

Sorry to be a bother Glen, do you believe that any of the rumours involving Venkys holding back some of the summer funds in anticipation that they may be needed for the winter transfer window (for a new manager) are true?

Not sure on the rumours myself but they would make sense (as would signing players who have been in the sights of top managers and pulling out of allot of deals) if they are determined to remove both the Kentaro/SEM/JA influence and have been seriously considering removing Kean since March.

I can understand your concerns, and i'm sure every single Rovers fan share's those exact concerns with you.

We used to be a happy well run club,

However a new chapter is now being written and the future of the club is now being put on a more professional level, which in turn will give it a better opportunity to prosper long term.

The wrongs which have been done are being put right, and only one ingrediant remains before the club can trully look forwards instead of over their shoulders and that is the Manager.

However your opinion is welcomed as much as anyone elses, everyone has their own beliefs and I applaud you for sharing yours.

Nearly 100 fans have voted for the Manager to remain in charge, and their opinion is based on their own interpretation of the situation, This does not mean they are being awkward, or are wrong, This is their belief and I respect that

At last a sensible and balanced post.

I agree that in the present circumstances, and given the new players just signed and the consequent total re-arrangement of the squad it is the only fair thing to do. Kean should be given at the very least the next 6 to 10 games to show if he can really turn things completely around and start to get some points on the board. If we are not at least in 15th position and playing well enough to show that we can continue to climb at this time, then it really is time for Venkys to swing the axe. But until then I say stick with Kean and get right behind the team.

Yes I know this is a U-turn for me but I honestly believe that in all the circumstances we should at least give the guy another few games and see if he can get some decent performances and more importantly some points.

Every penny which was available this window was spent, and some signings had to be bought on the drip to ensure that the club could stretch the funds a little further.

I'm sure when January's window open's the club will look at what can be physically made available to the Manager without putting the club into debt.

a number of positives emerging there Glen which is nice to see. Like you said Kean is the final piece who if replaced may get most fans back on side with the owners.

Though I haven't voted - they are possibly like me. I wanted Ince to be a success, I want Kean to be a success - mainly because I want Rovers to unearth the next Mourinho or Fergie so we can start challenging at the top again. The last managerial talent we unearthed that went on to great things was Kendall (Dalglish was a legend before Rovers). Coincidentally - it was during Kendall's Division 3 promotion that I started to go to Rovers on a regular basis.

As far as Kean is concerned - there have been a few positives - not many I grant you. I find the rumours worrying - but from my perspective they are only rumours.

If we are to sack him - Hughes has to be lined up in advance - he is the only manager we have had in recent years that I thought could have taken us further forward with the right investment. He also has the profile to attract the right type of player from around Europe.

Are the constraints down to wage bill - or transfer fees ?

If they are down to transfer fees - it would infer that the rumours around banks withdrawing our lines of credit are true - that they aren't putting in £5m per season as promised and that they have mis-managed the clubs finances so far.

For a start, just think how many brides have been left at the altar !?!?!

glen so have they looked at anyone else apart from hughes or jones? do you think either of those two would come here?

I'd be very surprised if Hughes returned as things stand (Venky's and their wow & set-up).

If you look back, Jones historically has a 'soft spot' for Rovers. I think he would come but as he's from the Kentaro / Sem stable, might prove to be a blocker.

Ok

Game 1 - inexperienced centre half playing alongside 22 yrd old central midfield player.

Game 2 - inexperienced centre half playing alongside half fit ageing centre half

Game 3 - miss two penalties - hit bar - hit post - largely play them off the pitch

Did last season pass you by? This clown has proven time and again that he is not fit for purpose. The fact that we did not have sufficient experienced defensive cover came as a surprise to Mr.Kean did it? Remind me again the date that we sold Jones?

The "man" (and I use that term losely) has had more than enough chance to prove he is up to scratch and failed miserably. He must go NOW for us to move forward.

"We had numerous applications for the first-team coaching position and Steve stood out above the rest through his personality, experience and knowledge of football at the highest level," said Allardyce. "We are very confident that he will become a key member of the team behind the team, as we drive things forward."

I guess we all make mistakes...

So why can the truth not come out now if it is so bad?

6 to 10 games at the very least? Fulham, Arsenal, Newcastle, Manchester City, QPR, Tottenham, Norwich City, Chelsea take us to the middle of November. Looking at those fixtures would you really want to give Kean all that time BASED ON HIS RECORD AS MANAGER? If we win at Fulham he will probably get some time but a loss and then those 8 games to come? He just isn't worth it IMO... nothing to do with the man but based solely on his record as the manager.
