[Archived] Steve Kean

Glenn

We're now had our worst start since the 1950s, but an improved performance and some bad luck. So how do people feel?

I hope after what has come out today this sick joke of a manager gets potted after Fulham. I thought it was some kind of sick joke but after reading the mail article he must go. Two points spring to mind as has been said if you sign championship strikers you end up with championship football, and as someone said we have known about our problems to put the ball in the back of the net but is Maynard the best we can come up with?. I am just glad Bristol City have put such a high price on his head meaning Kean will never hit that figure. I thought we were looking at players who would improve our team Maynard will not do that. I'd even rather have Cameron Jerome over him not that I am advocating signing Jerome. With Maynard costing in the region of say 2.5-3M why not add a further 7M and bid for Defoe or Cisse?.

What about a draw Chris? Would be a “positive result” given we are on zero points?

Steve Kean in the BA lounge at heathrow. Friend just saw him.

Bloody hell he must have a body double as i've just seen him on the training ground for the past hour and half :)

Kean and Jensen are cheap, Venkys have no money.

Even firing them and paying them off would cost more money than Venkys have to hand, and that's even replacing them like for like cost wise (D Jones or whoever). Hughes et al would break the bank.

For this reason (plus their seeming obsession with saving face) Kean will not be fired. If we continue to lose and they do the maths and repercussions of going down they may kick him overboard, but to be honest even facing this disaster I don't think that they will as he's the lowest cost bet to have a punt at getting us back up.

Given that he's as much use as a chocolate teapot I'd say we're doomed under all scenarios.

To be fair, if he was there at 3am, it's not inconceivable he could be at Ewood by 2pm, even if he does have to take the train these days.

Exactly I spotted him speed walking at 10.30 am past Leyland, took a pic on the old Iphone, don't let the t-shirt fool you, he was using a fake name, incase he got caught speeding.

i agree with your points about maynard's asking price.. and other options available/ but to demand kean be sacked for expressing an interest in a player is ridiculous!

That was a bit special! Never really seen him play, although his goal scoring record is good.

thats the championship, if he was up against Nzonzi and Hanley as CB's he wouldn't have got the shot off.

I don't watch enough of the championship to know the quality although it looks like a good league this year very competitive, the fact Yakubu got 11 goals in 20 games certainly adds a little hope.

Granted. :)

Even if he's a s**t manager he'll be getting some good air miles in and he'll be a great globetrotter (just wish he'd stay in India). :)

The difference is pretty big in terms of chances for strikers, the top 5-6 have ok defences but some of the others just fall to bits.

A good example of a transition from Championship level to Premier level would be someone like Ebans-Blake at Wolves.. 25 goals in 39 games in championship and since promotion 9 goals in 53 games. Saying that the odd player makes it in the EPL but the goalscoring ratios pretty much all drop like stones. So my personal opinion is judging players based on championship returns is not a good idea.

Wonder if we should start doing a vote based on who we would like as caretaker manager (for the x amount of time until we get someone in).. not really a host of options available to us as I would imagine Jansen will get the boot as well.

Maybe not who we want but those who might actually step in.. Phil Cannon, Iain Brunskill, Balaji, Samba, Salgado, Roberts.... jesus I can't think of many who can step in on a temporary basis.

To my mind its pretty simple really. Kean wants to play a passing style of football, to do this players had to be changed especially in midfield. Sam played a different though effective style of football - we had the players to do this.

I believe we now have the players to achieve the style of football Kean wants. Kean now has to prove he is upto the job. Yes some of the players may need a little time to get used to the Prem BUT even taking that into account we should see a marked improvement - in simple terms POINTS. If he cant achieve it then its time to say good bye - there cant be any more bad luck stories.

Lets face it with the technical ability of Hoilett, Petrovic, Formica, Rochina, Vukcevic, Olsson, Dunn available for him to choose from it SHOULD be a good midfield. Oh and with the quality of the above players I think Yakubu makes sense - they should create enough for him even if he doesnt quite have the legs he used to have.

With regards to Petrovic I think he is the nearest player we have to Tugay since well Tugay! I do genuinely think he has that much ability.

Also if he cant get a good defensive unit organised from Olsson, Givet, Danns, Samba, Nelsen, Salgado he should be shot (well I will accept fired).

SO ITS TIME FOR KEAN TO PROVE HE IS GOOD ENOUGH.

Petrovic is as good as Tugay? He must be some player then.

Top 5 - in no particular order

1) John Fashanu

2) Balaji (that would be spectacular)

3) Bob Carolgees

4) Kermit the Frog

5) Susan Boyle

Well sorry I meant it to come across as the nearest player to Tugay in terms of style of player. One that could sit deeper and have the passing ability to dictate things. A role Tugay was amazing at. We have not had a player capable of that since Tugay. I am not saying he is as good as Tugay though he may develope to that standard - you can only hope.

Is anybody else sick of seeing unimaginative headlines with Kean in the title - e.g. Rovers KEAN on Raul; Rovers KEAN on new signings. Kean as mustard, Kean as a cucumber....

Maybe I'm just having a bad day.

Chin up, stay positive.

Kean looking to offer new deals to some players

Anyone want to bet that Roberts and Dunny get new deals if Kean remains in charge?

Only Robbo and Hoilett need to be signed up imo.

I think you are absolutely right.

TBH, can't see Robbo signing under Kean and despite all the 'noise', Hoilett yet to sign.

Yeah it is slightly concerning. Would you sign again under Kean? Doubtful if you had choices elsewhere, especially if more money is involved.

Easy to forget how lucky we have been over the years. Hughes must have had some pull identifying and recruiting the quality he obtained at smallish money with the likes of Bellamy, Samba, Bentley, RSC, Oojer, etc...and brilliant management skills to get the best out of troublesome players like Benni, Bentley and Bellamy.

We will have a top class manager again one day. Everything comes...

Why? Do you know Robinson personally and he has informed you of his dismay towards Kean?

Or are you just making an assumption based on your own feelings about Kean? (yes I think he is useless before you ask)
