Kamy100 Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Everyone wanted 6 points from wba & bolton. To expect 6 points from qpr & newcastle is rediculous because it wont happern. 3 points from the two is most likely. Agree, 4 points from those two games would be great.

Tyrone Shoelaces Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Agree, 4 points from those two games would be great. The three points in that equation need to come from the QPR game though. It's not going to be easy with Hughes in charge there.
Stuart Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 The three points in that equation need to come from the QPR game though. It's not going to be easy with Hughes in charge there. Not sure about that - could be a good time to play Newcastle...
moerpho Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 We all want 6 points of course. Would people settle for 4 points from those two? Would people even settle for 3? I'd settle for 4. Only 6 points will be good enough! I still think those home losses to Brom and Notlob will prove to be deadly nails in our coffin. Even though we don't play Barcodes untill feb 1th there is still time for teams around us to add to their squads. Can only see a weakened Rovers against a somewhat strenghtened Newcastle despite missing Tiote, Ba and Cisse as they still have money to spend. Keeping Samba and Hoilett both happy and at the club is essential but looks an impossible task. Ok...we took 4 points from Manchester United and Liverpool but today showed that the other teams at the bottom of the table can do it as well. That's why it is so utterly important to win those "6-pointers"! I really have tried to put a positive spin on the results of late, but looking at our coming fixtures I can't for the life of me see how we will survive. Tinkering with bbc.co.uk PL-predictor puts Blackburn at a maximum of 34 points and thats being really really positive. Still...won't be enough to keep us up. If fans like me are to believe we are staying up we need: 1. Clean sheets 2. A convincing win against relegation rivals 3. Some sort of communication from the club with the fans Etc etc...can't really be bothered to type it once again as it's been done to death on here. I'll say it again: 6 points is the absolute minimum of what to expect from the next two home games! 6 points and I will start to believe we might be playing PL football next season as well....
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Not sure about that - could be a good time to play Newcastle... Could be, let's hope so. Only 6 points will be good enough! Unfortunately you're probably right.
Parsonblue Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 I thought we were excellent today but still we couldn't put back to back wins together. Ultimately it is our failure to keep clean sheets that is preventing us from winning games. Once again, results today suggest that we are looking at a 3 from 5 battle to avoid relegation. So many of the clubs in that group above the bottom five picked up three points today that the gap simply continues to widen. If we are to survive we will need to avoid defeat against the four clubs around us and, in all probablity we will need to beat them. I didn't expect Bolton to win and the fear must be that if they go on a run the Rovers are going to have to match them. Unfortunately, our inablity to win back to back games coupled with home defeats at the hands of Wolves, Everton, WBA and Bolton is likely to cost us dear. Everton, for example, are a dreadful team and yet we have only picked up one point out of six against them.
D-side17 Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 I'll say it again: 6 points is the absolute minimum of what to expect from the next two home games!. 6 points is the MINIMUM you expect from two games?? You really are a hard task master! I'd love to know what the maximum is that you'd expect.
jim mk2 Posted January 21, 2012 Author Posted January 21, 2012 Like the home game against Everton Rovers were much the better side today yet they have taken 4 points from us. We are still unable to keep a clean sheet and you could see the gaping hole left by Samba when Everton had 2 free headers in the last 5 mins both of which they nearly scored from. The departure of Samba would be a huge blow. Losing at home to the likes of Bolton and Wolves, West Brom etc means we have to win the corresponding away fixtures. Terrible day for us really with Bolton, West Brom and QPR all winning. Kean might be enjoying our better form but we are in the situation now where draws are not going to be good enough.

Exactly correct, proof is in the pudding, with a win Rovers would have 20 points and be out of the drop zone. Draws won't be good enough. Simple as.
BRFCfor83 Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 If we took a point from each of the remaining 16 games it wouldn't be enough for me. My only hope is that Wigan, wolves & Bolton do worse than us as I think QPR will survive the drop with sparky at the helm.
redroses Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 for me we have to beat Newcastle, wigan, norwich and qpr at home, avoid defeat at swansea, Bolton and west brom. Sod united, Liverpool, spurs, city and chelsea as I'd sacrifice our better results this season at united and Liverpool for 4 draws against the dross that turned us over at home. Its basically gonna be decided on head to head results. We simply cannot allow the dross to take 6 points from us. If they do we are down.

Simple as. Draws are better than defeats ...Getting something from each game will help enormously ..Personally I think we will go down but we have more of a chance of staying up than many thought we would have by February 1st..
Audax Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Rovers' last 5 games: Swansea away Norwich home Tottenham away Wigan home Chelsea away As an example then one can look at the other teams vying for survival as well: Bolton's last 5: Spurs home Swansea home Sunderland away West Brom home Stoke away It doesn't matter if one looks at the last 5 or the last 8, they are arbitrary numbers but figuring that some teams in the drop zone can stay in striking distance of the rest, Swansea and so-forth, I know last season, it all came down to the last weeks, it was so tight. Those last weeks, we didn't know if Blackpool or whom were going to end up going down. Also as I previously said, I think Birmingham just needed to eek out one victory in there last few games but just could not do it and went down despite if memory serves me correctly, not really being in the drop zone for much of the year if practically any. West Ham was pretty much assured of going down with ? about 2 weeks left in the season. This will be key. Just typing this on the fly.
Backroom Tom Posted January 31, 2012 Backroom Posted January 31, 2012 Wigan and wolves both lose tonight with Bolton and QPR playing tomorrow night, Bolton seem our only real chance of overtaking anyone
Paul Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 That presumes Bolton lose and we draw. It's not beyond belief we could win with QPR and Bolton losing life would look much better.
jim mk2 Posted February 1, 2012 Author Posted February 1, 2012 Another grotesque home defeat - our record at Ewood this season must be one of the worst in my six decades of watching at Ewood. Playing "well" as some seem to think we doing and losing is relegation form. Compare and contrast with the scruffy wins under Sam. Newcastle were poor but took home the 3 points, which is all that matters. With regards to the new signing, Modeste by name and modest by nature - if that player is the answer I'm not sure what the question is. Why was he signed ? All in all another depressing night. Never changed my view since the start of the season that we will be relegated. Hope I'm wrong.
Backroom DE. Posted February 1, 2012 Backroom Posted February 1, 2012 With regards to the new signing, Modeste by name and modest by nature - if that player is the answer I'm not sure what the question is. Why was he signed ? Because we have no money and neither our owners nor our manager really have any idea what they're doing. I've also been convinced for some time we were going to be relegated. Losing 2-1 at home to Wolves on the opening day of the season set the precedent for what has been a woeful season thus far. Was shocked to open the Newcastle thread and see people predicting we'd win. How anybody can have any faith that we'll win a match with Kean in charge is genuinely beyond me. Either blind hope or sheer idiocy. The only question remaining is whether he'll still be in charge to take us down to League 1?
Backroom Tom Posted February 1, 2012 Backroom Posted February 1, 2012 Another chance gone, we have wasted too many, we know what's around the corner, that miniscule bit of hope kind of makes it worse.
roverandout Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 its 4 into 3 now, qpr will pull away so it leaves us wigan, wolves and bolton, wigan look doomed already so basically then its us wolves and bolton for last two spots, lets see if sordell is the rabbit in the hat for bolton, coyle has a habit of pulling them out with sturridge and wilshere in the past!!!

Really looks like last year where the last month was crucial. Per the standings, still, Bolton and the Rovers haven't done too bad in the last 5 games. Rovers, 7 points out of 15 possible points, Bolton 8 of 15 and good show to draw Arsenal. http://www.soccerway.com/national/england/premier-league/2011-2012/regular-season/ Bolton's not pulling away but if they are in some sort of good form and prove it, playing Norwich next, Arsenal Rovers coming up as well, could really be trouble in the air. But this result today is very frustrating, it feels like squandering chances. Still, there is Newcastle at 5th ahead of Arsenal and Liverpool, still feels like a very bad result, why don't we ever get clubs on an off day! QPR Wolves, crunch game especially for Wolves. Stage is set.
Telf Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Who is Keith Andrews? http://www.google.com/3834-who_is_keith_andrews.html
purplegrover Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Who is Keith Andrews? http://www.google.com/3834-who_is_keith_andrews.html Obviously from his quote, he was going to be the man to keep us up this year ! *cough* Incidentally, I actually don't disagree with his quote if its aimed at management transfer dealings - it's just that he's kidding himself if he thought he was ever going to have a big role to play. Lets see how he does at the Baggies I spose.
BRFC1995 Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 with our squad once yak leaves with hoillet, samba, givet, olsson in the summer we are as likely to see premier league football again as a sheffield club, whereas wigan who are bottom right now i think will stroll the championship with they're squad, wolves as well. Future planning for this club just does'nt seem to have happened regardless of all the young players being played and sell on value BS that numbnuts euligises about as who in tey're right mind thinks any of them will get us promoted.

Paul Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Two things absolutely baffle me. First we still have a shout at getting out if this mess - how bad are the rest? Secondly I think we've actually been able to create or had three opportunities to get ourselves out of the mess. The first after the Swansea game, the second following magnificent results over Chrismas and last night. How many more chances do we expect to get?
