Guest Rovers4Good Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Is this a windup? EDIT: Just realized Vinny didn't actually score the second goal... Still, when as the last time he scored in a Rovers shirt? Has it even happened? No windup, Grella got the 1st with a great taken goal and the second was scored by Osayamen Osawe after a great shot by Grella from 25 yards out which the keeper spilled.

MarkBRFC Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 .....and so the Grella cycle starts again. A brief glimmer of hope..... ....and then he'll pick up an injury in training tomorrow and be out of the squad for Sunday. This is exactly what will happen, it's far to obvious.
Iceman Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Play Givet, as the defensive mid alongside Nzonzi
Exiled_Rover Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Play Givet, as the defensive mid alongside Nzonzi He's not mobile enough for that. Play him at LB and free up Olsson.
Boltinho Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Goalscorers Grella, Slew and Lowe in that order. Goalscorers Grella, Slew and Lowe in that order.
Andy Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 As I've said before, Grella is a fantastic player if/when fully fit. He's by far our best midfielder, the players themselves acknowledge this, it's just the 'keeping him fit' that's obviously always been the problem.

Don't know about that (Hoilett perhaps?) but I think he's our best holding midfielder when fit. Better tackler than N'Zonzi and a better forward passer. Very slow though. If he's there to play alongside N'Zonzi it allows us to bring Petrovic along slowly rather than rushing him. Obviously will wait to see him play more than two games in a row before holding my breath. Positive signs though.

Salgado, for example, would agree that Grella is our best centre midfielder - he also thinks we would have played less direct under Sam if Vinny could have stayed fit more often.

Miker Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 As I've said before, Grella is a fantastic player if/when fully fit. He's by far our best midfielder, the players themselves acknowledge this, it's just the 'keeping him fit' that's obviously always been the problem. I've maintained this as well from the start, but can understand why people have lost patience with him (as I have) and consider him a dud. I would love to see him become a success at the club, especially now that he's the only Aussie there. On another note, do people that have watched Slew and Lowe in action think they can challenge for a first team place this season?
daverich Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 I maybe in the minority here but when fit I have never really rated Grella, granted he breaks play up well, but his passing is often wayward and he gives silly free kicks away and gets needlessly booked. Or is it just that he has never stayed fit enough to have a sustained run in the team to really show what he can do.
Lathund Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Or is it just that he has never stayed fit enough to have a sustained run in the team to really show what he can do. At least partly down to this. I can only recall a couple of occasions where he was fit and played 3-4 games in short succession. Basically you can count the games he's been match fit for on one hand. He looked good in those games.
John Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 You interview Salgado? Spoke with him, in some depth, a few months ago.

He can pass okay, and is aggressive in the tackle. But the other side of the coin is that he's slow, often the game passes him by and loses posession often with speculative balls.
OZTHEMAN Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Play Givet, as the defensive mid alongside Nzonzi That is where he played when we beat LFC last season..
chaddyrovers Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 That is where he played when we beat LFC last season.. Did we??? I don't think so. Givet played Left back against Liverpool at Home. Rovers team was Robinson; Salgado, Samba, Nelsen, Givet; Hoilett, Dunn, Pedersen, Olsson; M Diouf, Benjani. http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/blackburn_rovers/news/8772795.TEAM_NEWS__Samba_back_as_captain_for_LIverpool_visit/

You need the ability to pass the ball well to play there - and that's Givets biggest weakness - his distribution is awful.
alexanders Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Givet as def mid is the worst thing I've heard in a long time. He has none attributes to make it a midfielder.
Guest Rovers4Good Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 How did Scott Dann? Did alright, not too much for him to do but looked to keep the defence organised.
bazza Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 How did Scott Dann? Yes. How did Scott Dann do? Did he have a reet good ding-dong do or was he crap?
