I've watched a couple of clips of ex pros on MUTV and find it a bit annoying about their comments on some of the ins and outs of some of our tranfsers made over the past month or so.

First of all i heard Paddy Crerand mention that Blackburn fans should be very angry about the fact that Phil Jones was sold at an absolute bargain.

Then i've just seen Gordon McQueen firstly saying that he cannot believe we bought Yakubu as he looks like Adele (quite funny) and that Man Utd's best signing over the past couple of years has been Phil Jones and he believes that Jones will keep either Ferdinand or Vidic out of the team.

I just wondered what are other Rovers fans views on this and do you feel that we are becoming more and more of a laughing stock amongst other clubs, players and fans?

Quite frankly, let them get on with it. It's only themselves they show up. Sticks and stones etc. Stand proud, we are not some Johnny come lately from Newton Heath <_<

Cool, i love your signature :) Something tells me though that the big heart you talk about was ripped out of this football club the moment the walker trust got their hands on it. :(

We definitely sold Jones too cheaply, he'll be worth double that in a couple of years. Its tricky though, this is a tactic that big clubs now deliberately use, buy players extremely young to reduce the amount they have to pay for them. Rovers probably thought "£16m for a 19 year old? Great stuff!" which is exactly what Man Utd wanted us to think. The release clause shouldn't have been in there and the fact that Venkys didn't even realise it was is the only particularly embarassing thing about all that.

The comment on Yakubu is presumably just a joke. If McQueen seriously thinks buying a player who cost Everton £11.5m for £1m is a bad bit of business then he's an idiot.

I've only been embarassed about Venkys in relation to our own support. Don't see any point in caring what opposition fans/the media think. They always have something to dig us about: bought the title, dirty under Hughes, half-empty ground, hoofball, taking up space in the PL instead of a more interesting bigger club. Rovers are never gonna win any popularity contests in the wider football world regardless of what we do so who cares, as roversmum says let the gloryhunting plastics mock.

Sweet good post and yes the heart is still beating and let's hope we can maintain that. :)

Yes no Venky's at any of our games so far apart from a 60 minute cameo at Villa, good going Venky's. :)

I bet Sporting Lisbon think they sold Ronaldo too cheaply. At the time though he'd just gotten in to their team and if anything it looked like United had paid rather a lot for him.

There's no point looking at transfer fees with hindsight. You'll never do anything else.

I find the 'man in the street' in general, even if a supporter of another club, has empathy with Blackburn Rovers. I am rarely without either the Rovers badge pinned on my jacket, a scarf or a shirt and very rarely find people say anything derogatory. If they do, I merely tell them it's my club and I'm not about supporting any other, to which they either back off or engage in reasonable discussion.

It's always worth going on a ground tour to remind yourself of our great history and whilst doing so to note that we have a fair haul of trophies, some of which no other clubs have.

Arte et Labore.

What we need to remember is that the media has decreed that football is now all about the 'top' clubs. Which one of this MASSIVE clubs will spend the most to win the league, which clubs will achieve what all kids dream of- to finish 4th in the table.

The rest of us just exist, we try and stay in the league, those outside try and get in it for the payday. The glory fans just can't understand how we keep motivated for mid table finishes, nothing to play for etc.

So, its these 'fans' that try and take the mick, but bugger 'em a Yernited 'fan' who wouldn't know his way to OT if you dropped him off outside the Stretford End will never understand what football is really all about.

Jones signed a 5 year contract with a 16.5 million pound cause, if he would have stayed 3 years, he still could have listened to offers for 16.5m in 2014.

We shot ourselves in the foot, we must have valued him at 16.5m.

I'm not 100% certain he will be worth more then 25 - 30 million in his career by which time we would have recouped 20.5 million. Obviously he has huge potential.

I think Terry, Ferdinard probably peak at about 30 milllion.

In reply to Mattyblue, it does make it a bit hard to take, when we got all the talk of 'buying the league' when in reality we didn't spend more than United for example. Yet look at clubs like City and Chelsea who have so much money it's unreal but are lauded without respite. I'm not too bothered about that though. I'd like a good cup run, a Europa Cup run now and again and a top ten finish each year but that will do me. It's far more satisfying to me to trounce a team that thinks it only has to turn up to win now and again.

When Rovers won the league there was only going to be a couple of teams that could have challenged and one being Man Utd and yes some may say we bought the league but i say we just but a team that had the individual abilities to mount a challenge but we went that one step further but it's a shame that we couldn't maintain that.

From then on it was all about money, money, money and that's when the Champs League started to really take off and so on the death of the real Premier League.

Going back to when Rovers won the league, i remember reading David Batty's autobiography where he called Rovers the Pub Team Millionaires were they would turn up to training on pitches with Dog mess on (either Pleckgate or Pleasington) and they would train for an hour or so then have to take their training kit home and wash it themselves and that it was like playing for a pub team which you wouldn't find that happening now. :)

It wasn't MUTV it was some clips on You Tube which linked to commenst made about Rovers. ;)

 I did write that and deleted it, but you must be bored to watch that channel. I figured out he must not have watched it when he said clips.

I still cannot understand fans for critisizing the club for selling Jones.

a. He wanted to leave despite all the club tried to do to convince him to stay.

b. We got the best price we could for a relatively untried, very young player.

c. All players have a price and there is nothing a club can do when that player decides to leave.

d. And before any one blames Kean, I don't believe for one minute that any manager Rovers had would have made a jot of difference when United came calling.

Who the hell cares what Paddy Crerand or any ex Manchester United player says about our club. There are far too many pundits with opinions about clubs they have no connection to.And the club has not lost it's heart at all. It may beat with a different rythm but it beats proud and strong.

It was a man who wanted to create 'THE UNTOUCHABLES' he knew what he was doing and some people think he is real reason PJ was sold he had three years to go yet he was made to sign a new contract on the cheap bung bung just so that it would have an exit clause on it and a cheap one at that...MAYBE !!

Sad to see Judas go but the hype and that's is all that it is..these guys have to make is sound unbelievable to the adoring blind who will pay money for players these guys will call the next Messi.. or in their eyes BEBE ..Have you watched the MUTV interview on that you would have been wonder-struck??

Those who blame Venky's must ask themselves if the people who didn't know what a midfielder was, then contract clauses are something far in the sunset BUT for them but it was a good learning curve for them..

DDSK OUT !!

Yes. Nail on head.

We sold Phil for an appropriate amount of money for his talent and experience at the time.
