Amo
shearer is already a legend at rovers. If he saves us from this mess he will be immortal. I'd honestly stick with Kean over Shearer. At least he has the comedy value.

47er
shearer is already a legend at rovers. If he saves us from this mess he will be immortal. mark hughes would still be the safest option. We know what we get, but with hughes we also know he will jump ship if he gets an improved offer from a bigger & better club. If shearer is successful i actually think he might stay here for a while. From a venky standpoint: they will probably try to sign someone who will makes the fans happy. Think both hughes and shearer will make many fans happy, not sure who is the favourite among the majority of fans. Could Shearer organise us defensively? Hughes could. Doug
Shearer isn't the answer, (although I would love him at the club perhaps as a coach/assistant).
47er
What manner of drivel is this? Kean added: 'Because the players don't play well with the ball for one half of one game does not mean the negativity is getting to them.' whalleyrover
Great news that Kean is probably on his way but don't get carried away. Can we trust Venkys to appoin a new managerf, and our other problems will not go away. THE ONLY WAY FORWARD IS VENKYS OUT.
Puffsan
Could Shearer organise us defensively? Hughes could. well i think he could. He has little experience as a manager, but hes played at the top level in a very turbulent club for many years, he can handle the pressure. although he has not been coaching og managing he has worked with football since he retired, and he probably has learned alot on how to organize things and what to do. if he got the motivation and the desire to be a manager i think he may do good. But it is a very risky pick. As i said earlier hughes would be alot safer option
beerwins
Souey till the end of the season, only real option I can see, he will install fight back Into the team and that will be enough defensively, we have showed we can score but can't stop the other team scoring , souey will stop that. Shearer or Grant are not an option as far as I am concerned, both have failed keeping teams up before and now is not the right time, not like that will effect the owners decision. He was a first-class player, but somewhere along the line that's been confused for football genius. The man is happy to be a stuffed shirt on MOTD paraphrasing Alan Hansen than get his hands dirty in management, because he knows he'll be found out, as he was when he tried to save Newcastle. He couldn't even give his boyhood club the boost to stay up. Seriously, I feel like breaking something whenever I hear some gooey-eyed fan still living in 1995 put his name forward. JamieUK
To appoint somebody with as little experience as Shearer would be a sideways move. We need somebody who's been there and got the t-shirt - Be that Hughes, Souness, Curbishley, etc.
Puffsan
im probably blinded by my old love for him. and he is not the best option for the situation we're in. But im not the one hiring a new manager. IF he were to get the job he would get my full support, and nothing would make me happier seing him being sucessful with rovers (apart from maybe colin hendry). roverandout
at least shearer would attract some decent players.

Even Avram Grant would be a better choice, and if Nixon is correct in touting Grant, we are already scraping the absolute dregs of the barrel in terms of available managers. Shearer as manager ?!?***?!?? Christ I just hope the mail journalist was having a laugh. Presumably the Rao's don't have to sit through his weekly MOTD 'insights' back in Pune. Doug
If, by a strange turn of events, we got Hughes and Shearer, they'd take one look at our forwards and decide to become player manager and assistant player manager!!!
TugaysMarlboro
If he hasn't gone by Thursday at the absolute latest, then it is an absolute travesty. He should have his P45 on his desk tomorrow morning really, but Venkys move slower than a glacier. I'll give anyone a chance to succeed, my confidence in Kean disappeared a long time ago, surely now there can be no sensible, well thought out supporter who believes Steve Kean is the right man for the job. The Bolton game/result shouldn't matter, as someone stated earlier, every team will win a game here or there. I worry that he's still in charge, I worry he'll keep getting another chance with any win he gets. Offer Hughes whatever he wants for 6 months, with a hefty bonus for keeping us up and as much cash as they can scrape together for January transfers. I know I can only dream, but I'm desperate, an SOS to Hughes is required.
savage90
I can't understand how a win against bolton could ''save'' him? So if we beat Bolton its okay for this mess to continue? Time to be ruthless Venky's and save yourselves, not Kean.

No no no. Not shearer please not Grant please, I'd take just about anybody else. Don't think Dave Jones is a bad shout.
hesfromburn
To be honest kean should have gone so long ago Id take any of the names mentioned including shearer & grant. ANYONE will be better than kean. And I doubt venkys could sort out hughes calibre of manager, with the shambolic way the club is being run, shearer, grant, d jones or the mascot would be better than kean at this point
Backroom Tom Posted December 19, 2011 Backroom Share Posted December 19, 2011 Bloody hell here we go again. No no no. Not shearer please not Grant please, I'd take just about anybody else. scotty_beam_me_up
Dave Jones is SEM, no thanks My fiver was on Dave Jones last time purely because he is at SEM. I think my fiver would be on him again unless Venkys are swayed by a "big name" whatever that means. But if it was my choice my order would be Hughes, Benitez, Souness, Curbishley. Grant and Shearer should be no where near us. We need a proven manager with his own backroom staff.
BPF
Two points: 1. This is Venkys we are talking about. Why are we discussing a new manager like Kean has gone? Furthermore, even if that was the case - do you really expect them to make the right decision. Do you think it will even be a sensible decision. At this stage I would say the favourite would be Clement. 2. How many times does poor Alan have to tell the media he has no interest?!
Steve Moss
Shearer or Grant are not an option as far as I am concerned, both have failed keeping teams up before and now is not the right time, not like that will effect the owners decision. I agree. On the other hand, they're both better than Kean. So I'd take them, but would also resign myself to relegation. Offer Hughes whatever he wants for 6 months, with a hefty bonus for keeping us up and as much cash as they can scrape together for January transfers. I know I can only dream, but I'm desperate, an SOS to Hughes is required. This is the answer which is most likely to salvage the season. I wonder if Venkys have the brains, spine and cash to make it happen?
