  1. 1. Should Steve Kean be sacked

Recommended Posts

Do you really think he will answer all those uncomfortable questions sincerely? Steve Kean won't meet with the fans in the current climate.

He's been saying he would for months!!!

I wish he'd just do the right thing and resign. Any other person in any other job would...

It's like trying to overthrow a dictator.

Maybe someone needs to investigate exactly why our players are sustaining all these injuries. I appreciate that Dann and Givet's problems are most unusual the others are falling injured far too often. I wish I could have hope that the squad will be strengthened in January but unfortunately I don't. Sad days.

You must feel very let down, betrayed even?

Looking at the backroom staff on the official site, I think it's bizarre that we have 9 people on the team that would be working on the fitness and health of the team, yet we're still getting so many injuries. I don't think other clubs have anywhere near this many.

Welcome back to the real world Roversmum. They had you fooled for a while though.

Without reading the article I can only assume it means getting Hoilett and Samba out of here as soon as possible. Oh the joy!

Exactly.

How else are we going to fund players coming in?..the Rao's are pulling their faces about paying back 10 million owed to a bank never mind splashing some 5-10 on incoming players...the whole situation is laughable(not)!

More Bull from the twisted mind of TEFLON Steve.

I'm just in sheer admiration of the man.

"There's no reason why we can't turn things round with a couple of positive results and kick on into the new year."

Many people expected conversations between executives of Indian owners Venky's and their manager this week to centre around Kean's position, but not so according to the man himself

"We talk about what I feel is the most important things. The conversations have mostly been about players' health and players coming in."

I know there's far from 9 people working on Rovers 1st team, it's mainly just Howard n Rush. one of the biggest issues we have is a lack of scientific knowledge, not one Phd, disgrace. I know Howard is doing one but at best it will take him 6 years. I do wonder how much has just been transplanted from man city? I too know 1st hand exactly how city structure everything and it's alright for maintaining fitness levels but it won't get us to the levels we need to be. Rovers desperately need more expertise in this area.

And there I was thinking Mrs D was in charge. He's making her look a fool too! And I thought they were friends.

You would never guess that Kean is talking to people who know NOTHING about football - imagine what they talk about, cringe worthy stuff...

Well apparently they don't talk finances. There is a structure at the club that deal with that.

So it narrows down what their conversations are about - perhaps the decor in Kean's office?

Roversmum just wanted to believe in the best for Rovers.

They had The Walker Trust fooled as well, and that was far more important.

Wanting to believe in the best for Rovers is one thing!

Telling us all venky's are going to be a success because they are nice people who promised us the world, then when everyone told her she is wrong, she took the 'well i have met them personally' highground.

Some will say, well in hindsight? i'd say it was blind faith.

Well, I guess now we know where Steve got the idea to sack Jensen from.

Ha! +1

Thought the exact same thing. Bitter much?

It's not often you hear of an assistant being binned, Kean must have been performing particularly poorly or of a particular negative influence to carry the can in that position.

Alternate possibilities:

1. Poor fitness- Which would not surprise me in the slightest, considering our abbreviated pre-season and other reports.

2. Punishment- Per rumor, Kean has a habit of benching those who offend him (Kalinic?).

3. Sales- If someone is on the market, bench him so his re-sale value is protected.

4. Player strike- A player who doesn't want to play (and be fined, ala Tevez) can simply claim injury/sickness.

5. Bad luck/legitimate injury- Which is possible but, being a cynic who trusts Kean naught, I lean more towards nos. 1-4.

I remember Souey's squads getting some dubious injuries in that every season there seemed to be a 'fashionable' one - i.e. one year everyone got hamstring problems, another year they all got something else and so on. It certainly seemed towards the end of his tenure that the squad were as unfit as we had seen them, and this was verified when Hughes came in and set about sorting fitness issues out.

I have created a graph of league positions under Venkys. I think its mostly right but I may be a game or two out - plus it's also upside-down so it looks like they've had a positive effect (couldn't figure out how to flip the values). I will therefore call this the "Steve Kean version" - more ups than downs!

Seeing as the chart already past the "20" mark, I'm guessing you've already been relegated :o

Sparky is big on Sports Science, so is Big Sam. Any modern pro would love to work under those conditions as it means often prolonging a relatively short footballing career with 4-6 years. I don't know about Kean and the current setup, but I doubt the apparatus around the first team squad is as good as it has been in the past considering cutting costs and the fact that nobody has highlighted this during Kean's reign.

Whether unfit or not I'm not to judge, but sometimes people overtrain too. I remember we got an Italian fitness specialist in (during Hodsgon's tenure?) where we suffered a lot of injuries. It happens. Still, look at Arsenal - they're state of the art on every aspect but still suffer a bucketload of injuries every season. Coincidence or are they doing something wrong? Players are suffering different injuries, blaming lack of fitness training on Dann's broken ball is a bit over the top. Robinson is getting up there and a calf injury at 30+ isn't uncommon. Explosive players like Hoilett tend to develop hamstring problems, and Nelsen has been injury prone for a few years now. Once muscle injuries start to appear, it's hard to stop a downward spiral.

Despite our problems, Kean has had problems setting up the right approach for games. Tactically he isn't able to implement a gameplan that gets us enough points to survive. Do I think Kean is the main problem? No. Is he a good manager? No.

Get Venky's out, then Kean will follow out the door with them...
