  1. 1. Should Steve Kean be sacked

Recommended Posts

It's about quality not quantity.

Just so! ^_^

I wouldn't sack Coco now by the way so another poll is pointless imo. I'm sure most would feel its too late with only 10 games to go.

However I want him out the day the season finishes, whatever the outcome, for the reasons that Gumboots gave.

Last summer would have been the perfect time to 'let Kean go' but I reckon that this would have been tantamount to admitting a mistake on the part of Venkys and I get the impression that they don't do that.

I don't think this will be the case this summer. It is quite feasible for Venkys to bin Kean after two years on the pretence that they have done so as it is time for a change.

I think he could go in the close season. I believe this would give us a threefold problem. Firstly, I think Kean has something as a coach and has improved, he's also not stupid and will have learned from experience. The pain we have endured on Kean's learning curve will have been for nought and somebody else will get the benefit.

Secondly, we saw the Wolves shortlist - hardly inspiration was it?

Which brings up the third issue - would the likes of Steve Bruce work for Venkys? Their (and Rovers) stock is so low at the moment that I doubt it. We would probably have to go down the Ince route with a gamble on an up and comer. Di Canio would be great, Keith Hill might be ok, more likely would be damaged goods like Lee Clarke.

Or an Indian coach.

Not the best which ever way you slice it.

Keep posting Braddock.

25 points from 28 games would have seen us some way from safety in most seasons. The return is utterly unacceptable, so Kean still should go. If he actually ever gets our points total above 1 per game, that might be the time to reconsider.

by that logic the same goes for Martinez, Coyle and maybe Hughes.

How gracious of you. I hope some day your employer let's it be known that you're crap at whatever it is you do, then uses you to gain company survival, then fires you off. :tu:

But he is crap, you don't have to invent hypothetical situations for me!

49 games for 47 points should tell you he should have walked long ago.

When you add the lies, the spin and the machinations against the fans of his own team its a no-brainer.

I don't actually have an employer but if I did, and performed as badly as Kean has I couldn't complain if I got my cards.

Finally you can't "use" somebody who's as useless as Kean and the implications of your reasoning there are mind-boggling.

If we avoid relegation by the skin of our teeth for the 2nd season in a row, you seem to think that is a worthy achievement!

If he saves us from relegation (in your thinking) who got us in this mess in the first place?

You can't have it both ways you know!

Given a bit of thought to this.

Kean is a vile individual and dire manager in my view. So to DGS’s point – who would work for Venky’s? I really can’t imagine anyone within the football world who knows anything about what’s happening at Rovers would do. So as well as folk who could be called qualified – Bruce, Curbishley and the like – managers from lower down the scale such as Di Canio and Clarke wouldn’t come near us.

Which brings us to the Indian fakir option. Otherwise known as the bed of nails option. Cheap and cheerful. That is the only choice I can realistically see apart from keeping Kean. So the better alternative might be keeping Kean (and considering I find it hard to believe the Indian incompetents will ever get rid of him is it really an option?) hard though it is to stomach.

Which is why, Neil, most people have come to the conclusion that Venkys will have to go if our club is ever to improve (i.e. return to the level we were before they took over).

How damning is that? Progress represents reversing virtually everything Venkys have done.

The only thing that can make Venkys successful owners is for the whole of football to come crashing down. Possible but highly unlikely in the short term. We'll probably be in the third tier when that happens.

Didn't Rao's brothers want to change manager a couple of times???

I would like someone like Hoddle or Keegan if you want someone with experience.

Young managers someone like Karl Robinson or Dougie Freedman.

I don't think Mrs D will sack Kean at all!!! I'm not his biggest fan but he is here!!!

If Desai has an ounce of common sense about her (and cares about the direction in which the club has been heading for over a year now), she'll pot Kean as soon as the season has finished.

True, neither did as well for their clubs as McCarthy had done, as he had actually taken Wolves up after all. Martinez should have gone to Villa in the summer, and Coyle has had a nightmare 12 months or so.

Although Hughes has not been there long, and needs substantially more time.

I think loyalty with Martinez and Wigan as held both back ...Martinez would have been better off going to Villa would have done as well if not better than Mccleish.

Wigan could have got an experianced scrapper like McCarthy and with the players they already had would have more points now..It is conjecture , but must have crossed Martinez and Whelans mind !

I completely agree on the first point there. Whilst Martinez's loyalty is commendable, that was a big opportunity for him. Villa are probably one of the best clubs for an ambitious manager to be at outside of the top clubs.

If Wigan go down then he won't want to stay there and he will struggle to get a better offer in the PL. I'm sure Villa fans would be much happier now if he'd taken the reigns too. If he had the funds to bring in a goalscorer then I'm sure Wigan would be mid table by now, he gets them playing very good football but they just can't score often enough. Someone like Bent would score loads under Martinez.

I don't agree that Wigan would have been better off without him though. On the strength of the playing squad they are comfortably the worst team in the division. The only reason they stand a chance of survival is because of Martinez.

I agree it would have been a good move for Martinez but I don't agree it would have been good for Wigan. Just who is out there who could do a better job for them than Martinez, baring in mind McCarthy wasn't available? Their budget only goes so far. Maybe Allardyce would have done for them.
