  1. 1. Should Steve Kean be sacked

Recommended Posts

For me, the protest could be a good thing for all concerned. Lets face it, if we had lost today and the next two games, I still doubt he would have gone, however, it makes it clear that Rovers fans are not just a placid bunch that will take poor result after poor result and swallow BS from the manager.

The protest has served as a wake up call to player's,manager and owner's alike. If this has been the only outcome then I would still applaud it to high heaven.

A clear message has been sent out to all above mentioned....we,the fans, will not stand back and watch as 20+ years of hard work both on and off the field of play is carelessly destroyed.

Another eleven wins on the bounce and Kean's win percentage will be up to what Roy Hodgson's was when Jack fired him.

what was Hodgsons win percentage starting Jan 98?

Not wanting to defend Kean I don't like him but he certainly was not given Flowers, Hendry, Sherwood, McKinlay, Ripley, Wilcox, Gallacher and Sutton.

Slowly Hodgson introduced his own signings in Peakcock, Davidson, Dailly, Blake, Davies, Perez and Valery.

Hodgson had a good win percentage with Kenny's players and a horrible one when it truely became his team.

Kean's had a horrible win percentage with Sam's player and the rest is yet to be written, I'm not confident, but at least today we won.

Enjoyed the game. Kean can certainly claim with truth that the dressing room is right behind him. We played with an intensity that's been missing this season and showed up Arsenal's defence for what it is.

However, can that level of intensity be maintained over a season or was it the sort of intensity that occurs when a 1st Div side plays a Premier league team in the FA Cup? Time will tell, but for now Kean has some time on his side.

Has he the ability to capitalise on it? All the old frailties were there, particularly in the first half and towards the end of the game. Both full-backs were very exposed and, for some reason, Arsenal's attacks were directed down their right flank and poor Givet had 2 players to cover everytime. With the overlap Arsenal were able to get cross after cross in from dangerous positons. Where was our mid-field? Our first goal changed everything. It was such a relief to see a piece o fclinical finishing and belief soared after that.

In the end though, we were hanging on. We have absolutely no idea how to protect a lead. Only Yakubu and, to a lesser extent Olsson, were able to slow the game down, take it to less dangerous places, eat up the clock, draw the foul etc. Diouf would have been invaluable.

The rest lashed out at the ball like it was red-hot and set Arsenal up again.

Finally, some very good signs. N'Zonzi grew into the game, Ollson was great (why didn't he start?) and Jason Lowe looked the part.

Wonderful to get that first win but still want rid of Kean who won't save us from relegation. No-one moaning about Lady Luck I take it?

Not true. Unless you believe ten thousand people were going to be marching down Bolton Road at 11am?! Or as 1% marched, it is 1% that wanted him out.

Bit literal that ada, and disingenous by Kean, but that's our Steve.

I see your point Matty, but would you not have expected a greater turn out given the apparent unrest?

Fully agree 10k was never likely, but personally I would have expected more, a four figure number may have gone further to suggest it was more than a minority.

I feel sorry for Kean in many ways, it's a very public role he has and even a small number stepping out to voice their displeasure must make him very nervous.

I do not agree with all the character assassination that is taking place, IMO it is very unfair and until someone proves otherwise very unnecessary.

Anyway, as I said in my last post this has not really changed my mind, great result, but the old one swallow proverb is vey appropriate here.

For our teams sake I hope he goes on a great run, I believe we could get something at Newcastle next game.

I'm enjoying the result today as I've had a pretty crappy day apart from that lol.

I think we all, ultimately, want what's best for the club. I celebrated today's result just like I would any other. However, watching Kean's smug interview after the game took a little bit of that happiness away from me. Today's result was a good one. What's slightly annoying is that a win against Arsenal should be bonus points, but they're not. We're regaining three points we should have got from Wolves at Ewood, so at best we've levelled things up a bit rather than pushed on. Kean had no right to look or sound as smug as he did, no matter what the result. His overall record is still appalling and one result doesn't change that, nor does it erase the numerous bad feelings I've felt as a fan during his reign.

If we begin winning more matches and push up the table then great, I'd like nothing more than for the club to be successful. Indeed, I have no issue with Kean being successful, because his success will be our success. However, at this point in time I still have major reservations over whether Kean's the man to give us consistancy or success on any level. He certainly has no right at this point in time to dismiss the protestors as he did, nor look as smug and arrogant as he did in the post-match interview today. This result was a good start to righting the many wrongs we've had to witness over the past 9/10 months, but it's only a start. Kean's bought himself some more time, I hope he uses it well.

I'm not going to say any more about Kean or my feelings on this now, MOTD is on and I'm going to enjoy watching the highlights :)

Good stat? Rubbish - what a useless stat. Sam's win percentage never got up to Roy's either. So what? Can't we just enjoy today for what it is - a win against a decent team.

im prepared to give him more time, didnt like his comment that it was only 1% that protested so therefore the other 99% are behind him, still we won and that will give him a few more games but its one thing winning in front of sky cameras against a 'top team', its another winning against teams around rovers league positions, still not changing my vote as i think he still isnt up to the job.

You'll see I wrote the sentiment to enjoy the win on the game thread.

This is the sack Kean thread so yes it is relevant.

Found out today that the point on team fitness/match prep has been addressed.

We're taking a reserve team fitness coach from Man City within the next couple of weeks and he'll work directly with our first team.

Hopefully it'll help to prevent these niggly injuries and improve the squad's general fitness.

seriously? Why on earth has this not been addressed before? I am pretty sure the concept of fitness is not a revolutionary one in professional sport...

Yes-----felt exactly the same. On a good day it was a perfect opportunity for Kean to get closer to the fans who want him out. We are, after all, Rovers fans. I'm afraid he is a graceless weasel of a man.

One thing is certain,99% of fans are not behind him, even more so after that comment (given with his trade-mark smirk by the way)

Seeing as everyone on here is obsessed with stats and Keans 2 wins in 18 or 3 wins in 19 now, I thought I'd add some records of other Premier League managers:

Arsene Wenger - 3 wins in 16 games

Owen Coyle - 11 losses in last 14 games

Steve Bruce - 3 wins in 18 games

All much more experienced managers than Steve Kean and all with equally bad records. But do you see sections of their fans organising a protest march? No you don't and thats because stats don't tell the whole story.

Wenger, the second best manager the Premier League has ever seen and currently a board which doesn't allow him to match the wages of the big boys and therefore his club is in transition after losing key players.

Owen Coyle, results tailing off towards the end of last season after most of it being lauded by various pundits for the exciting football Bolton were playing.

Steve Bruce having to let big players like Darren Bent and Jordan Hendersen go and currently in a transitional period after a busy summer of new signings.

So my point is forget about these stats you anti-Kean lot are spouting and OPEN YOUR EYES. Look what Kean is trying to build and all the young talent we had in our side to beat Arsenal today. Its not going to happen overnight but the amount of attacking options we have at our disposal now compared to Big Sam's days is vastly superior. We now have someone who can put the ball in the net in The Yak.

Look at the own goals today and people say we were lucky but forgetting the excellent run by Lowe to win the free kick leading to our 2nd goal and Olssons excellent counter attack and run to set up the 4th!

Steve Kean took over in very difficult circumstances last year and for someone with little managerial experience to turn it round in the last 4 games WHEN IT MATTERED and get 8 points out of 12 was brilliant when all you doom mongers on her were calling for his head and saying we would definitely go down. He said judge him after the transfer window and we've had a good result away from home and beat a top 6 side at home. The team is now full of Kean's players and they are all developing game by game.

As I said to the three dimwits who were holding their Kean Out posters up before the game - GIVE THE GUY A CHANCE! When asked 'Where are you posters now?' after the game their reasoning was absolutely ###### spouting the same, we want him out 3 wins in 19 games claptrap, just as the guy who phoned up 606 was shot down in flames by Jason Roberts and was stuck for words when asked to explain his reasoning.

GET BEHIND YOUR TEAM - Kean is part of it! You never know, we might just get a few more good victories like today. One game doesn't make a season but its a start and I believe something good is building slowly at Ewood again.

Luck was on our side-----Yak was off-side,Robinson's late challenge was exactly the same as the Utd one at the end of last season which brought a pen and Arsenal missed enough chances to win 3 games.

I don't care, we desereved some luck after the Everton game but you can't deny we got it today.

As much as I'm delighted with today's result, I still don't think that this guy is up to the job and will not be able to take us where we won't to go as a team. We were still all over the place for long periods of the game and but for some bad finishing and fine goalkeeping, we would have been stuffed. As someone else pointed out to say that only 1% protested, so the other 99% are behind you is a total lie. Some people have a real problem with him as a person. I can't say that is much of an issue for me. His false optimism is infuriating, but other than that he seems like a decent enough guy. But as a manager, he's out of his depth and until he goes on a good run, I'll hold that opinion of him.

Kean has done too much damage to the club and caused too much heartache amond supporters for one lucky win to change the view of many that he should be replaced as manager. Any honest supporter would admit that were were very lucky to win today and the team has serious weaknesses that will be exposed over the course of the season. Kean needs a run of victories like today to quieten the doubters and even then I do not think he will over the fans. The mistrust has gone too far.
