  1. 1. Should Steve Kean be sacked

Seeing as everyone on here is obsessed with stats and Keans 2 wins in 18 or 3 wins in 19 now, I thought I'd add some records of other Premier League managers:

Arsene Wenger - 3 wins in 16 games

Owen Coyle - 11 losses in last 14 games

Steve Bruce - 3 wins in 18 games

All much more experienced managers than Steve Kean and all with equally bad records. But do you see sections of their fans organising a protest march? No you don't and thats because stats don't tell the whole story.

A true enough point, the big difference between those managers and Kean is that they all have previous experience and success (arguable with Bruce, don't rate him as a manager anyway). Kean's awful record was coupled with the fact he had absolutely no experience as a manager at any level and really doesn't deserve to be in the job in the first place, hence causing plenty of people (including myself) to feel extremely worried about Kean's ability to turn his record around.

Regardless, the time for protesting is over now. I still feel very uneasy about having Kean as our manager, and I completely support the protest and don't feel it was a waste of time at all, but with that win Kean will have bought himself a lot of time. At least until December. All we can do now is pray that Kean and his backroom staff solve the tactical deficiencies that still exist in our team, and we manage to pick up enough points to survive. I'll be supporting the players and the club no matter what, but this one win alone does not justify Kean's position as manager and I'm still uneasy over the situation.

Why? We're Rovers fans, not fans of anyone else.

I'd respond the rest of the post, but as it just comparing Kean to managers who have done far more in football management in every regard, I don't think there is much point.

Tell you what, if he actually ever gets us to the stage where we have more points than games played, I might then have a rethink.

4 points from 5 games?

Not just yet, ta.

As I said to the three dimwits who were holding their Kean Out posters up before the game - GIVE THE GUY A CHANCE! When asked 'Where are you posters now?' after the game their reasoning was absolutely ###### spouting the same, we want him out 3 wins in 19 games claptrap, just as the guy who phoned up 606 was shot down in flames by Jason Roberts and was stuck for words when asked to explain his reasoning.

Yeah, they are real dimwits by quoting a fact, aren't they?

As for those 3 wins, 2 of them were against those managers you had mentioned going through a crisis.

So, we have only won game in all that time against another manager...and that was a poor Wolves side who then turned us over at home. Today, we got lucky.

If we get 4 points from the next 2 Prem games that will take us to 8 points from 7 games. Just about acceptable. Any less and even Venky's can't be clueless enough to let him survive...

What about 12 points from last 9 games?

We just evened up the everton game

How? We missed two penalties. That ain't luck, it's incompetence...Luck won't get us the points at Newcastle, so we best start making our own...

Oh, and whichever tart is minus pointing all the posts that don't kiss Kean's Rse, why don't you try using words and having a discussion instead?

It's certainly an improvement, I agree. However, it needs to be sustained. Ultimately, what matters now is the league table this season. If we start moving up the board and adding points, last season will be forgotten, as will Sam or Hughes or whoever.

There is nothing in Kean's history in football that suggest he has what it takes to be a Premiership manager. Loads of otherwise good managers, in fact, can't hack it in the Prem either.

I can't see him standing out as different. If he proves his detractors wrong, it will be some feat.

Yes-----felt exactly the same. On a good day it was a perfect opportunity for Kean to get closer to the fans who want him out. We are, after all, Rovers fans. I'm afraid he is a graceless weasel of a man.

One thing is certain,99% of fans are not behind him, even more so after that comment (given with his trade-mark smirk by the way)

donut whingers out.

I don't know who's sponsoring Kenny's Magic Hat but he's put a minus on just about every post that's critical of Kean.

Its taken me ages to cancel them out!

This + - thing should go.

In some sense I like the +/- system... if I've written a post and it gets one or more minuses from posters whose opinions I respect then I'll reconsider what I've written. Doesn't mean I'll change my mind, necessarily, but it gives me recourse to consider what I've been thinking. The person giving the minus will usually have written a contrasting viewpoint (perhaps not in direct relation to what I've said) which I can reference to when considering my original opinion. I'm assuming that's part of what the system is meant to encourage. However, I do always look at who has given the post a minus... because certain posters do have an agenda with their points scoring, which is a shame as it renders the system useless.

Anyhow, that's all somewhat off topic! Kean still has something to prove to me before I can feel remotely comfortable with him being manager, and I'd like to know what the pro-Kean camp have seen to convince them he's the man to lead us forward. A lucky win today and an appalling previous record doesn't do it for me, not at the moment.

Difference between Kean and managers like Bruce and Wenger, is that both of them have gotten results consistently season after season. This is what really matters. If you look at someone like Moyes who goes on a bad patch of results every season, he still ends up having Everton finish 5th or fairly high up.

So for me, one or 2 good results doesn't suddenly make Kean a good manager. We scored 4 last night, but it was against a very poor and demoralised Arsenal team. This was the same team that lost 8-2 to United. Nonetheless, credit to Kean and the team for getting the win and the performance, if anything it's shown that we do have a team capable of getting a top 10 finish and this is what should be expected. I thought his changes worked really well today, bringing Olsson onto the left wing and moving Lowe into RB.

today's fortunate win will have bought him some more time, however, we may well look in a sorry state after the next few matches: Toon away, City home, QPR away, Spurs home, Norwich away and Chelsea home. Could see us losing the lot.

Your post suggests you are gutted that Blackburn Roves won v Arsenal today. You are naming teams you think will beat us? Did you name Arsenal this time yesterday? If you a really fan then stop what you are doing. Get behind our team.

I'm not singling out just you in this response (well I am owing to the quote) but to say we beat a team in crisis is ridiculous and could be used every time we win.

Every team has some sort of crisis be it injuries, losing streaks etc.

By the very nature of winning we exposed a weakness.

According to most we are a club in crisis...yet we won. People fail to be mentioning that though.

You can single out any post of mine that you like if you disagree with it, this is a messageboard after all and we all have different opinions.

I am very happy that we won today but remain very worried about the club.

Should Kean turn it around, we will all be happy. I'm not usually negative and have only really been so before during Ince's reign. Let's all hope Steve Kean manages to avoid his untimely end and proves to be a good manager for BRFC. I can't see it happening, but I really do hope it does.

I have been convinced we should be getting rid of kean however when I think of the start of this season in the cold light of day then...

V wolves.... Makeshift defence Weren't outplayed?

V villa... We always get beat there anyway

V everton.... Should have won and we played v well

V fulham..... We didn't play well but good away point

V arsenal.... Achieved a result we'd never in a million years imagined

Today's win could be the turning point... He's made some good buys he needs to learn fast, in my eyes today's win has bought him another 3/4 games

Still undecided myself on Kean but I agree with what you say RE the best for the club.

They're all good points to be fair. I think the important thing last night was that it was a game between two clubs in crisis. At the end of the match, it was only one club that would be all smiles with renewed confidence in their ability, and luckily it was us. Hopefully this does kickstart our season, as quite easily the opposite could be true. Now we're looking with a lot more positivity up the league table and Arsenal are stuck in the mire.

V wolves.... Makeshift defence Weren't outplayed? definitely outplayed, we were powderpuff and Wolves were good... we had defensive issues but were tactically a total mess

V villa... We always get beat there anyway no excuse for the performance or tactical destruction!

V everton.... Should have won and we played v well agreed, though that was the poorest Everton side to come to Ewood for some time

V fulham..... We didn't play well but good away point agreed technically a good point, still justified concern with how poorly we played, and never looking like we'd be able to defend our lead

V arsenal.... Achieved a result we'd never in a million years imagined

Today's win could be the turning point... He's made some good buys he needs to learn fast, in my eyes today's win has bought him another 3/4 games

Today's win was nice but let's not make excuses... it's been a poor start to the season and Kean has deservedly taken criticism for it. Similarly he deserves praise for today's match and if we continue to win I'll have no issue with him at all. I still see big problems ahead if our tactical errors aren't erased quickly, but if Kean solves these and we keep winning then great. I've nothing personal against Kean, he just has no past history to draw respect from - therefore he can only be judged by his current tenure which has by and large been very disappointing. If we go on a good run and we finish mid-table/top half this season I'm sure he'll earn plenty of respect from many fans... but he has to prove himself first before people can start to put their faith in him, and I think that's reasonable enough.

I think it should be kept. Simply because I think it's funny that you would go to all that trouble.
