  1. 1. Should Steve Kean be sacked

Recommended Posts

Agree John, he does work incredibly hard. If he isn't away watching upcoming opponents or scouting a player he arrives at Brockhall by 8.30 at the latest and is there till late. So he is a very hardworking manager, but he will always be judged on results, 6 wins out of 26 was always going to lead to the situation we have today with fans putting him under pressure.

One thing I have learnt in my career is that the hardest workers more often than not are trying to make up for their weaknesses.. my best programmers have been lazy barstewards but got more work done in 20mins than my 'hardest' worker could manage in an hour. This is especially prevelant in thinking jobs, those who don't work as hard tend to have the ability to step back from the work and find the right solutions, this might seem like a generalisation and of course is not always the case but thoughtout my career I have without a doubt found this to be the case.

Has there ever been, and I honestly am asking to see if one of the older members can perhaps come up with a name, an individual that has been so detrimental to the club as Steve Kean, from our entire history? We have had incompetent managers before, yes, but this man is simply vile. Has there ever been anyone worse?

NO, he is worse than Jim Iley

Could really be a case of damned if you do and damned if you dont as regards sacking the Charlatan!

Nope I don`t think so, we can`t get much more damned - it has got to be the right time to try something new and Rovers put their hands up and admit, its NOT working ! we need change at the helm before we are left with too large a mountain to climb back from.

If he cared about the club, he would resign and admit that he can`t succeed here, its gone too far now, he will never win the trust of the fans even if we are winning - be dignified and leave with some respect from the supportes by stepping down gracefull Kean - let the club try and recover with a fresh approach and go back back to coaching

I firmly believe he doesn't give a damn about the club Taggart. My point is that If they do sack him he WILL take us all down with him...a horrible, horrible man.

i very almost hate this man more than i love the club......and i feel crap about it but the fella is just about as unlikeable as it is possible to be without being a diddler.

i'd take a loss against arsenal if it meant played 7 lost 6, 1 point as he'd surely be gone now......that spawny win will f****** haunt us.

I imagine we are looking at at least 98% now

I'll wait for Glenn to reset it though as someone may be taking note of the final results of each poll

Looking forward to the poll being re set!!!

I reckon it will still be at about 95% Kean Out vote.

Unfortunately and despite the great efforts of the protestors today - getting a lot of coverage worldwide via Premier League TV - there is still a lot of apathy with fans. Why just leave early - on TV the Riverside looked half empty with a long time still to go. If angry/disappointed much better to get vocal against the cause - KEAN.

"It hurts us because it is a long time until our next game," Kean told Radio Rovers after the game.

Yeah, because we would suddenly be ace next game, Steve.

"I spoke to the lads in there and they are gutted because they felt we could have got something from the game particularly with the way we played in the first half.

They felt they could have got something from the game? Words fail me.

"I felt as though we had a good shape in the first half, we minimised the amount of chances that Manchester City had.

"I thought then that we just needed to have a bit more belief that when we got the ball we could go and create a chance.

Oh come on, when was our first chance, at 3-0 down?

"Up to the 55th minute there was nothing in the game and it takes a wonderful goal from the edge of the box, that goal knocked us back, instead of getting angry, we felt sorry for ourselves.

Nothing in the game? It was a matter of time. City had turned up the heat straight from the kick-off for the second half.

"What we haven't to do is feel sorry for ourselves, pick ourselves up, get back on the training ground at the next opportunity and work away and make sure that we minimise these chances.

It's been the same crap after every defeat for 10 months.

"We've to get ourselves back on a positive mindset, we've got to work on the bits that were good in the first half and we've got to then really respond and work even harder."

Simply doesn't know what he is doing and is out of his depth.

We have no chance of surviving with Kean as manager. No chance at all. There is also no way he will resign. Venky's, you got us into this mess...now, get us out of it.

On another thread, some posters were aghast at the thought of David O'Leary replacing Kean. A manager who might not originially have been a consideration, but I'd take him - and almost anyone else, for that matter - in an instant if it meant getting rid of Kean. How many Champions League semi finals has Kean got to? How many top-six finishes, as happened in all of O'Leary's seasons in charge except the last one.

In fact, I'd rather have no manager and get the players to sort it out by themselves. It obviously couldn't be any worse.

Kean is the worst manager in the history of Blackburn Rovers Football Club. That is not hyperbole, either. Just literal, hard, cold truth.

The nearest comparison i can think of is Jim Iley,he took over from Jim Smith.

He lasted a couple of months,we had a player on loan from Stoke City called John Gregory scored a few goals and looked very good but would not sign permanant because of the manager and went elsewhere pretty quick.

Players were not happy the fans certainly were not happy, datewise about 1979.

I have remained relatively impartial towards Kean. Always of the opinion that his performance levels were always likely to be below par due to his inexperience. For me the blame always lay with the decsion to give a man with such inexperience the job in the first place. In his early days i liked his positivity too. It always grated on me when Souness and Allardyce would run the club down. I truly believe in his early weeks in charge Steve Kean managed to steer the good ship Rovers through a tricky period of new ownership and knee jerk decsion making. I appreciate his 'pressers' have come under much ridicule, but he impressed me with the way he spoke. It was the measure of the man that he could remain calm and eloquent during turbulant times. This and some of the bolder and more entertaining approaches (Liverpool especially) gave me hope that he might be able to make a fist of management. I still believe he could yet manage this. However my main concern was could we afford to be the guinea pig? Could we afford to let Steve Kean learn from the mistakes all managers need to make in order to become a success longer term? It seems the answer to this is no.

I am not privy to the behind the scenes information that many on here have access to. As such i cannot muster the unwavering hatred towards him some express. The closest i came is when reading the comments he made to the board member on here after the Newcastle match. That was totally unacceptable. But I am also sure if he got the job by dastardly means then he deserves all he gets. His prolonged stay at the helm with all the stories surrounding the club and Kentaro does have a very nasty whiff about it. Anyway, i suppose i chose to look on the positive side. A trait i rarely portray. But sadly i can't see any way back for him now. It would take a miracle to get the fans back on side. But more worringly it seems obvious he has lost too many of the playing squad. His own signings are playing with so much fear they cannot settle and the old guard have all but disappeared.

However, all is not lost! If we act now (and it has to be now) we can save our season. This side has the makings of a decent mid table outfit. But this in itself just further enhances the need for us to part ways with Kean. Our back four is very very good on paper. Presently we are extracting about 50% of their potential. This is just not acceptable. An experienced manager with a back room staff unified and used to working together could save this season yet. We have got some real talent here and i would hate to see it frittered away in the name of stubborness.

K-Hod wrote: It couldn't be clearer that he needs to go. What excuse can he use to wriggle out of this?

K-Hod will probably be a variety from dew on the grass to other range of classics inc: no assistant, to various other whoppers I think our club shop could be onto a winner selling a Steve Kean box of excuses! I hope this poll is resetted would give us an idea how much descent fans are against him.

"I told the lads I will battle on for my players. Even the ones I didn't bring to the club I consider my players. I'll take the criticism on my shoulders and take it away from them."
