[Archived] Post Kean - Next Manager

Recommended Posts

Easy to see by some of the names put forward here that desperation has well and truly set in. Why does eveyone seem so sure a top name manager would not be interested. What better way to show you are a GOOD manager than take over a club in turmoil and fix it. Surely that would speak volumes about a persons ability rather than just ebig able to splash the cash. I sort of fancy Ancelotti meself,(not in THAT way) and reports are he is Kean to work in England again. Worth a phone call at least.

Ancelotti has said in the last few days that he wants to manage a big club in England - don't think a struggling one would be to his taste

Really, I suppose I should find something else to occupy my Saturdays then until next seasons Championship fixtures come out. I don't think many people lacking in intelligence can sustain a business venture with revenues in the millions and frankly I think anyone questioning that may just call their own intelligence into question.

Well look at the facts since they bought this football club. Every decision has been the wrong one. Does that indicate intelligence?

(and your last sentence is an oxymoron.)

Venky's have made some bad major decisions - doesn't give you much confidence of getting the next decision right.

You could also say a lot of their decisions defy logic therefore it gives me dread thinking what they might do next.

A top manager would want money to spend - it's impossible to be a success as a manager without it and all the top manager have had it in abundance. The problem is, Venky's don't have the cash - as proved in the last 2 transfer windows. A top manager would also insist on total control, and Venky's have already proved they are not willing to let a proper manager do his job. Venky's can make phone calls to as many top managers as they like - but it would be a huge surprise if any would come to Ewood. I'll throw another hat into the ring - Paul Jewell. Doing a good job at Ipswich and has proved himself in the Premier League. Probably not the big name fans are seeking but likely to be as good as we are going to get.

Yeah I see your point.

what would people think about Neil Lennon or Gus Poyet?

I think Gus Poyet with Ray Wilkins as no2 would be a good team (young fresh ideas with a mix of experience)

Villa wasn't O'Neill's only job. I believe he would have done just as well there on a smaller budget, just my opinion.

I think he'd be interested, he's been out of work for a while and is a highly motivated guy. I'd like to see it happen.

Correct,I remember he did well at Leicester, not sure of his budget then though, I believe he spent money on Heskey, Collymore, Izzet, Savage, the list goes on.

Obviously he ###### it at Celtic.

I just cannot see many of these names being interested at all. Hughes, MoN, Rafa. Just can't see it happening.

Heard a couple of rumours, from a source which is not totally reliable that Ole Gunnar Solksjaer is a done deal. Apparently his second in command (Mark Dempsey) has confirmed it with a few people that at the end of Molde's season Ole will be at Rovers.

I repeat this is not by any means fact, just perhaps food for thought guys

Not a very good list to begin with though. Heskey came through the youth ranks, Collymore was free, Izzet was £800k and Savage £400k.

The bulk of that side were cheap signings from lower league or reserve teams, but players that really blossomed into strong Premier League players. The likes of Neil Lennon, Steve Guppy, Matt Elliot plus the above, coupled with experienced players like Tony Cottee, Steve Walsh, Gerry Taggart etc.

I can't recall a single player that cost a significant fee. He performed miracles there, money didn't come into it at all.

as a matter of balance i think its fair to point out that 2 of MON signings at Villa were sold this summer for a combined £36m giving Villa approx. £15m profit

plus the £24m they got for Milner last year

Not worth the cost of the phone call. He wouldn't be interested.

Plus the exact quote was that he'd like to come back to England but only at a big name club like Liverpool or Spurs.

And the flip side of the point you just mentioned, which is what all big name managers would be thinking, is that why go to a club like Rovers, with not much money to spend and awful owners, and risk damaging your reputation by getting us relegated?

Not sure I believe the OGS link Jimmy.

In any case, I don't want him. What we need us experience.

Sadly we aren't dealing with a normal situation. Something is wrong about the current set-up and Kean being unsackable. It just does not add up.

Things are so far fetched at the moment that I wouldn't be surprised if Fred and the gang showed up and unmasked Belaji and Venky only to find that it's Kirby and Flood in Rao-costumes.

Well have you ever seen them in the same place at the same time?

...and as our esteemed leader has pointed out - it's not all about the points gained in the league

Doesn't indicate a lack of intelligence, just a lack of knowledge in the running of a footy club. Two different matters. In reality I seriously doubt EVERY decision has been wrong, just the big ones. Embellishment will get your point across will it? Oxy-moron, who TF cares?

You can forget Gus Poyet. He is content at Brighton. Pity, cos the football they are playing is pretty good. Though past few results have not been brilliant, I believe he'll turn them around. I wouldn't mind some of their players at Rovers, Noone for one, very good player.

If you look at Jewell's record it seems to yo-yo - after every good job he does he seems to resign and then do a terrible job. Good at Bradford, terrible at Sheff Wed. Good at Wigan, terrible at Derby. Good at Ipswich... His last stint in the premiership he had a worse record than even Kean has (although give Kean time...). So he would be a gamble in my opinion. But I think you are right. That's the level we would be aiming at - names like Ancelotti are only kidding ourselves

For me their biggest mistake, was employing Kean as manager. I know there was the sacking of Sam and JW and Finn leaving, but that was a crucial decision. The current squad is still good enough to stay up easily, but if we cannot utilise their ability to its full potential, then we will struggle. Motivation is a huge factor, and we are certainly lacking that from Kean.

Whoever comes in simply has to bring with them a top quality central midfielder, and striker just to make up for the short fall of the first team capabilities that Kean the plantpot has left us with.

Just signed new 5 year deal at Brighton.

Anyone that would come... put up with Venky's and put up with our disgraceful fans! :tu: GET REAL

None more disgraceful than you. How dare the fans show displeasure at being constantly lied to and being in the relegation zone?

Why can't we just sit back and enjoy it like you?
