Rather he focussed totally on some other club. We don't need him.

Agreed - I was abit gutted to hear he was heading to India with the rest of them! Hope he is kept away from player/ manager recruitment and simply used for commercial purposes.

Excuse my ignorance because I'm a true novice regarding posting etc.

A point I would like to make regarding life after Kean is that unless the mess within the club is sorted from top to bottom, nobody wants to replace him.

Pay 'em an they'll come. It's as simple as that really.

Look at British managers with Premier League experience who are currently out of work:

Mark Hughes, Martin O'Neill, Alan Curbishley, Steve McClaren, Kevin Keegan, Glen Hoddle, Gareth Southgate, Terry Venables, Nigel Worthington.

Others with Premier League experience:

David O'Leary, Gianfranco Zola, Rafael Benitez, Carlo Ancelotti, Stuart Pearce.

Managers in lower divisions worthy of a shot:

Sven Goran Eriksson, SAM ALLARDYCE, Malkay Mackay, Nigel Adkins, Ian Holloway, Karl Robinson, Gus Poyet, Tony Mowbray, Simon Grayson, Brian McDermott.

Even:

Ray Wilkins, Glenn Roeder, Paul Jewell, Sean O'Driscoll, Steve Coppell (that's how desperate things have got)

Quite an extensive list there. Now that's just me sat here for 5 minutes thinking of unemployed managers or those that SHOULD relish the opportunity of stepping up a division to the Premier League. I'm not daft enough to think that Ancelotti/Benitez are realistic, and appreciate that Venky's would need to pull of a 'coup' to lure Hughes/O'Neill. But even without them the situation has become so desperate and dire over the last few months I would gladly take any of the above. I do feel that Hoddle/O'Leary/McClaren/Curbishley could all be surprise packages, as they will have a point to prove. Maybe its just me at breaking point after an unbelievably bad 10 months under Steve Kean. HOW IS THIS MAN STILL IN A JOB WHEN GOOD MANAGERS LIKE THOSE ABOVE ARE UNEMPLOYED?

Hoddle's actually a decent manager. His record with Swindon, Chelsea and Soton was good and he was decent as England manager. Not good at Wolves, though and think he might have been out a bit too long.

Walter Smith or Curbishley would see us staying up, I think. I'd prefer Smith of the two as I think Curbishley is London...

Hasn't Smith just left the Rangers? He's experienced and competent, and while he didn't set the world on fire he did alright at Everton. He should appeal to Venkys as a 'marquee' manager (at least he's won a lot of trophies). And he should appeal to our Scottish contingent, Goodwillie and Hanley. As a bonus, SAF would likely be willing to be a bit more accommodating on loanees, considering they are fast friends and former co-workers who have immense respect for one another.

All in all, Smith has a lot of positives. Definitely better than Kean (though I suspect most posters on this board could do as well as Kean, at this point). Let's hope Venkys know who Walter Smith is and can get his number.

As a disabled fan, I've still not forgotten this:

"You and I have been physically given two hands and two legs and half-decent brains. Some people have not been born like that for a reason. The karma is working from another lifetime. I have nothing to hide about that. It is not only people with disabilities. What you sow, you have to reap."

With the owners making statements about marquee players and being in Europe in 3 or 4 years, I'd say the last thing we need at the moment is a manager [who hasn't actually managed a club for 5 years, btw] who comes out with stuff like this.

Hear, hear.

And if I remember rightly, Smith did it for Rangers with virtually no funds from their previous owner. Imagine what he could achieve with Venky's war chest at his disposal! ;)

Great post there jehrover.

We have no chance of get Ancelotti or Benitez as manager.

The owners would need to spend alot of money to get Hughes or O'Neill to come to rovers for sure. Whether the owners will do this is unknown. Maybe Balaji could put his own money in to fund this but would he tho we just don't know.

I think the realistic list of managers we could get are:- Curbishley, McClaren, Hoddle, O'Leary, Zola.

I think any of those would keep us up. We need experience now at the club.

Oh no no no Walter Smith!!!!

Some on here think Big Sam was dull football !! His football is like watching Ajax compared to Smith!!

But if he managed to keep us away from the Relegation Zone,...........?

And yes, I am using the word "managed" in two different senses.

If Kean stays for any length of time, we will, IMV, be in so much sh1t, financially and otherwise, we will be looking to make a Forest Steve Cotterill type of appointment.

I shudder at the thought but fear it's reality.

It wasn't too dissimilar thinking that led Newcastle to appoint Alan Pardew, and he's done a brilliant job so far.

Not saying I want Cotterill, but I think solid British managers are quickly dismissed by most fans nowadays. Nobody mentions Brendan Rodgers at Swansea. If he was an foreign ex-international with an attractive name, loads of people would want him.

You do have a point LeChuck. Hughes paid the price at Citeh for being from Wrexham instead of Madrid or Milan. Pardoo wasn't doing that well at Charlton or Southampton, but has seemed to have fitted in with the asset strippers at Newcastle. Perhaps a Curbishley type of manager would suit our situation. As long as it isn't Dowie, Reid, Boothroyd, JFK or Mickey Adams though!
