[Archived] Poem or words to end March

Recommended Posts

I have started a new thread because I would like someone with nice creative writing, (Not one of my strong points) To write a poem or some words for the march on Saturday.

The reason for this is at the end of the March some flowers will be getting placed at the statue of our Biggest Fan Jack Walker who I'm sure would share our frustrations. The poem/passage will be read out at the statue followed by a minutes silence. Then the fans can sing some positive songs and make their way onto the ground or off for a burger of whatever they do for their pre match ritual.

These passages can be voted by the plus n minus buttons and the one with the most is the one that will be used.

If the writer is not attending the march then I would like a volunteer to read this, or if the writer is attending to read it to the fans.

I would also like if possible someone who is bringing their children to get their children to be the one's who lay the flowers at the statue, as these are our next generation of fans.

If anyone wants to help with stewarding ect on Saturday please Pm me or Philip,

Thank you

How about the poem thats written at Jack's statue? I think it is this one

"Hope this helps regards

Death is nothing at all

I have only slipped away into the next room

I am I and you are you

Whatever we were to each other

That we are still

Call me by my old familiar name

Speak to me in the easy way you always used

Put no difference into your tone

Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow

Laugh as we always laughed

At the little jokes we always enjoyed together

Play, smile, think of me, pray for me

Let my name be ever the household word that it always was

Let it be spoken without effort

Without the ghost of a shadow in it

Life means all that it ever meant

It is the same as it ever was

There is absolute unbroken continuity

What is death but a negligible accident?

Why should I be out of mind

Because I am out of sight?

I am waiting for you for an interval

Somewhere very near

Just around the corner

All is well.

Nothing is past; nothing is lost

One brief moment and all will be as it was before

How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!"

or even the poem from the Rovers v Norwich programme (thanks to mark1887 post in the Jack Walker Anniversary thread)

"I have never written a poem before, I don’t see any point in rhyme

it never appeals to us working class, it’s just a waste of time.

Well now its abit different, I need to tell you how I feel

and in some small way pay tribute to the Blackburn man of steel.

Its vital not to miss the point, footballs not just a bit of fun,

its pride and passion, skill and strength all rolled into one.

It’s not about Man Utd, Chelsea or some foreign fancy Dan,

Its Blackburn, Preston, Burnley, that’s where it all began.

Where what you see is what you get, but don’t show how you feel

but I'm making my exception for the Blackburn Man of Steel.

I really need to thank him for the pride he gave us back

just for a while we were the best, Thanks to Uncle Jack!

Few people have the vision to make a dream come true

The beauty of Jack Walker’s was - We got an invite to

Some saw him as a rich old man who bought a winning team

But for me they miss the point, he gave us all our dream!!

I think its maybe true to say it could not last forever

But then again Im sure, its better once than never!

And even if those winning ways never do come back

they can’t take away our memories, Thanks to Uncle Jack!!

Hendry, Sutton, Batty, Shearer - the names run off the tongue

But 'THERE'S ONLY ONE JACK WALKER' is still the Rovers song

So forget the players agents and smart Armani Suits

Raise a glass to Uncle Jack, A man who knew his roots"

At the end of both we could then break into the "one Jack Walker" chant

This world of football has gone crazy..

People passionate their team is not lazy..

Lovers attending to admire the game,

The hardcore not wanting to be lame..

FOR SUCCESS WILL GRANT US GLORY AND FAME..

Our moto has us believing in beautiful craft,

Also to work and make sure we graft..

We join together beauty and toil,

For lovers our emblem is very royal,,

THAT IS THEN RUN ALONG THE BEAUTIFUL SOIL..

We have documented books of history,

Claiming cups and leagues in victory..

In every century we have succeeded,

Wining trophies and admirers have proceeded..

SHINING TROPHIES FOR THOSE WHO THOUGHT WE WERE DELUDED..

With those of you who care to chant,

And within bosoms also have a rant..

Don't let lye inside within your heart,

Or any of your innermost anatomies part..

LET YOUR EMOTIONS LOOSE BEFORE WE START!!

We are bleeding white and blue

Through our eyes being in love with you..

We came, we conquered and we stood tall,

In hard times we can not allow you to fall..

WHY?

BECAUSE AT EWOOD THE REAL ROVERS PLAY FOOTBALL!!

WILL EXTEND LATER WITH A FEW MORE LINES..

Sorry oz but that's pretty weak in my honest opinion.

I agree with Dazmaz either the original one from the programme or if there's on one the statue then that's ideal.

Edit: I do respect anyone making an effort to make a change though

You SAD SAD SAD people!

I was against the protest anyway but to be involving Jack Walker, a minutes silence small children and poems within all this seems to be disrespectful and in all honesty quite ridiculous! You people must be really desperate for Steve Kean to be sacked to be using what some may call 'emotional blackmail' to get your point across. The club is already somewhat of a laughing stock as it is and you will only add to that!

To be protesting before a crucial game when it could spill over into the ground and affect the players is moronic anyway but to then involve the memory of Jack Walker when its not even the anniversary of his passing to get your point across? I cannot actually put into words how mad this makes me feel!

GET BEHIND YOUR TEAM INSTEAD OF PUTTING ALL THIS EFFORT INTO A TOTALLY COUNTER PRODUCTIVE PROTEST!!

Please no poem, statement yes but a poem is abit wet and somethng the scoucers would do.We need to look strong and firm not like victims.

Agree with this. A simple statement re-iterating the point of the march (to remove Kean and appoint an experienced manager) would be much better. Paying tribute to Uncle Jack will probably reflect on the owners not the manager.

Involving Jack would stenghen the point we are for the club but against Kean. None of us wants to see the team lose.... Again, amd again and again, and the point of the march is to show we want kean out. Im sure that 99% of us will be behind the team 100% during the match (always get the odd idiot that drinks too much)

Obviously you have your opinion, as I have mine but I can assure you that come kick off on Saturday I will be roaring the team on and that the march will be productive

You are overstepping the mark here. Do your march, sing your songs. But don't you dare bring the Jack Walker statue into play, or claim to represent his viewpoint. His viewpoint was for BRFC to pay for itself, specified long before the luncay of todays Premier League.

Take your protest to the Directors Entrance and recite all the poems you fancy, but do not come to the Memorial area.

As soon as i saw this thread earlier, i cringed. I was for the protest before, but i will not be partaking anymore, i have spoken to many others who feel the same way too. Keeping away from Jack's statue was paramount after the ridiculous antics of april (although i appreciate this intends to differ).

This protest is about Steve Kean and Kean alone, not the owners, or the previous owner. Solely about Steve Kean and the future of the club, not the past.

It has now become a tad ridiculous and over the top in my eyes and i can't support this no longer i'm afraid

I have to agree with this.

I want to attend the march but will not do so if it ends at Jack's statue.

This is not set in stone, and if people do not wish this to happen it can be easily removed from the march, after all this is everyone's march who wishes to attend and its up to those attending to decide how this march should pan out. I have had a few dialogues with people away from the forum and some wanted this to happen and some don't. Me personally don't mind either way, but after reading through the post on this thread it appears more would not like this to happen, if that is the case, then we don't do it.

My only role in this is helping organise it, to ensure its conducted peacefully, policed safely and results in the message of Steve Kean out going back to the owners.

Everyone is open to suggestions, and providing its been cleared by the club which all what has been proposed has, then it can or can't happen. Its upto all attendee's to decide how they want to march and what the message is they want the March to produce.

On this note, if one of the moderators would like to close this thread thats fine as this will now be removed from the March,

I'm sorry if this offended anyone, I just proposed it as it was mentioned to me several times.

If anyone would like to get more active in the organisation of the march please PM me as all help will be greatly appreciated

No offence Glen, the area around Jacks statue is conjested enough around match days with people going to the shop, the ticket office and the blues bar, an additional 1000 !! marchers would be kaos.

Stick to the march, forget the poem and flowers and finish the march with a brief statement for the marchers to get into the ground and get behind the team.
