I think robbo and if samba is given it back it will be a disgrace,i for for one dont want someone who pleaded and shamelessy pimped himself to arsenal in the summer being captain. Hughesy
Scott Dann Samba has messed about too much and could still easily leave in Jan or next summer so we need stability. Robbo - whilst a great pro, I dont agree with having keeper as captain.

Steve Kean's Hypnotoad
Don't think it matters, in the modern game captains don't really do anything. These days they seem to be picked as a symbolic gesture to promote loyalty or discipline or just encourage players to have a good game. For example is Joey Barton, the thuggish horrible psychopath, the kind of person you immediately make captain upon arrival at a club? Not really, Warnock did it because he figured it'd make Barton less likely to get himself sent off. Similarly Rovers have been doing it with Samba for over a year to keep his mind on the job amid transfer speculation. He's easily our best player and was the only defender who looked like he could actually defend in the first half against Fulham, so I'd say its working. Take the captaincy off him and he could really start to sulk. Obviously in an ideal world you wouldn't pander to players egos, but the difference between a top-notch Samba and a half-assed Samba is absolutely huge for Rovers. Despite all the hype over Dann's arrival, Samba is by far the better defender and absolutely crucial Rovers.
Seggie
I don't think anyone can use the search system. I think the captain issue will be resolved with Samba being reinstated, Kean said so himself that he wanted to sit down with Samba regarding it. The thing with the captains role is that it should goto one of the natural leaders on the pitch not chopped and changed to suit public opinion, it's who the other players look to in a time of need and Samba is that man along with Nelsen who doesn't play every week and Salgado who is in a role that needs his utmost concentration at all times and again like Nelsen I think we will see less and less of him. Remember the world cup and John Terry being stripped of the captaincy due to public opinion, this was a catalyst to England's poor showing at the world cup. As much as a dislikable person Terry is he is looked to by the other players on the pitch for leadership and that is what we need now and tbh Samba is probably better than anyone in that team for doing that. Backroom DE. Posted September 16, 2011 Backroom Share Posted September 16, 2011 I started a thread a few months ago on who should be captain(is it just my search button thats stopped working?) and it still seems to be not sorted. who would/should be captain? Totally agree Abs, no way Samba should be given the armband back. He can be a natural leader on the pitch without having the armband. A captain should be a bloke in the team 100% committed to the cause (or at least as much as a footballer these days can be) and Samba ain't that man. He's wanted away for over 18 months and has had a few 'phantom injuries' since Kean took charge which suggests to me his head isn't fully in the game. Samba will be looking to the Jan transfer window and will be asking to leave again. For me the captain should be Robbo (very vocal, senior, bags of experience), Nelsen (if he plays), Salgado (a liability perhaps but 100% committed), Dann (might cause issues of players accusing Kean of favourtism though based on their history?) or Dunny (my least fav choice as he struggles with fitness and doesn't strike me as a natural leader, but a Blackburn-lad through and through and loves the club). I think we have enough options available to avoid giving Samba a captaincy back he doesn't really deserve.
Backroom Tom Posted September 16, 2011 Backroom Share Posted September 16, 2011 Dann will be captain eventually I think but not yet, Robinson for me, he may be at the back but can organise from there as he see's the whole pitch and has got a good yell on him. Lathund
Ryan Nelsen won't play every game, but whenever he is on the pitch he should be the captain IMO.

Stuart
Quiz time: "Despite this, [the manager] constantly backed [the player] to sign a contract extension repeatedly, stating: "Hopefully he will be signing for us. He's still got 18 months of his contract to run and we'll be having talks with him. He's never said he wants to leave. He's got the option but we still think we've got the best chance of keeping him." Anyone guess which manager said this about which player?
Bobby G
It was surprising that Dunn was captain last week when Samba was playing. Nothing had been said by the club about a change in captaincy and Samba was not vocal at all about leaving during the summer, so its a bit weird.
