Miker Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Thought I'd start a new topic about our next up-and-coming superstar! I thought he was fantastic at RB after Salgado was subbed off and he was moved in there. He was great on the ball, getting up field and distributing the ball well and I distinctly remember a number of superb interceptions by him off the ball. Long story short, really pleased by his performance last night at RB against one of the bigger teams in the league. He seemed calmed and assured in everything he did, and he continues in that way then I don't see why he can't develop into a quality RB in the future, or at least Salgado's replacement. What do you guys think?

Darwen Rover Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Isn't he a CMer?? And was only put at RB as we had no alternative
Miker Posted September 18, 2011 Author Posted September 18, 2011 Isn't he a CMer?? And was only put at RB as we had no alternative Yes, but I think he actually showed himself to be quality at RB and has been pretty anonymous in his cameos as a CM. Just my opinion though. He's still young, so there's always time for him to be coached into a different position.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 He tweeted me last night saying that his family and friends were there to watch him. Well done to the lad, he's progressed fantastically in the last year what with captaining England U20's in the World Cup and being part of the first team squad.
Muddboy Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Thought he did a very decent job and would have no problem playing him there again. I thought he had a background as a right back anyhow before being shunted into CM?
T4E Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Kean mentioned him as a RB last week (think it was in Kamy's interview), so him playing there was definitely not an on the spot square peg type decision. I'd like to see him there again at St James'.
47er Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Like Olsson, we looked better when Jason came on. Will they start next game-------who knows?
RoyRover Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 I thought that he looked lost when playing in midfield and improved a lot when moved to right back. He got caught out by a Song pass, which allowed Arshavin to run at goal and he backed off Arshavin too much in the box which allowed him to get a shot away. But apart from that he looked good there. He got forward to win the free kick that lead to Song's own goal and brought more pace to the position. The more he plays there the better he'll get at it.
Tony Diamond Inc Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Like Olsson, we looked better when Jason came on. Will they start next game-------who knows? Lowe started against Arse.
Tony Diamond Inc Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 At right-back? Sorry, misunderstood the 'when Jason came on' bit. My error.
dingles staying down 4ever Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 There was an alternative. Dann could have gone to RB, Givet to CB, Olsson at LB. Lowe has played RB before and played well there. How he'll play against someone with real pace might be a worry though!

dingles staying down 4ever Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Can't be any slower than Salgado! True...but Salgado with his experience can read a game. But it does appear his legs have gone. I just worry that with little cover from Rovers wings, a couple of skinnings from a quick winger may destroy a young player's confidence and career before it has started.
bennyboyt11 Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Although Arshavin is no Walcott, he's not a slow player by any means and Jason did pretty well.
dazmaz Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 I read a stat that young Jason broke down 13 of arsenals attacks and had a 89% pass completion. pretty darn good imo
Neil Weaver Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 He tweeted me last night saying that his family and friends were there to watch him. Yep, think they were not far from me in the JWL judging by all the 'Well done Jason' shouts I heard!
braddock Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 My first impressions of him were that he was too light weight. He has proved me wrong. Happy the lad put in such a performance in front of his family and friends.

67splitscreen Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 I read a stat that young Jason broke down 13 of arsenals attacks and had a 89% pass completion. pretty darn good imo Passes 28 completed 25 Tackles 5 won 4 Interceptions 4 Clearances 2 Blocks 4 They are the sort of stats that we came to expect from PJ, for someone with such little top level experience, he deserves a run in the team.
Andy Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 That's pretty outstanding for a young lad making his full debut - well done, Jason
Miker Posted September 18, 2011 Author Posted September 18, 2011 He has to start at RB for me next game. The stats seem to back up what I thought was an excellent performance. Given how poor Salgado's been this season, it has to be a no brainer.
philipl Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Very very encouraging performances from Jason. Tremendously exciting prospect by the look of things.
Amo Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 I believe he was another one dismissed by the all-knowing JAL.
