No need to feel so defensively about it, the march served a purpose and like Paul said it was great to see Rovers fans doing something for a change, the owners and Kean were so relieved to get a result you could almost feel the tension from them. People have said it was pathetic so early in the season but I disagree, regardless of how many turned up it showed the owners there are more people to consider when making decisions about Rovers however the Raos clearly back there man and if we had lost 10 -0 I still dont think he would have been sacked, he has clearly a very good relationship with them. Massive Kudos to Glen though, a clear man of action and your efforts did'nt go unnoticed.
Rover_Shaun Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Steve Kean thinks the protest was 1% of what was in the ground and 99% of us are happy - BBC MOTD
roverandout Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 ok you're , beerwins, just dont like people dissing me and others, who got up early, in bad weather, to take part in something they believe in, i walked miles to get to the havelock, got lost on the way mind , well done glen, you did us proud today and the bearded chap.
Backroom Tom Posted September 17, 2011 Backroom Posted September 17, 2011 ok you're , beerwins, just dont like people dissing me and others, who got up early, in bad weather, to take part in something they believe in, i walked miles to get to the havelock, got lost on the way mind , well done glen, you did us proud today and the bearded chap. See I thought Givet was poor first half but did well when Olsson came on. Ok I'll stop now. By the way did anyone notice the new burger van outside Aqueduct? They should have had it at Havelock early doors to maximise trade and feed the crowds. At least SSN showed Glen for a decent amount of time, the Northwest tonight stuff was a bit poor they only had one line of his aired.
Backroom Tom Posted September 17, 2011 Backroom Posted September 17, 2011 I believe (I wasn't there) the bearded organiser was OZTHEMAN (his username on here and Twitter and maybe elsewhere) he also has to be credited for making a lot of the A4 flyers, whether you agree with the wording on some of them or not he has to be praised for doing that. Glen and Usman have been the public face of it but no doubt a lot of hard work has gone in behind the scenes by others as well so well done everyone, now rest.
roverandout Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 also great to see the minutes silence observed well too.
BPF Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Been a long week, yes it was 606, My apologies I couldn't believe it today Glen when you were all over the USA ESPN. Get some well deserved sleep, you've earned it.
47er Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 If I was Steve Kean I'd be feeling very smug right now. Don't worry---he is.
roverandout Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 kean has no right to feel smug, one win doesnt make a season, he can feel smug if we are playing well after 10 games, this win doesnt undo 9 months or so of absolute pap.
47er Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 I'm sorry but Glen's TV appearances and his 606 appearance have almost turned me against the Kean Out brigade. Unimpressive to say the least. To backtrack and start saying the protest was about "lack of communication by Venkys" flies in the face of the pledge that it was a single issue demo, simply aimed at getting rid of the manager. The fact is that a couple of hundred doubtless well-intentioned berks made complete tits of themselves. To do it before a match was stupidity. After a defeat, fair enough, but you were always likely to have egg on your faces. No wonder Jason Roberts and his mate have such an easy ride with the degree of inarticulacy and lack of ability to engage in a meaningful debate among our self-appointed spokespeople. Disgraceful post from someone I've never heard of. It'll come round again, imo Kean is incapable of getting this sort of result on a regular basis.
roverandout Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 i agree 47er, this is probably a one off against a team in turmoil, wait till we play next week against newcastle before people start patting kean on the back.
roverzee Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Well guys Thank you everyone who turned up, the Police hampered things a little by trying to speed the March up from set off until the end, but the Chief Police co-ordinator of March who oversee's this type of thing all the time said "There was about 700 who marched, Well behaved and good spirited" I echoe this, I met some wonderful supporters today who walked hand with toghetherness, It was not CHAVS as one Venkys plant has posted, but was filled with people from all backgrounds, races, nationalities and ages. I assume the media exposure has gone to your head, because you've made a lot of things up. The police didn't hamper anything - you have stated all week how great the Police have been to set it all up, so don't start blaming them now because only 200 people showed up (including parents with kids). That is pathetic given the exposure. You were on BBC North West, ITV, Sky, Radio 5, Talk Sport, in the Mirror, Sun, Mail, even the posh papers! But 200 people started from the Havelock. People can claim there were 500 more when you all got to Ewood - but they walk that way for every match!! Radio 5 reported it as a "small protest" which "turned personal" against the manager, so you even failed to control the output to national media. If you really want to prove the hatred towards Steve Kean, then do it on Tuesday. 20 thousand Rovers fans today supported the manager and the players. On Tuesday there won't even be 10 thousand. Set the MARCH up. Havelock, Tuesday, 6.30pm. Let's see how many REAL Rovers fans want to protest.
roverzee Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Well done to everybody who took part today. Venky's are well and truly on notice that any slippage in results and we will want Kean fired. Are you confused? "Well done to everybody who took part today" sounds like praise for the players and the manager. Then "slippage in results"? What do you want? Do you want Layton Oriont and Newcastle to beat us?
malk Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 For all those knocking Glen & co, just WTF have you done since our club started to slide abysmally ? Just going to the games that I can (the London ones probably this year) and generally supporting the club. Pretty much what I'll do regardless. Shocking I know.
Blue n White Rover Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 FFS - whether you agree with the protest or not, Glen and his organisers have shown more initiative and decisiveness in a week than the, IMO, bungling, incompetent Raos have shown in 9 months. I am certain that in the fullness of time when the warts and all emerge, Kean will be seen for the despicable bloke that I believe he is. For all those knocking Glen & co, just WTF have you done since our club started to slide abysmally ? As I said in another thread earlier, gates for our 3 PL home matches so far this season are a massive 6,000+ (9%) down on last season. Tie that in with sponsorship difficulties, available corporate facilities, appalling results and a weak management structure and you realise just how bad things are despite today's welcome result. What have we done? We've supported the manager and the team just like the owners have asked us to. Not gone against the manager after 4 games in to the new season and protesting like idiots and making us the laughing stock of the PL.
Miker Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 glen, all I'll say is you, and everyone else involved, did a fantastic job organising this march and you should be proud for it. I don't know if you actually ended up doing the minute's silence and laying flowers at the statue of Jack Walker, but if you did then I think that was an amazing gesture and rather than embarrassing the club, you showed how much love and pride the fans of Blackburn have for their club. The important thing is people took notice. The owners, the manager, the players, the media - they all know how this large group of fans feel thanks to your efforts and it has undoubtedly had an effect on them. They HAVE to think about the consequences of their failures and make sure they don't happen and that is vital to the success of the club. I would not be surprised if the protest before the game spurred the players on to a better, more driven performance and ultimately a win against Arsenal. So thank you and well done for all your efforts, and everyone else that gave their time to attend and take part in the protest. What have we done? We've supported the manager and the team just like the owners have asked us to. Not gone against the manager after 4 games in to the new season and protesting like idiots and making us the laughing stock of the PL. This is absolute rubbish. All the people that took part in the protest, went to the stadium and cheered the team on like everyone else. All they did was make our concerns heard, they never stopped supporting the club just because of their hatred for Venky's or Kean. To call them idiots and a laughing stock is completely uncalled for.
roverandout Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 its alright people knocking the protesters, but i was up early today, having worked 50 hours this week, i didnt have to but i did it anyway because i went take part in something i believe in AND i supported the lads for 90 minutes as well, why dont you knockers go and crawl back under the stone you came from, i bet most of the nay-sayers on here dont even go to the games.
tomphil Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 its alright people knocking the protesters, but i was up early today, having worked 50 hours this week, i didnt have to but i did it anyway because i went take part in something i believe in AND i supported the lads for 90 minutes as well, why dont you knockers go and crawl back under the stone you came from, i bet most of the nay-sayers on here dont even go to the games. Your all shouting the odds off here but within 3 games time i think there will be a different shout , back to KEAN OUT. Watch this space!
deryck guyler's spoon Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 its alright people knocking the protesters, but i was up early today, having worked 50 hours this week, i didnt have to but i did it anyway because i went take part in something i believe in AND i supported the lads for 90 minutes as well, why dont you knockers go and crawl back under the stone you came from, i bet most of the nay-sayers on here dont even go to the games.
roverandout Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 yes it might be, if we start losing again, like i have said many times, one swallow doesnt make a summer, so we should be wary of getting too carried away. deryck, why do you knock people who dont share with your kean love-in, what have you contributed to the club?
waggy Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 can glenn organise a march before the next home game, worked wonders with the team
American Rover12 Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Daunting amount of pages behind on this topic so haven't read the last 7 pages. Apologies if any of these points have been stated. Surprised to see how much of the March/cause was covered here in the states during the ESPN2 pregame. All the images and the speakers came across very well and everything looked very orderly. Glen, you came across very well and passionate to America, so congrats. Thought Macca and Darke were respectful in reporting the issues and though I disagreed with Maaca's assessment, my blue and white tinted ears were ready for some condescension that never came. Haven't read any reports (or even all the threads on the board) so I am assuming all went well on the day, congrats marchers.
