Petrovic has been awful so far. Dann has been very average. He's no better than Givet or Nelsen IMO.

Yakubu had that one great game against Arsenal, haven't heard much from him since.

Formica and Rochina look like good players, but they're still inexperienced and they can't do a job for the team in the same way Olsson or Hoilett can.

Complete bonkers we're not starting with Vukcevic, who is possibly Kean's best signing.

The squad is completely imbalanced. I don't know what a new manager could do with this squad, but surely he can't do worse than Kean.

This has to be the funniest and most ironic thread on here.

Steve Kean's signings are so exciting, he plays a team full of players signed under Sam Allardyce.

Kean has no faith in his own signings so why on earth should we?

Dann is the honourable exception but even he jumps for the ball like he's had his ankles fused. Dishonourable mention for Petrovic who is not good enough for the Premier League.

I'm not surprised by Goodwillie or Petrovic's start it was always going to be difficult for them over here.

But Vucevic (sp) has been playing champions league for god knows how long and helped make England look their trueselves and yet isn't good enough to play for the worst team in the league at this moment.

Yesterdays team selection was all about playing players he could 'trust' that were low risk to us not losing the game.

To be fair Hoilett, Bentley and Olsson all looked no great shakes after three games at the club.

Bentley and Hoilett took time to get some consistency and discipline to their play, but they always had the talent.

Some can see these things, some can't.

"I've never seen Hoilett beat a man for pace"

Some talent eh, Den?

You still telling porkies about that one?

Quick feet, pace over short distances, great technical ability, has a real chance of making it if he works hard are my first comments about Junior Topman. After the wigan away game, you picked up on a genuine question of whether he could beat a player for out and out pace over a longer distance. He didn't do it at that game, but it's difficult to discuss it with someone who doesn't actually watch him, either home or away.

Ha!

Too true. Den has himself down as an insightful sage of football. Sadly he is a mere mortal like all of us.

I don't have myself down as anything JBN. I give my views early on about players. You'll have to judge whether they're right or not.

Dann is not in the same league as Nelsen was ,when we first signed him ...Doubt he is better than him now , if he was fit for any length of time .

Here's your exact post, Den.

You're talking about a vital part of his game, yet supposedly, you knew all along that he was something special? Right.

Seriously. I wouldn't persist on bringing this up if you weren't so condescending to others.

I think everyone identified the weak areas pre-season.

right back

left back

centre mid

striker.

He signed 2 unheard of fullbacks ribeiro, anderson. neither will see the first team

for midfield we got petrovic, not impressed so far but highlty rated - may see the best of him next year.

up front Goodwillie and yak. neither of whom are the target man striker we need.

We should have moved heaven and earth to get J Jones back or Barton.

For a team that is apparently trying to pass the ball around, why do the opposition always seem to have 60% posession?

We also need a manager that can organise a team to defend.

Yes all true, but the players need time on the pitch, there is no point playing them 1 week, then omitting them it does nothing for confidence. All it shows is a manager with either no confidence or dare I say know how! The quicker he is gone the better.

With hindsight, we should have put a big chunk of the Jones cash in a bid for Sturridge. I'm sure £12m or so would have tested Chelsea's resolve at end of last season. He ticks all the boxes and would probably increase in value over a couple of seasons.

IMV, other than JJ on loan, Kean hasn't made a signing who has made any sort of ongoing impact. Again, IMV, his record in the transfer market stinks for many reasons.

My views:

JJ : took a while to find his feet but he and Phil Jones instrumental from saving Kean's bacon last season

RSC : expensive disaster

Formica (Kean's Batistuta) : at best average - lacks pace and disappears for long periods. £3.5m plus substantial agent fees - stinks

Rochina : could be one of those infuriating bit part players, has skill but will never progress. Spanish clubs weren't queueing for him. £400k + £1.6m agent fees, stinks again.

Myles Anderson (Kean's Chris Smalling) : nothing needs to be said. I maintain this guy would not get a game in the BSB

Goodwillie (Kean's Rooney) : had to fight off interest from Rangers & Blackpool ! Overweight with no pace. Get him fit and maybe a useful bench player.

Ribeiro (Kean's Denis Irwin) : three year deal for this guy who should be named 'Lord Lucan'. If your money, you'd have to ask Kean wtf has gone on here.

Dann : average and not convincing - don't know howe much we've paid but anything >£3m then we've been done

Yak : rumoured that Kean didn't even want him. Think Savage might have got this one right - "he'll score in his first match and he'll then disappear"

Petro (Kean "he has it all") : many supporters prefer Keith Andrews - enough said !

So, again IMO, we would not get our money back on any of Kean's signings and I believe he's signed a crock of sh1te.

I beg anyone to differ with this.

den, I think you might be right re:Hoilett... I'll have to watch him again next game. When I think about it I can say that he has brilliant ball control and great at dribbling past players (sometimes it seems like the ball is glued to his feet), but I can't really say how quick he is with any degree of certainty. I don't think he's as fast as Olsson anyway.

IMO Hoillett and Olson are two of our mosr effevtive players, if we could get either Formica or Rochina to slot in behind a decent forward we could be quite a decent attacking force. The trouble is, both Olson and Hoillett have more than a wary eay on the non existant full back behind them!

Impossible to argue with any of the above !

agreed very good post.

because its the truth.

Kean's "dream" is all lovely, but not at the expense of results.

Because Kean decided not to buy proven quality these players that are either no good or not ready have been lumped into a team in a league they are not ready for.

We should have got a solid experienced team together and then introduce one or two young players slowly.

Kean is doing too much an once and making an embarrassment of the new players.
