[Archived] Protest at the City match.

Seems like the turning our backs idea isn't so popular either. Can't fault me for trying!

I've been singing and hearing other fans sing anti Kean chants for a long time now and it hasn't done very much imo, but I'm up for giving it another shot. Hopefully Venky's are warming to the idea that he should be replaced. After giving him a decent amount of cash to spend on new players last month though, I still think it's unlikely.

Especially when I read stuff like this, I just think their minds are on other things:

http://www.football365.com/blackburn-rovers/7204351/Rovers-schedule-trip-to-India

I think they came to the Arsenal game, saw us win and thought "No problems here" Then it's back home to India for the next few months, not worried about Rovers.

I just feel that the visual statement of the backs turning would provide a massive statement that would be widely reported. It's a bit different to the usual protests of chants and things. It's a striking collective action.

Whether they watch the games or not, people have been chanting for a long long time, the team has been playing sh*t for a long long time and it has done nothing.

If matthew and Neal are so all fired up why don't you just get on and organise it instead of talking about it?

The reality is simple. Against Arsenal the crowd was close to turning on Kean when we got our first equaliser. If we are getting stuffed by City - don't forget at this point Arsenal were waltzing through our midfield and defence - there will be a protest in the ground and very vocal. No doubt about it.

These things - in the ground - are spontaneous, unless you're going to organise something, which doesn't seem likely.

Paul, what on earth do you think we're trying to do? You can't organise something without trying to get other fans' backing. It has to be a collective action.

The idea - After the first 5 minutes in the Man City match on Saturday, we all turn our backs on the Kean. We turn to face away from the pitch for 30-60 seconds.

The press cameras go wild. They're snap happy at the story. The pictures are in every Sunday paper. People are talking about it. Venky's will obviously end up seeing the images. It will make a bold statement.

Thoughts?

COYB,

Matt

ERR but is this not how Man City celebrate scoring goals?

Personally I think its too soon for another protest the next protest should be at the 23rd of October at the Spurs game.

Yes, I've already commented on that in the other Protest thread. It was part of the reason why I think it will work:

"But that's actually why I think it will work really well - because the action will relate to both teams.

From working in journalism, I'm pretty sure the papers will run with photos and a caption along the lines of:

"Doing the Poznan? Blackburn Rovers fans object to Steve Kean's management by turning their backs on him.""

Being vocal in the ground is the best and only real way to do it, its been proven time and again down the years. Look at it at newcastle on saturday chants of 'you dont know what your doin' came down from the thousand or so rovers fans up in the 3rd tier and it was reported in several newspapers the next day so the message will hit home. Forget all this turning your back nonsense, if things go bad then give it to him both barrells as there's no hiding place on that touchline.

If its done along with Chants and placards then maybe it will work. Otherwise people think what are those Muppets up to.

You might want to have a word with Glen Mullan........................

Chanting 'love Rovers hate Steve Kean'???

the best action is during the game, a rendition of "stand up if you want Kean sacked" if everybody who wants him sacked can muster the energy to stand up for this one in will be more than the "one percent", then we will clearly see who is in the minority.

Exactly.

All these gimmicks will not get you anywhere. The Arsenal protest even, as well organised as it was, was easily deflected by a canny operator like Kean.

Loud and sustained chanting is the ONLY way for me.

remember the "shoes off" chant against Burnley? Now that would get onto the cameras and into the press

Thats the most stupid thing ive heard in years. Mate, are you for real?

Are you for real? I don't see you coming up with any suggestions. Just negativity. You're not talking to someone who's a prick or an idiot, you're talking to a fellow fan who cares about the club and is trying to come up with ideas for how to ensure the manager is replaced. Because we all know he needs to go.

Would it actually be that hard to have a couple of people outside each stand who tell other fans the idea for protest.

I don't think so.

We'll see how the chants go. Hopefully they'll have an effect.

you cannot even begin to plan a protest where people are standing up facing the back of the stands.

suppose the people who back kean, or the people who don't believe in protest begin to complain and get angry that 40 people are stood infront of them blocking their view?

it is not sensible to plan something which in my opinion will just assist in giving the anti protesters a chance to fight back against the protesters. cause friction in the stands and encourage the stewards and police to have to pile into stands to calm things down.

it would be an epic fail

The facing the back thing is just plain stupid in my opinion.

I for one certainly wouldn't do it nor would most of the people around me I'd wager.

No matter how you spin it it is 'turning your back on the team' and I wouldn't do that.

This (The staying silent for 10 minutes part) is a very noticable protest, but like in that game requires the two sets of fans to cooperate so won't happen.

(Oh and I don't think it needs to be said that I don't support the usage of flares to intentionally halt the game at the start of the second half. Nor do I support the motives behind these protests. Or even like the clubs involved. I just thought the silence is an effective way to do it)

have 2 people on each turnstile accosting fans coming into the ground?? I tip my hat to your obvious enthusiasm, but my friend, you are deluded.

Posted this in the newcastle thread about the staying behind after the final whistle idea.

I agree with the sentiment and if I could be there I would be, protesting against the fool.

But, I think that is a terrible idea.

However many people that do stay, even if there are a couple of thousand, will look a lot smaller and then insignificant, in comparison to the 25 odd thousand empty seats in the ground. It will be made worse as there will be pockets of protesters in each stand surrounded by big banks of empty seats.

Best idea so far as regards saturday. Im sure plenty will be on their feet in the bbe lower if their angry enough then there be no doubts in anyone's mind that the fans are a turnin
