Iceman Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 I'm looking to run my desktop pc into my tv, however my pc is very basic at the back with no VGA or any other ports besides 4 USB ones. My tv has 3 hdmi ports as well as RCA, but my question is this, can I get some sort of adapter or converter from USB to hdmi or RCA? Thanks

dazmaz Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 You can get rca to hdmi, but not usb to hdmi that I know of. Best option us to get a vga to rca adapter, then to connect to tv switch with the monitor (thats what I used to do) Failing that, if you have a console, you could set up a local area network (depending on use)
LeChuck Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 I think we should give you your own Technology section Iceman! How do you connect you Desktop PC to a monitor? There must be more connections than 4 USB...surely? Could you give us any more details on the PC (and perhaps model of TV).
Iceman Posted October 13, 2011 Author Posted October 13, 2011 i have the Packard Bell One Two M Touch PC... My Tv is a local made tv, but has 3 HDMI ports and RCA ports.
LeChuck Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 Oh ok, didn't realise it was a touchscreen. Don't think you will be able to...the sheer nature of touchscreen means that you lose your input method of you use a different screen. I guess it would accept a mouse in the USB port, but you have no way of outputting to a TV. I think the lesson there is to buy something that has practical use and isn't just a gimmick. Can't see why anyone would want a touchscreen device that isn't portable to be honest. Surely a conventional desktop would suit your needs better?

It was down from 800 pounds to around 300 pounds.
LeChuck Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 £300 will still get you a very good PC, more powerful than that one is even taking into account the reduction in price. Might be worth seeing what they go for on eBay, I reckon you get something better (and that more suits your need) without being out of pocket.
Iceman Posted October 13, 2011 Author Posted October 13, 2011 I have not used the touch screen to be honest. I was more happy with it having 4gb ram, terrabyte hard drive, dual core etc. I'm not really an expert on pc's so I assumed it was a good deal. I'm more knowledgeable around cellphones, but not really too clued up around computers.
LeChuck Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 4gb ram is about £15, a terrabyte hard drive £30-£40, dual core Pentium £30-£40. You pay a premium because it's a touchscreen computer. I imagine it will have onboard graphics as well. For comparison, I just bought my dad a new computer that cost £207 (through eBuyer's eBay page); Pentium dual core 3.2 ghz, 4gb DDR3, XFX Radeon 5670 DDR5 graphics card, 1 terrabyte HD. Obviously you'd need a monitor but they're really cheap now. If you're not using the touchscreen then you're not really getting value from the machine since that's what the bulk of the money goes on. I'd really suggest looking into selling it and getting a more powerful machine for the same money if you're finding it limits what you want to do. If it was a genuine price of £800 and not an inflated RRP then you could probably sell that for more than £300.
Biddy Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 Aye, but there's probably not the same ebay market in South Africa.
